The Red-Green Alliance

Caroline Glick points out that there is a direct line between the Obama administrations support for the disarming of Israel’s nuclear deterrence, and the Gaza flotilla incident the other day. She also claims  that the aims of the Red (Communist/Socialist), and Green  (Islamic) alliance is no less then the extermination of the Jewish people of Israel and probably throughout the world.

These words are being written before the dust has settled on Monday morning’s naval commando raid on the Gaza-bound Turkish flotilla of terror supporters. The raid’s full range of operational failures still cannot be known. Obviously the fact that the mission ended with at least six soldiers wounded and at least 10 Hamas supporters dead makes clear that there were significant failures in both the IDF’s training for and execution of the mission.

The navy and other relevant bodies will no doubt study these failures. But they point to a larger strategic failure that has crippled the country’s capacity to contend with the information war being waged against it. Until this failure is remedied, no after-action investigation, no enhanced training, no new electronic warfare doodad will make a significant impact on Israel’s ability to contend with the next Hamas flotilla.

IN THE space of four days, the country has suffered two massive defeats. A straight line runs between the anti-Israel resolution passed last Friday at the UN’s Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty Review Conference and the Hamas flotilla. And in both cases, officials voiced “surprise” at these defeats.

Given the months-long build-up to the NPT review conference, and the weeks-long build-up to the Turkish-Hamas flotilla, that surprise cannot be attributed to a lack of information. What it points to, rather, is a cognitive failure of our leaders to understand the nature of the war being waged against us. And it is this fundamental failure of cognition that has landed six soldiers in the hospital, the nation’s international reputation in tatters and its spokesmen searching for a way to describe a reality they do not understand.

So too, the fact that IDF forces boarding the ships would be met by trenchant, violent opposition was knowable simply by looking at Turkey’s role in the operation. First of all, the Turkish government-supported NGO behind the operation is IHH. As the US government, the Turkish government in the 1990s, the Investigative Project on Terrorism and countless other sources have proven, IHH is a terrorist organization with direct links to al-Qaida and Hamas. Its members have been involved in terrorist warfare from Chechnya and Bosnia to Iraq and Israel. The notion that IHH organizers would behave like radical leftist anti-Israel demonstrators on university campuses is simply ridiculous.

Moreover, there is Turkey’s behavior to consider. Since Obama took office, Turkey’s gradual slide into the Iranian axis has sped up considerably. Turkey’s leading role in the flotilla, and the Erdogan government’s ostentatious embrace of IHH – which just a decade ago Turkey banned from earthquake relief efforts in light of its violent, jihadist mission – made clear that the Erdogan regime would use any violence on board the ships as a way to strike a strategic blow at Israel’s international standing.

On a similar note – Melanie Phillips calls what happened on Monday the beginning of a global pogrom. By the way her new book “The World Turned Upside Down: The Global battle Over God, Truth and Power”  is highly recommended. I just finished reading it.

Some more thoughts about the Turkish terrorist flotilla attack.

The debacle poses urgent questions about the quality of Israel’s intelligence. The sight of those naval commandoes rappelling from their helicopter into the murderous arms of an Islamist lynch-mob was shocking to behold. As I have already noted, the commanders of this operation – including Defence Minister Ehud Barak – clearly believed the flotilla was merely full of anarchists, leftists and other useful idiots. How can it possibly have happened that they didn’t know the Turkish terrorist IHH were involved? And if they did, how can they have made such a dreadful error of military judgment?

Next, the line being peddled that one of the casualties of this debacle is Turkey’s hitherto close tie to Israel demonstrates once again the ostrich-like ignorance of Britain’s political and media class which refuses to grasp the reality of the global Islamic jihad. Turkey, which indeed was once an ally of Israel and the west, has been steadily morphing from its secular traditions into an Islamist regime — which is turning it into an enemy of the west (and also places it at odds with those secular Turks who are rightly horrified by the prospective loss of their freedoms).

Only last month, after all, Turkey agreed to take 1200 grams of Iran’s ‘surplus’ uranium for enrichment – thus providing the fig leaf for Iran’s genocide bomb. The IHH are Turkish terrorists linked to al Qaeda. Turkey is now threatening to up the ante by providing a Turkish naval escort for the next Gaza flotilla. Go figure.

Further evidence that the Marmara flotillistas were not your average humanitarian soup-kitchen run has apparently been aired on Israel TV news, which has reported that after interrogation 40 to 60 of these men have been revealed to be members of several units, each with its own commander and assignments.  The men had no official papers, and each carried a large amount of cash.  Some were equipped with night vision equipment and ceramic vests, and there appears to have been a military-style command structure on board.

Take back our language!

In this Orwellian world we live in, war is peace, terrorism is justice, self defense becomes aggression, reactionaries consider themselves to be forward looking, and the victimizer is now the victim. The Arab world along with their left wing enablers co-opts our most sacred terms and history such as the Holocaust, the Right of Return, and in a perverse way is trying to replay the saga of the Exodus ship in 1947.

by Caroline Glick

Courtesy of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Thursday Israel will again be the target of a jihadist-leftist propaganda assault. A flotilla of nine ships which set sail for Gaza from Cyprus earlier this week is scheduled to arrive at our doorstep.

The expressed aim of the flotilla’s organizers is to unlawfully provide aid and comfort to Hamas – an illegal terrorist organization. Since it seized power in Gaza three years ago, Hamas, which is openly committed to the genocide of world Jewry and the physical eradication of Israel, has transformed the Gaza Strip into a hub of the global jihad. It has been illegally holding hostage Gilad Schalit incognito for four years. And it is continuously engaged in a massive, Iranian-financed arms buildup ahead of its next assault.

Beyond providing aid to Hamas, the declared aim of the “Free Gaza” movement is to coerce Israel into providing Hamas with an outlet to the sea. This too is in contravention of international law which expressly prohibits states and non-state actors from providing any support to terrorist organizations.

IN SENDING out the latest group of ships, Turkey and its Irish, Greek and Swedish partners seek to appropriate the imagery of the Jewish pre-statehood struggle for independence from Britain. In a bid to appease Hamas’s jihadist precursors, in 1939 Britain’s Mandatory authorities broke international law and prohibited Jewish immigration to Mandatory Palestine.

The League of Nations’ letter of mandate for Britain specifically enjoined the British to facilitate Jewish immigration to the land of Israel. Yet following the Arab terror war from 1936-1939, the British issued the White Paper that all but prohibited Jewish immigration. This move blocked the one place on Earth where European Jews were wanted from accepting them and so trapped 6 million Jews in Hitler’s Europe.

Now the Turkish, Greek, Swedish and Irish governments are colluding with Hamas to purloin the imagery of the Exodusand the heroism of the Jewish people in the years leading up to statehood and project that imagery onto a terrorist organization that seeks to complete Hitler’s work. They further seek to invert reality by portraying Israel, which in accordance with international law is trying to contain and defeat Hamas, as a combination of the German Nazis and the British imperialists.

Rodan Update: The Regime of Barack Hussein Obama is reportedly set to create a deadline for an Israel-Palestinian agreement. they are using the Northern Ireland template as precedent. This is delusional and dangerous because Obama is creating conditions for a destructive war in that region that result in thousands of dead. The Middle East is not Northern Ireland.

There is a strong scent of 1938 (Munich and Kristallnacht) blowing through our campuses. Pro Israeli speakers are routinely harassed and not allowed to speak, gutless college administrations cave in to a small bunch of vocal left wingers and terror supporting Muslim groups, and board of directors are pressured to divest from  companies doing business in Israel. As Caroline Glick points out – this is not just a freedom of speech issue but something much more deep.

Moral blindness in the face of evil is depravity. But in the upside-down moral universe of our world, moral blindness has become a badge of honor. If you refuse to call evil by its name, then you are a moderate. And if you stand up to evil, you are an extremist.

The embrace of moral blindness as an emblem of sophistication is nowhere more apparent than among American Jews. Take recent events on US college campuses. This week the Washington Times reported that a large and vocal group of Brandeis University students are organizing to protest the university’s decision to invite Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren to give this year’s commencement address.

In a Facebook initiative led by a student named Jonathan Sussman, several hundred students have joined the demand to disinvite Oren. Sussman claims that by inviting him, Brandeis is siding with “a rogue state apologist, a defender of (among other things) the war crimes and human rights abuses of the war on Gaza.”

Sussman gained notoriety earlier this year when he sought to organize students to disrupt former UN ambassador Dore Gold in a debate the university hosted between him and Richard Goldstone. Sussman, a self-proclaimed communist, is a member of the anti-American Students for Democratic Society.

For their part, pro-Israel students have defended the administration’s decision to invite Oren on technical grounds. In a dedicated Facebook page, Brandeis student Nathan Mizrachi wrote that protesting Oren is a “waste of time.”

While allowing that Oren is controversial, Mizrachi argued against protesting his speech by claiming, “anyone who is consistently contributing to our worldview in a dignified, widely respected manner – instead of idiots like Michael Moore or Fox News – is someone who merits our attention.”

UNFORTUNATELY, THIS is more often than not what passes as a pro-Israel message in the US Jewish circles these days. Following the example communicated by the US Jewish leadership, supporters of Israel often act as if shouting down Israel advocates is wrong only because doing so is an assault on freedom of speech. It isn’t that Israel is in the right and the Palestinians are in the wrong. It isn’t that Israel is a just and moral society. It isn’t that the IDF fights justly and morally and only in self-defense. It isn’t that the Palestinians have taken all the lands Israel has given them and transformed them into terrorist enclaves or that they democratically elected Hamas – a genocidal terrorist organization – to lead them. It isn’t that there is not now and never was a Palestinian leadership willing to accept Israel’s right to exist.

Republicans, Democrats and Israel

Th old bi-partisan support for Israel’s struggle for existence is sadly fading. While support amongst Republicans and conservatives is still solid, there has been substantial slippage amongst Democrats and liberals. Garoline Glick offers some advice as to how to top the hemorrhaging.

by Caroline Glick

Bipartisan support for Israel has been one of the greatest casualties of US President Barack Obama’s assault on the Jewish state. Today, as Republican support for Israel reaches new heights, support for Israel has become a minority position among Democrats.

Consider the numbers. During Operation Cast Lead — eleven days before Obama’s inauguration — the House of Representatives passed Resolution 34 siding with Israel against Hamas. The resolution received 390 yea votes, five nay votes and 37 abstentions. Democrats cast four of the nay votes and 29 of the abstentions.

In November 2009, Congress passed House Resolution 867 condemning the Goldstone report. The resolution urged Obama to disregard its findings which falsely accused Israel of committing war crimes in Cast Lead. 344 Congressman voted for the resolution. 36 voted against it. 52 abstained. Among those voting against, 33 were Democrats. 44 Democrats abstained.

In February 2010, 54 Congressmen sent a letter to Obama urging him to pressure Israel to open Hamas-ruled Gaza’s international borders and accusing Israel of engaging in collective punishment. All of them were Democrats.

In the midst of the Obama administration’s assault on Israel over construction for Jews in Jerusalem, 327 Congressmen signed a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton calling for an end to the public attacks on the Israeli government. Of the 102 members that refused to sign the letter, 94 were Democrats.

These numbers show two things. First, since Obama entered office there has been a 13 point decline overall in the number of Congressmen willing to support Israel. Second, the decrease comes entirely from the Democratic side of the aisle. There the number of members willing to attack Israel has tripled.

As discouraging as they are, these numbers tell only part of the story. The pro-Israel initiatives the remaining Democrats agree to support today are less meaningful than those they supported before Obama entered office.

Resolution 34 during Cast Lead was substantive. It unhesitatingly blamed Hamas for the conflict, supported Israel and asserted that future wars will only be averted if Hamas is forced to fundamentally change
