The Arabic “Popular Uprising” now has spread like wildfire to Libya. The reports are changing by the hour, so it’s possible some of what I post is outdated already. Reports are that Qaddafi has fled Tripoli and the parliament has been set on fire by the protesters. In another grave report, the city of Benghazi is now in the hands of the anti-government forces. Qaddafi, who styles himself King of Kings of Africa, is now hanging on by a thread.
Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi is believed to have fled the capital Tripoli after anti-government demonstrators breached the state television building and set government property alight.
Protesters appear to have gained a foothold in Tripoli as banks and government buildings were looted while demonstrators have claimed they have taken control of the second city Benghazi.
[…]Colonel Gaddafi was today said to have left Tripoli to prepare for a last stand in Sebha, the small desert town where he grew up.
A source at Tripolis Mitiga Airport said he saw three planes leaving early this morning.
Gaddafi was on one, said the source. The planes were heading down south – to Sebha.
The claim was supported by at least two pro-democracy campaigners who said they had also seen the aircraft leaving.
Valletta, Malta (dpa) – Two Libyan military jets, believed to have been piloted by defectors, on Monday arrived in Malta where several staff members at Libya’s embassy had earlier joined protesters calling for the resignation of leader Moamer Gaddafi.
Defections are signs of a collapsing regime. The question I have is who is behind this “popular uprising” in Libya? Reports are that the main opposition force in Libya are Islamic Muslim Brotherhood based organization. Saif Qaddafihas claimed that outsiders have been involved. Clearly this could be a reference to the Progressive-Islamic Axis led by Soros and Barack Hussein Obama. The irony is that Col. Qaddafi was once a hero to the 3rd World Liberation movement and now an American president who subscribes to that ideology is supporting forces trying to remove him. Events are moving quickly in Libya and I would appreciate readers posting updated links.
In other news, it’s now becoming clear why Hizballah recently threatened to attack Israel and why two Iranian warships are moving into the Mediterranean. The Iranian regime, which is now facing legitimate protests and not of the “popular uprising” variety, needs to distract world attention from the repression of their own people. They also want to forment more anger in the Islamic world by creating another Israeli-Lebanese Shiite conflict. Israel, however, is aware of this and is ready.
Tehran could activate Hezbollah forces to attack Israel along the northern border in an effort to stave off domestic pressures within Iran, according to assessments in the IDF’s Northern Command.
The concern within the army is that if the regime in Tehran feels under pressure due to anti-government demonstrations it will try to initiate an attack on an Israeli target – either overseas or near the border – to divert attention from its own troubles.
I have read in Lebanese Christian forums that there are reports of Hizballah mobilizing its fighters and speaking of the liberation of AL-Quds. Clearly they don’t realize that PM Benjamin Netanyahu is not Ehud Olmert and that the IDF will fight with gloves off this time. This situation needs watching.
