If enough people speak up, the Islamists will not be able to silence all of us. Kudos to Herr Friedrich!

Hans-Peter Friedrich criticised after claiming Islam ‘does not belong’ in Germany

Germany’s new interior minister has said Islam does not “belong” in the country, reopening a bitter debate over the integration of Germany’s 4 million Muslims.

Hans-Peter Friedrich, who took office on Wednesday, was being asked by reporters about a gun attack at Frankfurt airport in which two US servicemen were killed and another two injured. Investigators suspect the attack, carried out by a 21-year-old Muslim immigrant from Kosovo, was an act of Islamist terrorism. A federal judge in Karlsruhe on Thursday ordered the suspect be remanded to jail on two counts of murder and three of attempted murder, pending further investigation.

In his first press conference as minister, Friedrich said on Friday that Muslims should be allowed live in modern Germany, but he added: “To say that Islam belongs in Germany is not a fact supported by history.”

He was immediately criticised by another government minister. “Of course Islam belongs in Germany,” said the justice minister, Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger, of the FDP party, which rules in a coalition with Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU). “I assume that the new minister will follow the lead of his predecessor [Thomas de Maizière] and will take his responsibility for integration policy seriously, and campaign for cohesion rather than exclusion,” she added.

Another FDP politician, Hartfrid Wolff, said on Friday in Berlin: “Islam has been a real part of Germany for several generations … It is just as unhelpful to deny this fact as to naively romanticise multiculturalism.”

Dieter Wiefelspütz, of the opposition SPD party, said Friedrich was talking “nonsense”. The interior minister had started his new job by making a “misjudgment”, he added.

Friedrich was promoted to his post after Merkel was forced to reshuffle her cabinet because of the high-profile resignation of her defence minister, Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, who was disgraced in a plagiarism scandal.

Just wondering…

If there is still a labor shortage in Germany, why is Germany not recruiting and importing unemployed or underemployed American tech workers, particularly well-educated older workers with good track records and considerable breadth of experience? US workers would make excellent replacements for workers from Muslim countries who are disrupting German society and presenting an unacceptable security risk. Unemployment in the US is still hovering around ten percent. Is there too much regulation and red tape in Germany, not to mention excessive taxation, to make this happen? If so, isn’t it time for Germany to consider deregulation, lower taxes, a rollback of socialism, and eventually, disentanglement from the EU?

Who are the secessionists?

1389AD stirs the pot again!

Smiley stirring a pot

This is what has gotten me banned from various other blogs. It makes a good topic for a fight thread, so I’ll submit it here.

Confederate flag captioned with 'If this flag offends you...you need a History lesson.'

Present-day secessionists (whom leftists, as well as some misguided neocons, typically label as “neo-Confederates”) do not espouse white supremacy. Absolutely none of us want to re-establish slavery. Despite what over a century of indoctrination would have us believe, the War for Southern Independence was never primarily about slavery; it was about resisting ruinous taxation and enemy invasion. That having been said, it is not our goal to bring back the old Confederacy, but to rebuild something far better.

I know because I’ve been part of secessionist circles for more than a decade.

What we want is to free EVERYONE from enslavement to centralized government tyranny. We started long before the Tea Party. Our motivations are much the same – roll back the federal tax-and-spend tyranny – but we plan to carry it even further by disbanding the federal government entirely and replacing it with VOLUNTARY regional confederations of states, under a Constitution that stringently prohibits the centralization of power.

Most important of all, secession will put an end to an out-of-control central government selling us out to our totalitarian adversaries, particularly the Muslims.

I strongly recommend that the nations within the EU secede also, and for the same reasons. The centralized EU government is accountable to no one, and it has been nothing but a tranzi-progressive/pro-jihadi fraud from the get-go.

‘Grand Turkey’ and the Framework Decision

Those of us who man the watchtowers against the Islamic advance spend a lot of time training our binoculars on Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Pakistan. It’s at least as important, however, to keep an eye on Turkey. The current AKP regime in Ankara combines traditional Turkish nationalism of the Ataturk variety with a newly resurgent fundamentalist Islam, so that Turkish national assertiveness has taken on the aspect of a neo-Ottoman jihad.

After reading my my post about Turkey the other night, our Flemish correspondent VH was prompted to send a follow-up report that ties Turkey’s new muscle in the Council of Europe to the implementation of the EU’s notorious Framework Decision, whose deadline is coming up in less than two weeks.

“Grand Turkey” and the Framework Decision
by VH

The “Grand Turkey” speech by Recep Tayyip Erdogan last year was a between-the-lines look at what the Turks are up to:

We have said that for small political interests such as parties, votes and elections one should not hinder the progress of this country. We said that the vision of Grand Turkey is above all the party politics. That is why we said Turkey should think big and aim high. Regardless of one’s political views, a big and powerful Turkey means a more spacious, livable and bigger Turkey for everyone. There is room for everyone in this Grand Turkey. Our people of Grand Turkey possess grand heart and vision. Grand Turkey is a source of stability and peace in its region. It is a country, which gives confidence rather than giving discomfort and it empathizes rather than imposing.

While all of this is going on, consider the following seemingly unrelated fact: on November 28 the door will close on the EU “Council Framework Decision 2008/913/JHA”[1], which in a very serious way will stifle free speech in the EU. It equates race with religion, and extends the jurisdiction of a member state on this matter across the borders of a member state: a citizen of member state A is punishable in member state A and/or B for “offenses” committed in member state B, including activities on the internet (see Article 9.1b and 9.2b). This may occur even when nobody files a complaint (see Article 8).

As you will see, this is an obvious stratagem to criminalize criticism of Islam, in line with the OIC’s oft-proposed resolution against “defamation of religions” at the UN.

From the legislative summary of the Framework Decision (emphasis added):

“Racist and xenophobic behaviour must constitute an offence in all Member States and must be punishable by effective, proportionate and dissuasive penalties of a maximum of at least one to three years of imprisonment.”

[…]

Certain forms of conduct as outlined below, which are committed for a racist or xenophobic purpose, are punishable as criminal offences:

  • public incitement to violence or hatred directed against a group of persons or a member of such a group defined on the basis of race, colour, descent, religion or belief, or national or ethnic origin;

[…]

From the “Framework” (pdf)[1]:

Member States shall take the necessary measures to comply with the provisions of this Framework Decision by 28 November 2010.

Notes:

[1] A few more quotes from that “Framework” (pdf), with the more interesting parts bolded:

    […]
3.   For the purpose of paragraph 1, the reference to religion is intended to cover, at least, conduct which is a pretext for directing acts against a group of persons or a member of such a group defined by reference to race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin.

—————

Article 8

Initiation of investigation or prosecution

Each Member State shall take the necessary measures to ensure that investigations into or prosecution of the conduct referred to in Articles 1 and 2 shall not be dependent on a report or an accusation made by a victim of the conduct, at least in the most serious cases where the conduct has been committed in its territory.

—————

Article 9

Jurisdiction

1.   Each Member State shall take the necessary measures to establish its jurisdiction with regard to the conduct referred to in Articles 1 and 2 where the conduct has been committed:

    (c)   for the benefit of a legal person that has its head office in the territory of that Member State.
2.   When establishing jurisdiction in accordance with paragraph 1(a), each Member State shall take the necessary measures to ensure that its jurisdiction extends to cases where the conduct is committed through an information system and:
    (a)   the offender commits the conduct when physically present in its territory, whether or not the conduct involves material hosted on an information system in its territory;
    (b)   the conduct involves material hosted on an information system in its territory, whether or not the offender commits the conduct when physically present in its territory.

You cannot escape history or human nature

Victor Davis Hanson wonders why as Europe discovers that Socialism is a failure – America decides (or more precisely Obama decides) to embrace it. Utopianism  never works because human nature is what it is.

by Victor Davis Hanson

Vienna — Walk the beautiful streets in Munich, Strasbourg, and Vienna, and you can see why Europeans thought in the last decades that they had reached the end of history. There is not a soldier to be seen. Sidewalk cafes are jammed midweek with two-hour lunch-goers. Fashion, vacations, and sex dominate the ads and billboards.

Bikers, electric commuter trains, and tiny fuel-efficient cars zoom by in a green contrast to our gas-guzzling Tahoes and Yukons.

Naturally, there is a general sense of satisfied accomplishment among European social democrats. They believe that finally a quiet sameness across their continent has replaced two millennia of constant European warring and revolution. Now, everybody seems to get an apartment, a small car, a state job, a good pension and peace — and in exchange, all voice comfortable, center-left consensus politics.

But beneath the genteel European Union veneer, few remember that human nature remains constant and does not give even nice Europeans a pass from its harsh laws.

Suddenly, the Greek financial meltdown and the staggering debts that must be repaid alternately enraged and terrified northern-European creditors. Even the most vocal Europhiles are quietly rethinking the entire premise of a European Union that offers lavish benefits but has no sound method of paying for them.

After all, it is one thing to redistribute income by taking money from richer Germans and Austrians to give to poorer Germans and Austrians. But it is something else for all Germans and Austrians to extend their socialist charity to siesta-taking Greeks, Italians, and Spaniards. For all the lofty rhetoric of the collective European Union, age-old culture, language, and nationalism still trump the ideal of continental unity.
