Palin hints at late entry

A few months ago I would have been no way, but now with the GOP Establishment adamant about shoving Romney down our throats, I say, hey why not!

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Sarah Palin says it’s not too late for someone to jump into the Republican presidential race.

Asked by Fox Business Network’s “Follow the Money” about the likelihood that she’d become a candidate, the former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee said it’s not too late for “folks” to jump in. Said Palin: “Who knows what will happen in the future.”

Why not! At least she will go after Romney.

The Newt Gingrich Resurrection

This is NOT an endorsement. It’s an analysis.

There is no doubt that Newt Gingrich is now rising in the polls. This has taken many, including Newt Gingrich himself, by surprise. In all honesty, he was probably running for President to increase his speaker fees. He never thought he had a shot at the nomination. That has now changed. What is driving this increasing support for Gingrich? I have a few theories on what’s going on here.

The 1990’s was America’s last decade of peace and prosperity. From 1992-2000, Americans enjoyed a great economic boom that benefited every class. Incomes went up, there was social mobility and people enjoyed life. Newt Gingrich is associated with this era. Although he has the negative image of the government shutdown, it is overshadowed by the good times enjoyed by Americans. The Gingrich Congress (95-98) oversaw the creation of 10 Million jobs, welfare reform, capital gains tax cuts and deregulation of telecommunications. It was the first real Economically and Fiscally Conservative Congress since the 1920’s. Compare Newt’s record with that of corrupt crook and Progressive Tom Delay and his puppet Dennis Hastert which oversaw a massive increase in the size of government. Then after that, we had the Neo-Marxist Congress of Nancy Pelosi. The 95-98 time period was light years ahead of what followed. Americans felt good in that time period. This has lead to nostalgic feelings that are translating into support for Newt Gingrich.

Another factor behind Newt’s rise is his debate performances. Debates do not win an election. If they did Kerry would have won in 2004. But Conservatives are tired of inarticulate candidates who can’t effectively debate. They want someone who can wipe the floor with Obama and espouse Conservatism doing it. So far, Newt Gingrich has been able to do this at the GOP debates. He is a real intellect who has a grasp on the issues and actually offers solutions.

The 3rd and biggest reason for Newt’s rise is that Conservatives don’t want Mitt Romney. The GOP Establishment has thrown their lot in with Mitt Romney. They want a Progressive who will manage Big Government better than Obama not reform the government and make it efficient and less intrusive. Newt, whatever his flaws, has a Economic/Fiscally Conservative record as Speaker. Romney governed to the Left of Michael Dukakis as Governor of Massachusetts. In fact, a Mitt Romney’s Presidency would be way to the left of Bill Clinton’s! Make no mistake, Romney is a Center-Left Progressive. Newt, despite his occasional dabbling with Liberals, is Center-Right, especially on issues that matter to Conservatives.

Now if Romney is the nominee I will get very drunk and reluctantly vote for him. Then I will go to confession the next day! But after the electio, I will go after him the same way I did Bush and Obama. Next week I will have a post explaining why if, God forbid, Romney is the GOP nominee, Conservatives should reluctantly vote for him against the Regime of the False Messiah. No, I’m not selling out, just thinking strategically and I will share my strategy in a post next week.

Getting back to Newt, he has flaws and Conservatives should think long and hard before choosing him as the GOP nominee. By the same token, Obama and the Progressives know that Newt is intellectually and rhetorically their superior. This terrain they are not used to. Let’s be honest, the last 4 republican Presidential candidates were not great thinkers or speakers. The Left will have to deal with someone who can go toe to toe with them on facts and demolish their arguments.

This is not an endorsement of Newt, I linked to his flaws. But I have to be intellectually honest here. His rise is not a fluke, but a convergence of events and feelings. Newt Gingrich is a GOP Hail Mary Pass. He can either win it big or crash and burn. Only time will tell what the result ill be.

Let’s have a civil discussion about the resurrection of Newt Gingrich. No one is wrong here, just different views.

Obama campaign to target Romney

Frustrated by what they saw as an inability of other Republican candidates to call out Romney’s position changes, the Obama Regime is now getting ready to attack Romney. They know he’s a phoney after all it takes one to know one. The Obama campaign Know Romney is deeply flawed. They plan to expose that weakness since they assume he will be the GOP nominee.

Mitt Romney hasn’t won anything yet but President Barack Obama’s campaign team is confident enough that Romney is the probable – if not the presumptive – Republican nominee that they have begun aiming their fire almost exclusively at him.

Obama and his Chicago campaign brain trust seem to have come to their conclusion about Romney at the exact moment many Republicans realized he might really go all the way: At the end of Tuesday night’s GOP debate in New Hampshire, when Rick Perry and the rest of the field seemed to disappear into the enervating fog of inevitability that now surrounds the former Massachusetts governor.

They were also motivated, top Democrats told POLITICO, by anger at the GOP field for not hitting Romney sufficiently hard on his well-documented position shifts on abortion rights, civil unions and health care reform.

“The other Republicans have sucked so bad we didn’t have any choice” but begin to target Romney months before the Iowa caucuses, said a top Obama ally, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Conservatives should disappoint Obama and defeat Romney in the primaries.

Republican Insiders prefer Romney over Perry

The disconnect between the average Republican voter and the Republican elites is turning into a huge rift. A new survey of Republican insiders claim the GOP will be better off with Mitt Romney as the nominee and not Rick Perry. They claim Romney is a centrist and will appeal to Independents and swing voters. Clearly they are delusional. Mitt Romney is exactly the type of Republicans Independents hate. He’s elitist, aloof and doesn’t understand the average Joe. Clearly the GOP elites don’t live in the real world.

Many Republican Insiders acknowledged Perry’s appeal to conservatives but questioned his ability to win over independent voters. “Perry can fire up the base, but this election will be won in the middle, not on the fringes,” said one. Said another, “Having trouble ID-ing a single independent who’d vote for Perry.”

Democratic Insiders echoed that assessment by an even larger majority. “This election is sitting on a platter for Republicans if they do it right,” said one. “Romney is probably good enough. Perry will get drilled by independent voters and women.” Another quipped, “Rick Perry is all base and no swing.”

Insiders in both parties raised questions about Perry’s durability under the intense scrutiny of a presidential campaign. “As a conservative Republican, I love Rick Perry,” said one Republican Insider, who added “but as a campaign strategist, I know the degree to which a few self-reinforcing oppo-hits can devastate a candidate.” A Democratic Insider said plainly, “Perry’s mouth will do him in.”

[….]

Still, some Republican Insiders see Perry’s outsized personality and ability to appeal to the party’s base as beneficial in a race against Obama. “Romney can’t match Obama in personality, but Perry can,” said one. Another added, “Perry excites the base and unifies the Reagan coalition. Romney doesn’t.”

One Democratic Insider agreed, warning against underestimating Perry. “It’s 1980 again. Some think Perry is too extreme, but it is his ability to appear genuine and confident that voters will remember.”

The only reason Democratic insiders think Romney would be better for the GOP is because he is exactly the straw man Obama wants. Romney’s actions at Bain Capital, where he made money outsourcing jobs overseas will be used against him. Obama will run a demagogue campaign and Romney is the perfect straw-man for this.

This survey exaplisn why Karl Rove and his minions are attacking Rick Perry. They know Romney will be destroyed over Bain Capital in a general election. They want a Romney defeat so their anointed one, Jeb Bush can run as a different and Compassionate Republican in 2016. We tried that show 2000-2008.

No thanks guys.
