Professor Eugen Weber continues in:

25. The Renaissance and the Age of Discovery
Renaissance humanists made man “the measure of all things.” Europe was possessed by a new passion for knowledge. Innovation advances and the glory of Man replaces ‘Ora et Labora’; the Renaissance Humanists look as far back as ancient Greece and Rome. Revival of the Classics creates the Humanities; The study of the virtuous life and how it should be led.
