The Obama Administration Prepares for War With Libya

This is a very disturbing turn of events. Yesterday, as we all know, the UN Security Council in a vote of 10-0 (with 5 abstaining) Authorized a “No-Fly” zone in Libya plus:

Authorizes Member States that have notified the Secretary-General, acting nationally or through regional organizations or arrangements, and acting in cooperation with the Secretary-General, to take all necessary measures … to protect civilians and civilian populated areas under threat of attack in the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, including Benghazi, while excluding a foreign occupation force of any form on any part of Libyan territory, and requests the Member States concerned to inform the Secretary-General immediately of the measures they take pursuant to the authorization conferred by this paragraph which shall be immediately reported to the Security Council

“All necessary measures” is an authorization of war. How far witll we go? I do not know, but the indicators that this article puts forth are that we are contemplating more than a “No-Fly” zone (as authorized by the UN):

At Thursday morning’s hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee, Air Force Chief of Staff Norton Schwartz said that Qaddafi’s forces had reestablished control over large swaths of territory and that the Libyan leader had tens of planes and hundreds of helicopters in use.

He called the plan to impose a no-fly zone in a few days “overly optimistic” and said “it would take upwards of a week.”

Schwartz was also clear that while the U.S. military can impose a no-fly zone, that’s not likely to stop Qaddafi all by itself. He also noted that to do so effectively might require diverting some resources from the missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“The question is, is a no-fly zone the last step or is it the first step?” Schwartz said.
Asked by Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) whether a no-fly zone could turn the momentum, Scwartz replied, “A no-fly zone, sir, would not be sufficient.”

Will we stop at “not…sufficient”? Notice, too, that Schwartz indicates that this may divert resources from Iraq and Afghanistan. Does this make sense? Only to the Tranzi-Progressives that want to see American military power broken. What will we do? Bare minimum it looks like they want us to be providing close air support and anti-armor capabilities to the “rebels”:

Asked what he learned from the briefing, Graham said, “I learned that it’s not too late, that the opposition forces are under siege but they are holding, and that with a timely intervention, a no-fly zone and no-drive zone, we can turn this thing around.”

Asked exactly what the first wave of attacks would look like, Graham said, “We ground his aircraft and some tanks start getting blown up that are headed toward the opposition forces.”

No matter what spin you put on that, it is becoming co-belligerants with the Islamists, supporting their goals, and either winning or losing with them. Does this strike you as sound US Foreign Policy? We don’t really even know what the “rebels” represent except that that are anti-Qaddafi. That is hardly reassuring.

As has been reiterated on this blog by several authors, there is no compelling American interest in Libya. Even if these “rebels” were Jeffersonian Democrats there would not be compelling American National Interest here, but there is no indication beyond wishful thinking that they are anything resembling such a thing. Their battle-flag has the Islamic Crecent and Star on it, telling the observant that they are Islamists of one stripe or another. Does it make sense to commit American blood and treasure to the establishment of yet another Islamic Republic, whether they vote on their Mullahs or not?

Conservatives should be against intervening in Libya

Something has really been irking me lately. Too many Conservatives have been calling for US intervention in Libya. I ask myself, haven’t we learned from Afghanistan and Iraq? The fact is American blood should not be spilled for the concept of spreading Democracy at the point of a gun. That concept is a Leftist/Progressive one. Just because certain beloved Conservatives, whom I will not name, are calling for military action, doesn’t mean we have to be lemmings and agree. It’s the Progressives in Europe who started this call for intervention to assist their manufactured “Popular Uprising”™ in Libya. This is not in America’s interest and we should stay out of this mess.

I am against intervention in Libya. In explaining why, four things about the ongoing commentary and handwringing over no-fly zones and other potential U.S. intrusions seem noteworthy.

First are the sudden torrents of disdain for Muammar Qaddafi by commentators who spent the Bush years saying this very same terrorist — who even then was repressing the very same opposition he is fighting now — was a great ally of the United States against terrorism. I carry no brief for Qaddafi; I thought it was reprehensible for our government to try to launder him into a statesman, much like Clinton did with Arafat. But given that this strategy only tightened Qaddafi’s grip on power, it’s a bit much for us suddenly to be told that we are now under a moral obligation to oust him. Some proponents of intervention add, “He must answer for Flight 103.” Why didn’t he need to be removed and answer for Flight 103 some time between 2003 and 2008?

Third, reading my friend Pete Wehner’s poston Contentions today, I have to say that proponents of the “Freedom Agenda” continue to misstate the position of their critics. Pete quotes George Will’s observation — now apparently reconsidered — that Condi Rice was “quite right” in condemning the “enormous condescension in saying that somehow the Arab world is just not up to democracy.” She is actually quite wrong. No serious person I know is saying Muslims aren’t up to democracy (and what we’re talking about here is a Muslim issue more than an Arab issue). This is not a question of ignorance or incompetence. They understand the principles of our democracy. They just don’t want them

Andrew McCarthy is no isolationist. He is friends with Pam Geller and Robert Spencer and was part of the prosecution team in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. He is against the Jihad and has written a book on Islam’s alliance with the left. These Arab Islamic societies don’t want our democracy. They want theirs, where they can go out conquer and commit genocide as they did in the 7th century and are still doing in many places. These Arabs calling for us to invade are the same clowns that pressured us to back stab the Serbs in the 90’s. They are duping Western progressives and obviously too many Conservatives.

If  spreading democracy at the point of a gun and spilling blood for Islam is what the new Conservative foreign policy is all about, count me out. If this is the GOP’s agenda for 2012 I might sit that election out. I despise the Democrats because they are racists and support Islamic Imperialism. Now the Republicans want unlimited wars to spread Islamic democracies as their policies? Well screw them too.

This isn’t Conservatism, this is Tranzi Progressivism with a fake Conservative face and I want no part of it.

Muslim Brotherhood leader al-Qaradawi calls to have Qaddafi killed

Nice guy in this picture?

I never in my life thought I would have some sympathy for Libyan leader Col. Moamer Qaddafi, but clearly hell is freezing over. The Muslim Brotherhood’s spiritual leader Yusuf al-Qaradawi has issued a fatwa ordering the death of Qaddafi. The question is why would Libyans listen to this guy? The answer is that the Muslim Brotherhood, aided by Tranzi Progressive forces, are behind this “popular uprising”. They have had problems with the Libyan dictator for decades. Now they feel power in their grasp and will stop at nothing to achieve it.

DOHA (AFP) – Influential Muslim cleric Yusuf al-Qaradawi issued a fatwa on Monday that any Libyan soldier who can shoot dead embattled leader Moamer Kadhafi should do so “to rid Libya of him.”

“Whoever in the Libyan army is able to shoot a bullet at Mr Kadhafi should do so,” Qaradawi, an Egyptian-born cleric who is usually based in Qatar, told Al-Jazeera television.

Barack Hussein Obama is supporting the Islamist lead revolt against Col. Qaddafi. The irony is that Obama is 3rd World Liberation ideologue and Qaddafi was one of the leaders of this movement. This shows that the New School 3rd Worlders will throw the old guard under the bus to please their Islamic allies. They are feeding their own to the crocodiles to save their own skin.

With the chaos in Libya, oil prices are now skyrocketing. The media will downplay this so as to not cause a negative view of the Obama Boom. 2012 might be a replay of 1980 with rising oil prices causing inflation and a recession. Luckily for Obama, there’s no Reagan out there.

The Libyan “Popular Uprising”: Benghazi Falls and Reports of Qaddafi Fleeing Tripoli

The Arabic “Popular Uprising” now has spread like wildfire to Libya. The reports are changing by the hour, so it’s possible some of what I post is outdated already. Reports are that Qaddafi has fled Tripoli and the parliament has been set on fire by the protesters. In another grave report, the city of Benghazi is now in the hands of the anti-government forces. Qaddafi, who styles himself King of Kings of Africa, is now hanging on by a thread.

Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi is believed to have fled the capital Tripoli after anti-government demonstrators breached the state television building and set government property alight.

Protesters appear to have gained a foothold in Tripoli as banks and government buildings were looted while demonstrators have claimed they have taken control of the second city Benghazi.

[…]

Colonel Gaddafi was today said to have left Tripoli to prepare for a last stand in Sebha, the small desert town where he grew up.

A source at Tripolis Mitiga Airport said he saw three planes leaving early this morning.

Gaddafi was on one, said the source. The planes were heading down south – to Sebha.

The claim was supported by at least two pro-democracy campaigners who said they had also seen the aircraft leaving.

The reports are also reports that Libyan air force jets had defected to Malta.
Valletta, Malta (dpa) – Two Libyan military jets, believed to have been piloted by defectors, on Monday arrived in Malta where several staff members at Libya’s embassy had earlier joined protesters calling for the resignation of leader Moamer Gaddafi.

Defections are signs of a collapsing regime. The question I have is who is behind this “popular uprising” in Libya? Reports are that the main opposition force in Libya are Islamic Muslim Brotherhood based organization. Saif Qaddafihas claimed that outsiders have been involved. Clearly this could be a reference to the Progressive-Islamic Axis led by Soros and Barack Hussein Obama. The irony is that Col. Qaddafi was once a hero to the 3rd World Liberation movement and now an American president who subscribes to that ideology is supporting forces trying to remove him. Events are moving quickly in Libya and I would appreciate readers posting updated links.

In other news, it’s now becoming clear why Hizballah recently threatened to attack Israel and why two Iranian warships are moving into the Mediterranean. The Iranian regime, which is now facing legitimate protests and not of the “popular uprising” variety, needs to distract world attention from the repression of their own people. They also want to forment more anger in the Islamic world by creating another Israeli-Lebanese Shiite conflict. Israel, however, is aware of this and is ready.

Tehran could activate Hezbollah forces to attack Israel along the northern border in an effort to stave off domestic pressures within Iran, according to assessments in the IDF’s Northern Command.

The concern within the army is that if the regime in Tehran feels under pressure due to anti-government demonstrations it will try to initiate an attack on an Israeli target – either overseas or near the border – to divert attention from its own troubles.

I have read in Lebanese Christian forums that there are reports of Hizballah mobilizing its fighters and speaking of the liberation of AL-Quds. Clearly they don’t realize that PM Benjamin Netanyahu is not Ehud Olmert and that the IDF will fight with gloves off this time. This situation needs watching.
