It is a very scary thing that Mike Castle called the White House and has yet to call Christine O’Donnell with a congratulatory statement. Even for appearance sake.

In Alaska, Lisa Murkowski is still seriously contemplating running as an independent and thereby thwarting the hopes of Joe Miller.

Lisa Murkowski, the Alaska senator defeated by upstart challenger Joe Miller in the state’s GOP primary, is considering running in the November general election as a write-in or third-party candidate.

Steve Wackowski, spokesman for the two-term senator, said Ms. Murkowski was weighing requests by supporters in Alaska that she stay in the race against Mr. Miller. One option for Ms. Murkowski would be to run on Alaska’s Libertarian Party’s ticket, Mr. Wackowski said, adding that her decision could come by next week, he said. Ms. Murkowski declined to comment.

Joe Miller, a former magistrate who was backed by former Alaska Gov. the tea party, won the August primary by just 2,013 votes.

This act of selfish elitism rubs many the wrong way, but may pale in comparison to the tack that Castle may be taking.

It’s not out of the realm of possibility that Castle may have been garnering support from the White House during his conversations with Barack Obama and Joe Biden on Wednesday.

It’s been 24 hours since Delaware GOP Senate primary winner Christine O’Donnell dethroned nine-term Soros Republican incumbent Mike Castle. As of tonight, he still hadn’t placed an obligatory call to congratulate her — and his e-mail to supporters doesn’t mention her at all, according to the Delaware News Journal.

While it’s obviously pure speculation on the part of this writer, we’ve seen this White House use it’s influence to try and sway election results before.

Is it then so crazy to speculate that perhaps this administration would be more than happy to offer Castle a job or some other favor in exchange for Castle throwing his hat in the ring as a third-party candidate and ensuring a Democrat victory?

Castle may see it as a win for “establishment Republicans” by taking steps to try and quell the Tea Party revolution, which many Beltway types are more uncomfortable with than they let on.
