Samhung Stone

I thought that this jewel of an article had been lost but it appears that the DPRK news has been re-archived and the old articles are back on line…a comedy gold mine!

“Samhung Stone”
Pyongyang, November 3 (KCNA) — Samhung Stone is highly efficacious for curing hypotension, hypertension, irregular pulsation and neuralgia. A group of technicians from an agricultural enterprise in south Hwanghae Province has recently developed a stone for medicine. Called “Samhung Stone”, it is 15 mm in diameter and 4.5 grams in weight. It is designed to make gasoline, diesel oil and kerosine quicken the process of burning. It is used for a cure of diseases. When a certain number of these stones are put into the oil tanks of car, truck, diesel engine, rice-transplanting machine and kerosine stove, they will save oil 10 per cent at minimum and 20 per cent at maximum. These stones are washed in water and dried in sunshine once every year before they are put into the tanks again. They are available for a few years. It also helps the engines operate smoothly and reduce the poisoning elements in exhaust fume. It has no bad effect to the engines. When the engine is heated, more oil is saved. With the research extended farther afield, the range of its use will increase.

When will this wonder of DPRK science be available, as seen on TV,  for $19.95?  I have my credit card ready! However, i kinda like irregular pulsations…maybe just use it in the truck for now.

Saturday Lecture Series: Call For Papers & Charlemagne

Before we get to the Saturday Lecture, I would like to take this opportunity to announce a ‘Call For Papers’.

This blog has many people with a very divergent set of expertise and knowledge. Therefore, I am opening this slot for guest ‘lectures’ for anyone who submits a well written, fully cited, submission on a topic that is normally not covered on the blog. The submission can be on a topic that is covered but it will have to be very in  depth and go into new detail that would greatly increase the understanding of the subject at hand. Submissions may be made to the blog’s email address with the subject line ‘Saturday Lecture Series’. I reserve the right to edit, approve, and publish at my discretion.  So, who is up for the challenge?

In the mean time, let’s return to Prof Eugen Weber’s series The Western Tradition:

18. The Age of Charlemagne
Charlemagne revived hopes for a new empire in Western Europe.
