Seattle Liberals Rediscover the Flag

Ready to lose your appetite (if not your lunch)? Red, white and true blue: City hoists Old Glory.

Barack Obama’s presidential win held a poignant significance for liberal Seattleites: This is their America, too.

Download, print your own flag here

The feeling was evident in jubilant partying in the streets, in quiet moments of reflection and in blossoms of red, white and blue.

With newfound patriotism, Seattleites want to wave the flag, hang it from their homes and stick it on their cars.

“The thing that’s kind of astounding to me is I never ever would have cared to own a flag,” said Rosemary Garner, 42. “This is the first day in my life I actually feel this funny sense of pride about my country. It’s a very foreign feeling, but it’s a good one.”

Of course, when Michelle Obama was criticized for saying she was “proud of my country for the first time,” these same people screamed “racism!” and pointed fingers.

Now, apparently, the whole city of Seattle is echoing her.

Treasury Considering Islamic Finance?

Frank Gaffney says the US Treasury, as part of its effort to deal with the banking crisis, is preparing to submit to Shariah.

As reported in this space last week, Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Robert Kimmitt set the stage with his recent visit to Saudi Arabia and other oil-rich Persian Gulf states. His stated purpose was to promote the recycling of petrodollars in the form of foreign investment here.

Evidently, the price demanded by his hosts is that the U.S. government get with the Islamist financial program. While in Riyadh, Mr. Kimmitt announced: “The U.S. government is currently studying the salient features of Islamic banking to ascertain how far it could be useful in fighting the ongoing world economic crisis.”

“Islamic banking” is a euphemism for a practice better known as “Shariah-Compliant Finance (SFC).” And it turns out that this week the Treasury will be taking officials from various federal agencies literally to school on SFC.

The department is hosting a half-day course entitled “Islamic Finance 101” on Thursday at its headquarters building. Treasury’s self-described “seminar for the policy community” is co-sponsored with the leading academic promoters of Shariah and SCF in the United States: Harvard University Law School’s Project on Islamic Finance. At the very least, the U.S. government evidently hopes to emulate Harvard’s success in securing immense amounts of Wahhabi money in exchange for conforming to the Islamists’ agenda. Like Harvard, Treasury seems utterly disinterested in what Shariah actually is, and portends

Arab Reactions to Obama’s Election

MEMRI has reactions from Arab media to the election of Barack Obama. Includes this lovely sentiment from our good friends in Saudi Arabia:

The Saudi daily Al-Watan stated in an editorial: “There is no significant difference between Obama and McCain. They disagree only on the means to achieve America’s chief goal, which is to rule for another hundred years.”

And here’s a wake up call for anyone who believes Obama’s election is going to increase the love from Islamists:

In a fatwa published on the eve of the U.S. elections, Sheikh Yousef Al-Qaradhawi expressed his preference for Sen. John McCain as president: “Personally, I would prefer for the Republican candidate, [John] McCain, to be elected. This is because I prefer the obvious enemy who does not hypocritically [conceal] his hostility toward you… to the enemy who wears a mask [of friendliness].”

Al-Qaradhawi added: “Whoever thinks that the Democrats are less hostile to [the Arabs] than the Republicans should know that the number of Iraqis killed during the siege [of Iraq] by the Democrat Bill Clinton is twice as high as the number of [Iraqis] killed by the Republican [George] Bush.

“The Democrats kill you slowly without you noticing it – and therein lies the danger. They are like a snake whose touch is not felt until its poison enters your body.

“Therefore, I hope that McCain comes to power, so that the motivation for jihad remains in our hearts, and so that we do not [begin to] rely on the infidels – [which will cause us] to be struck by the fire [of Hell].”

Hope! Change!

Obama Made Secret Promises to Palestinians

Report: Obama voiced support for Palestinians’ right to Jerusalem

The Palestinian Authority has refrained from officially declaring its support for one of the US presidential hopefuls, claiming this was an “internal American issue”, but a Lebanese newspaper reported Tuesday that Palestinian leaders in the West Bank are hoping for Democrat Barack Obama’s victory.

Sources in Ramallah told the al-Akhbar daily that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad are expecting Obama to win, “despite his leaning towards Israel,” which they said was aimed at gaining the support of the Israel and the Jewish lobby in the United States.

The sources said that during a recent meeting with Obama, the two Palestinian leaders “heard the best things they ever heard from an American president.”

According to the report, the Democratic senator told Abbas and Fayyad that he “supports the rights of the Palestinians to east Jerusalem, as well as their right to a stable, sovereign state”, but asked them to keep the remarks a secret.

Rodan’s comments:

I am not surprised by this. Obama has tricked Jewish Americans into voting for him. Israel will be on its own, if Obama wins. They should ally with Russia or China if that is the case.
