Lecture Holiday! READ this first, please

We were going to have a lecture about…NOT mint juleps, big hats on the beautiful ladies,  and horses.

As me and mine come from horse people, there is no lecture today.  We have cleaned the stalls and mucked and mucked and mucked, so none of us are any where near the Downs.  But that doesn’t prevent an early start for the festiviti.

It’s the 137th Derby Day!

and lets start this right, how about some mint juleps:

4 fresh mint sprigs
2 1/2 oz bourbon whiskey
1 tsp powdered sugar
2 tsp water

Muddle mint leaves, powdered sugar, and water in a collins glass. Fill the glass with shaved or crushed ice and add bourbon. Top with more ice and garnish with a mint sprig. Serve with a straw.

OR….

Let’s Boooze!

I will update this closer to race time. Enjoy yer Julep!

College Football Thread: GO ARMY BEAT NAVY!

.

.

GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY!!!

That is all.

ESPN is carrying the Division I-AA Playoffs.  Doesnt that sound nice, NCAA playoffs…I have an idea, how about the top 8 teams in Division I go to a playoff that would take 3 weeks to find the real winner, and the rest of the teams can go to bowl games? Throw some revenue sharing in there and hey bingo…playoffs! I am sure it would also make oodles of cash as well.  What are your ideas?

Oh, and there is small trophy getting handed out today in NYC, The Heisman, i think its called. 🙂

Aaaaannnd….I have been calling for the firing of Coach Wannstedt at Pitt since day one, I got my wish, here is an excellent summary of why:

Cook: Wannstedt’s departure for the best

(its the open thread/ sports thread/ for saturday, no reason to wreck all the serious threads with sporting news and trash talk.)

This is it, the graduate work starts in a week or two, we got the conference championships today.

Via ESPN:

3:30 PM ETNo. 2 Oregon at Oregon State The Civil War

4:00 PM ETNo. 1 Auburn vs. No. 19 South Carolina* for the SEC championship

7:45 PM ETNo. 21 Florida State vs. No. 15 Virginia Tech* ACC Championship

8:00 PM ETNo. 9 Oklahoma vs. No. 13 Nebraska*  Big 12 Championship

Do notice that Auburn is now #1 in BCS. Its about time. As i said, there is no way Oregon beats any of the top 3 teams in the SEC.

Enjoy the games!

GO ARMY BEAT NAVY! (next week)
