Charles’ Law

Lookee what I found opened on my desk when I came home from work today! The 1963 edition of “The Mainstream of Physics” by Arthur Beiser, opened to Page 184!

Let’s analyze this a tad. Here we have a white boy with an igloo (no, he’s not an Aleut or Inuit because they hadn’t been invented yet), a white boy skating, and another white kid with a grill, shades and bermudas.  All three are burning stuff, belching smoke and emitting pollution and greenhouse gases like there’s no tomorrow, contributing to the end of the world as we know it.  Still, some things just don’t seem right:

Arctic boy is in the cold, 14 degrees Fahrenheit, playing with a balloon.
Skate-boy is not so cold at 32 degrees, and his pond is melting and freezing at the same time, and he’s got a larger balloon.
Weenie roasting boy is on the beach, next to the ocean, and the temperature is a balmy 50 degrees F, and he’s got the biggest balloon of all.

There are more problems:

No female representation;
No multi-ethnic representation;
They all have balloons, an obvious elitist toy promulgated to instill waste, capitalist gluttony and greed to indoctrinate young students of physics. They’re probably metallic balloons, too, evil weapons designed by industrialists to damage the power infrastructure and enrich the utility companies at the expense of the proletariat.

Charles’ Law reads thus: Vi/Ti = VfTf

For reasons clearly explained above, Charles’ Law of Physics is inherently sexist, racist, xenophobic and probably has some vague connection to NeoNazis.

This Open Thread is for analysis of Charles’ Law and all of Charles’ Other Laws as well. Have at it.

They’re going to try to argue it’s not connected.

LEBANON, Va. — “That’s not change,” Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., said of what Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., is offering.

“You know, you can put lipstick on a pig,” Obama said, “but it’s still a pig.”
