Israeli warplanes struck Hezbollah targets in the Bekka valley today.
Israeli warplanes have struck Hezbollah targets near the Lebanese-Syria border, the Lebanese press reported late Monday evening.
The hits were reportedly near the Lebanese towns of Janta and Yahfoufa, and were carried out by multiple planes on multiple targets.
According to the Lebanese newspaper Daily Star, IAF jets flew two bombing sorties against a Hezbollah post in the Nabi Sheet area on the border between Lebanon.
Hezbollah has not even admitted they were attacked. They have their hands full fighting Nusra in Yabroud and will not retaliate.
For months many members of the Free Syrian Army and Nusra Front have alleged that the Islamic State of Iraq and ash-Sham (ISIS) was coopertaing with the Assad regime. In many battles, ISIS would just withdraw and leave the FSA and Nusra exposed. ISIS which evolved out of al-Qaeda in Iraq, was helped in its early days by the Assad regime. Last Spring, whne the rebels had the upper hand, ISIS appeared and tried to take over Nusra. AL-Qaeda central ordered them to back off and they disobeyed. Since then, al-Qaeda has disassociated with them.
Syrian opposition groups now present evidence that ISIS indeed cooperates with Assad. In fact some of its leaders are Syrian intelligence or military officers.
Syria’s main opposition group says it has found proof that al-Qaeda’s affiliate – the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, commonly known as ISIS — is jointly working with the government in Damascus to undermine rebel groups fighting to overthrow president Bashar al-Assad.
According to documents revealed by the Syrian National Coalition, several field commanders of the al-Qaeda affiliate were former military or intelligence officers of the Syrian army.
These commanders are coordinating military operations with the Assad’s forces, providing them with information about rebel fighters and facilitating the recapture of areas previously controlled by the rebel Free Syrian Army.
The opposition notes that Assad’s air force never targeted the usually conspicuous and large camps operated by ISIS in several parts of the country.
The Syrian soap opera continues.
In other news, ISIS has now created a Palestinian branch in Gaza called Al-Dawla al-Islam.
I wonder if the Nusa/al-Qaeda vs. ISIS fight will reach Gaza and what Hamas will do?
Nusra Front threatened several weeks ago that their agents were in Lebanon ready to strike Hezbollah targets. As we have seen the last month, Hezbollah targets have been struck. Now a group calling itself the Free Sunni Baalbek Brigade killed an Iranian trainer stationed at a Hezbollah camp.
The “Free Sunni Baalbek Brigade” announced on Friday killing an Iranian military trainer in the Bekaa region.
“We claim responsibility for a heroic operation that targeted a top Iranian military trainer on Thursday at a drill camp,” the brigade said on its Twitter account, noting that the operation’s name is “in the heart of the enemy.”
It added: “The attack was carried out at a Hizbullah controlled site in the Hermel plains (in the Bekaa).”
The operation created an atmosphere of panic and confusion among party members, the statement remarked.
“Hizbullah is trying to conceal what had happened.”
This has Nusra Front written all over it.
In other Syrian War news, the US accuses Iran of playing a double game in the Syrian War.
BEIRUT: Tehran is assisting Al-Qaeda operatives based in Iran to transfer Sunni fighters to Syria, the Obama administration charged Thursday.
The accusation, detailed in new sanctions imposed by the U.S. Treasury Department targeting Iranian terror links, suggests Iranian officials are backing opposing sides in the Syrian civil war.
Olimzhon Adkhamovich Sadikov, described by the Treasury Department as an Iran-based Islamic Jihad Union facilitator who “operates there with the knowledge of Iranian authorities,” was designated for providing logistical support and funding to Al-Qaeda’s Iran-based network.
This is very interesting.
