The Liberal Bet of 2010!

The Wall Street Journal ran a great editorial today about the thumping the Democrat Party took in the midterms, and where we stand for the future. As conservatives, we don’t agree about a lot of issues. But on the core issues, we are all pretty close. One of the core issues, and an easy one to rally on, would be America’s transformation to a European Socialist style state. I am willing to bet that we all feel that the Obamacare Law which was forced down our collective, (pun intended,) throats. You can read the entire editorial here.

Here are a few snippets which I felt appropriate for the discussion.

Democrats achieved 60 Senate votes by an historical accident of prosecutorial abuse (Ted Stevens), a stolen election (Al Franken) and a betrayal (Arlen Specter). They then attempted to do nearly everything we expected, regardless of public opinion, and they only stopped because the clock ran out.

The real story of 2010 is that the voters were finally able to see and judge this liberal agenda in its unvarnished form. For once, there was no Republican President to muddle the message or divide the accountability. The public was able to compare the promise of 8% unemployment if the government spent $812 billion on “stimulus” with the 9.8% jobless result. They stood athwart liberal history in the making and said, “Stop.”

Note, too, that the organized left and its media allies are also beginning to rewrite the story of the 111th Congress as an historical triumph. The same people who claimed that ObamaCare was a defeat because it lacked a public option are suddenly noting it will put 32 million more Americans on the government health-care dole. It won’t be long before liberals and the press are defending the 111th Congress’s every achievement as historic.

There is a lesson here both about modern liberalism and for Republicans who will soon have more power in Congress. For today’s left, the main goal of politics is not to respond to public opinion. The goal is to impose the dream of an egalitarian entitlement state whether the public likes it or not. Sooner or later, they figure, the anger will subside and Americans will come to like the cozy confines of the cradle-to-grave welfare state.

The lesson for Republicans is to understand the nature of their political opponents and this long-term bet. The GOP can achieve all kinds of victories in the next two years, and some of them will be important for economic growth. But the main chance is ObamaCare, which will fundamentally change the balance of power between government and individuals if it is not repealed or replaced.

While repeal will no doubt founder in the Senate in the next two years, Republicans can still use their House platform to frame the debate for 2012. They can hold hearings to educate the public about rising insurance costs and other nasty ObamaCare consequences. And they can use the power of the purse to undermine its implementation.

So there we are. The Democrats are very willing and able to take a long term approach to this. We need to be in this fight for the long haul, and avoid allowing ourselves the luxury of becoming discouraged. One of the things I have read and heard from my fellow conservatives is that we will be just as quick to fire the current GOP members as we were the 94 class. When we see Rinos, we turn red with anger. A lot of people refused to vote for Bush 41 because of his capitulation. The result was 8 years of a Clinton Presidency, putting teeth into the Community Reinvestment Act, and the current financial crisis. My fellow conservatives correctly identified John McCain as a Rino, and the result was Barak Obama being elected President and more economic and foreign policy damage than Carter and Clinton combined.

Get ready for my point. Tread lightly on the anger during the next 4 years. The stakes are somewhat larger now. I am not willing to say that lessons should not be given to the dolts who seek to be rulers rather than voices of the governed, just that we should weigh the decisions to teach those lessons more carefully. We can not afford to ever allow these progressives to have the unchecked ability to assault our freedoms again.

Heh. Heheh. Heheheh. Heheheheh. Heheheheheh.

Once again, by special dispensation from the admins, a “Nancy” thread is allowed to be featured here. Only in this case, the “Nancy” isn’t about the Nancy, but about one of his most trusted and admired cultists – the amazing LudwigVanQuixote.

So what’s Ludwig gotten himself into now? Heh. Those of you who have been following Diaries of Daedalus know, but for everyone else, well, Ludwig decided to go play Rabbi. Ok, nothing new about that. Except that he, well, decided to play Rabbi with a group of real Yeshiva students. Over at DoD, a little bird by the name of Fiddler on the Hoof dropped this link with the whole gut-bustingly funny thread. This resulted in this thread at DoD.

It didn’t end well. He was – how should I say? – handed his tuchus stuffed with matzoh balls. He didn’t return to the forum. So you’d think he’d learned his lesson and decided not to try to go to a gun fight with a paddle ball.

If you thought so, wrong-o. Instead, he retreats to his little green cave, and churns out his strangest piece of writing to date. Superficially, it seems to have something to do with Fox News, Glenn Beck and Nazis (who else?). But he tears off into a sub-rant about ignorant anti-science “frummies”, clearly aimed at the Orthodox Jews who weren’t having any of it.

If I can briefly paraphrase the whole diatribe:

1. Glenn Beck criticized George Soros, therefore he’s a Nazi.
2. Go look at some real Nazi propaganda, and see for yourself that it’s the exact same thing that Beck was saying.
3. Beck is also a Nazi, because he’s anti-science, and so were the Nazis (???)
4. Further proof of Beck’s Nazism is his denial of AGW.
5. The essence of Nazism is populist rage fueled by Nativism
6. Teabags are Nazis
7. Therefore Glenn Beck is preaching the Protocols of the Edlers of Zion
8. Ludwig von Mises is a Nazi (???)
9. The Frum Jews are too stupid to get out of bed in the morning because they don’t watch TV.
10. Because they don’t watch TV, they’re Glenn Beck robots. (???)
11. The GOP is full of Nazis who dress up in SS uniforms.
12. We need to be terrified of the rage of the teabags. Can’t you hear the boots?

Commentary is pointless. It quacks for itself. I’ve already made it clear that I believe that if this quack is a scientist, Chuck Johnson is a ballerina. But I didn’t feel qualified to touch the religion thing. The Yeshiva students went there. Resoundingly.

Seems like Ludwig would do well to consider a corollary of one of his blogmeister’s sayings: When you hit bottom, it’s probably not a good idea to keep on digging.

I think we can expect the mother of all angry tirades against us stalker Nazis shortly.

Progressives count on the Obama Boom for 2012 and update on 9/11 Ground Zero Mosque

Anytime there is a  positive sign from the economy the Progressive media complex proclaims the economy booming. Any slight improvement is heralded and trumped up as signs that we are roaring. The Obama Boom, as it was dubbed by Newsweek, is in reality an anemic economy weighed down by debt. It doesn’t matter to the Left. They redefine the meaning of boom as they see fit. An example was in 2005 when the economy was adding 150,000-200,000 jobs a month (which to be fair was sub-par compared to the job growth in the 80’s and 90’s), they claimed was anemic and signs of a stagnant economy. Now when there are 70,000-150,000 jobs  a month created, Progressives call it impressive jobs creation. In the ultimate example of how the Left will manipulate data, an Economist from the Tranzi elitist school of Yale says his model shows an Obama win in 2012, due to a booming economy.

THINGS are looking up for Barack Obama.

You might not think so, given the flow of news lately. His foreign policy has met with limited success, at best. And, back home, unemployment is mired at 9.6 percent. Earlier this month, in a major political blow, Democrats lost more than 60 seats and control of the House of Representatives.

So what is there for Mr. Obama and his supporters to cheer about?

Try this: Based on the facts at hand right now, Mr. Obama is likely to win the 2012 election in a landslide. That, at least, is the prediction of Ray C. Fair, a Yale economist and an expert on econometrics and on the relationship of economics and politics.

Don’t underestimate the Obama Boom theme the media will be pushing hard. Just as they convinced Americans in 2005 the economy was stagnant, they can convince many that the economy is roaring now. Any growth rate of over 2.5% will be declared solid growth and sold to the American people as such. Progressives have the media, entertainment industry and academia. This is a powerful propaganda machine and one that can’t be underestimated. The fact that Barack Hussein Obama is continuing on and not doing a Clinton move to the center but sticking with Far Left policies shows they are confident in his re-election.

Many Conservatives feel 2012 will be a slam dunk, but they are deluding themselves. Progressives have a natural advantage that showed in the last election. Barack Hussein Obama’s appearance on the Daily Show, the fear mongering of the Black Nationalists in that community, the mobilization of Union GOTV efforts, fraud and the media’s non stop attacks on the Tea Party prevented the loss of 15 House Seats and 4 Senate seats. This in a year when the GOP led by double digits. That’s why it’s crucial that the 2012 nominee is a candidate in the Marco Rubio/Chris Cristie mold, Someone who can appeal to the Conservative base AND Independents. If the Republicans nominate someone in the mold of Sharron Angle (Democratic Plant and future Las Vegas hotel greeter), or Christine O’Donnell (nice woman but way out of her league), they are toast against this machine. The right Republican can win, but it will be tough!

Progressives in denial

The Progressive movement is acting as if November 2nd elections didn’t occur. They are pushing to pass Leftist policies like the Dream Act and DADT, that were rejected by the voters.  John Podesta head of the Fascistic Center for American Progress is calling for to bypass Congress and govern by executive order, the Constitution be damned! The Democrats in congress re-elected Tranzi Totalitarian radical Nancy Pelosi to lead them in the minority status. Harry Reid feel empowered after defeating the pathetic and his hand picked opponent Sharon Angle, who will soon be some Casino greater in Vegas. The Left claims they lost the election because they didn’t get their message out, a total lie since they control the media. Their latest spin if that the message of the election was they want the voters to work together. This is hogwash and it shows the state of denial the Progressives are in about the public and the rejection of their radical agenda.

Pick your favorite: “Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.” Or, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.”

Either way, the wisdom is wasted on President Obama and congressional Democrats. They learned nothing from the historic shellacking voters gave them.

[….]

Ridiculed for first claiming they lost because of a failure to communicate, Dems have a new talking point. Call it the failure equivalence theory.

Voters don’t “have a lot of faith in the Republican Party and they don’t have a lot of faith in the Democratic Party,” Vice President Joe Biden now says. “And so they’re saying, ‘OK, we want you guys to work together.’ “

This shows the Neo-Feudal attitude of the Progressive movement. They feel that because they went to elite Ivy League schools and that they were born with silver spoons in their mouth, that it’s the right to rule. Leftists feel they have a right to reorder society and treat the American public as pawns for their wacky social experiments. Even after being rejected by the public, they continue with their elitist agenda. Clearly Progressives are not grounded in reality and this makes them dangerous and why they must be defeated.
