Aznar says UN recognition of Palestinian state would be a mistake

Former Spanish PM Jose Maria Aznar of the Rightwing Partido Popular writes a great essay. He calls any UN recognition of a Palestinian state  mistake, that will not lead towards. Aznar rightfully points out the Palestinians don’t want peace for Israel. They now include Hamas in their government, which indicates their true intentions.

The unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state, and its international recognition, would be a huge mistake. A peace agreement between Israelis and Palestinians is essential, but it can only be achieved through honest negotiations –not by any party imposing a unilateral decision.

Over the past two years, the Palestinian Authority has refused to sit at the negotiating table with the Israeli government, hiding behind the excuse of Israeli construction work on a few West Bank settlements. At the same time, however, it has been negotiating the creation of a national unity government with Hamas, a terrorist group whose stated aim is the elimination of Israel.

A Palestinian “government” of a unilaterally established, self-declared “Palestinian state,” in which Hamas is a member of the governing coalition, will make negotiations, much less a peace agreement, impossible: no negotiation is possible, and no agreement is possible, when one side is committed to the other’s destruction.

Jose Maria Aznar understands the situation better than most Western leaders. The Palestinians and Arabs don’t want peace with Israel. A UN recognition is a reward for terror. It’s a shame we don’t have more Aznars as leaders in the western world.

Our Standing On The World Stage: Has Cliche Passed The Test As A Viable Policy Agenda?

Hat tip NoThreat2U

Here is something you would not expect to see written about a county with a leader, also called the President, claiming that financial Armageddon awaits, should they fail to expand their debt beyond $14 Trillion.  Yet there we are, a scant one day past Barack Obama’s holier than thou speech in which he gave one of his famous tongue lashings to the GOP Leadership.  He told us all, like we did not know without his help, valuable as it is, that our problems were serious.  He complained that we were trying to politicize the problem by not just acceding to his view of what should be done.  He told us in a somewhat sarcastic manner that we should, “Eat our peas.”  Then, a friend posted this little gem referenced in the link above.

The U. S. State Department yesterday announced that the Obama Administration has agreed to contribute $4 billion to the United Nations Global Fund to fight AIDs, Tuberculosis, and Malaria from 2011 to 2013.
The $4 billion represents a 38% increase over the previous U.S. commitment to the fund.

This means that over one-third of the money will come from the pockets of US taxpayers.

In addition to the annual gift of $1.33 billion to the Global Fund, President Obama has agreed to provide billions more for UN projects. These allocations are set forth in a 28 page document as follows:

  • Funnel $63 billion to the Global Health Initiative during the next six years
  • Make $1 billion annually to education programs
  • Give $475 million to the Global Agricultural and Food Security Program’
  • Provide $800 million from the Overseas Private Investment Corporation to Muslim-majority countries in the Middle East and North Africa. An additional $3.2 billion will be provided by private equity capital sources to these Muslim nations
  • Shell out millions more available through USAID for developing tech hubs in Uganda, Kenya, Cameroon, South Africa, and Senegal.
  • Dole out $80 million through the Overseas Private Investment Corporation for small to medium enterprises in the Middle East and North Africa.
  • Cough up $2.5 billion annually to 90 countries to “strengthen governance and democratic institutions.”
  • Make available $30 billion through the Obama’s Climate Change Initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, $100 billion a year will be provided through taxpayer and private resources to deal with the alleged threat of global climate change.

The United States is assessed at 22% of the U.N. regular budget and more than 27% for U.N. the peacekeeping budget. Mr. Obama has requested $516.3 million for the U.N. regular budget and more than $2.182 billion for the peacekeeping budget for 2011.

The United States also provides money to the U.N. through the State Department, Department of Agriculture, Department of Energy, Department of Health and Human Services, and other agencies.

Putting aside for the moment the entire argument about the value of the U.N., (we’ll get back to that soon enough,) is this pledge for increasing our funding of this organization by an amount that is no where near the neighborhood of negligible, what a sane leader of a nation on the brink of financial collapse would be doing?  An open question for President Obama, or one of his supporters:  What is the truth here?  Ar we facing the end of our fiscal lives as we have known it, or do we still in fact have money to throw away on an organization which has never fed any hungry children, cured or even treated any disease or affliction anywhere on the planet, or even succeeded in preventing a single hostility anywhere on the globe?   I personally do not like being talked to like I am Five years old.  I especially do not like to be lectured by the likes of an arrogant, vacuous ass.  This man who administered the tongue lashing from the press room in the White House is the least qualified person in any room he enters.  He, and his party during their Four years in control have failed to pass a single budget, or even for that matter present one for consideration.  When the President’s party controlled the White House and both chambers of the Legislative body, they did not even bother with a budget.  The only possible reason to avoid it then was that they feared the political repercussions of their voters should anyone realize what on Earth they were up to.  So, Let’s do a little basic math here.  Let us pretend for a moment that Barack Obama gets his, “Airplane loophole,” closed.  Let us further pretend for the moment that nobody alters their behavior as a result of the new tax.  If we went back in time to the birth of Jesus, (apologies to my Christian friends, but I felt a reference point people could identify with was in order,) and instituted this tax with today’s airplane flying jet set, we could have by now covered one half of one year’s Obama shortfall.

We do not have a revenue problem.  These piggies should be able to get by on $2.5 Trillion.  We have a spending problem, which apparently Obama is clueless about, since he just committed $.1 Trillion per year more to the U.N., all of it by the way, money we do not have.

Now, on to that U.N. discussion. Our Jizya paid to the U.N. represents about a quarter of the Organization’s operating budget. The humanitarian aid stations and hospitals established in the Congo actually became the largest houses of ill repute in the world and served as a jumping off point for thousands of young ladies sold into slavery. The money collected on behalf of UNICEF every year is in fact handed over blindly to Hamas and Fatah and used to build rockets and suicide vests and to fund the intifada. Libya, the place where we had to remove the thuggish dictator due to the generally rotten way he treated his own people was the head of the Human Rights Council. Iran, the place where women are stoned to death if they are caught speaking to a male who is not a family member is the head of the U.N. women’s rights council. Anywhere people are actually suffering at the hands of thuggish despots, you can count on the U.N. to be silent, (Sudan, and Tibet.) Anywhere a society is actually free and open, you can count on U.N. condemnation, (U.S. and Israel.) We should be cutting our funding to the U.N. to a level commensurate with our population, and deduct our rent for prime NYC real estate to boot.

Now, for the next question, has the agenda by cliche worked?  During the campaign of 2008, we heard that we needed to address our standing in the world.  The rest of the world hated us, or so we were told.  Yesterday, I saw a picture on my T.V., which put that nonsense to rest, (for me at least anyhow, and probably for anyone who has at least one functioning brain cell as well.)

The image, is the new President of a brand new country, South Sudan, wearing a cowboy hat to honor George W. Bush. That right there should say it all. A new country formed as the result of someone who was hated by the U.N., in a place that caused much hand ringing and zero action by the same lefties who said they hated us, and the leader of that country gives credit to who, President Bush. Hillary’s reset button did nothing to help bring this about. In his speech, he mentioned President Obama exactly zero times. In Obama’s speech, in which he took credit for the new country, he gave no credit to Bush. Therefore, I believe the image, being worth a thousand words is worth another peek.

So, I guess the score stands at President Bush 50, smart diplomacy 0.

All We Really Ever Needed To Know About The U.N.

That man in the photo, is the President of the U.N. Human Rights Council.  Moamar Qaddafi, one of the most virulently thuggish dictators in the world today, is the U.N.’s chief guardian on Human Rights.  That’s right, the only leader of a nation alive today to be declared legally insane, found himself to be the darling of the United Nations.  Soak that in for a moment.

Now, this is not an essay designed to be about the revolution going on in his own country, but I will address at least a couple of points.  One, I wish both sides could lose this thing.  He was the worst kind of slime to be leading a nation.  He ordered the Lockerbie Bombing, the 1972 Munich Kidnappers found a safe haven in his country, he funds and exports terrorism, he brutally oppresses his own population, and he was friends with Billy Carter.  What is about to replace him will make him look saintly.  It will be the Muslim Brotherhood.  Remember that grandfatherly figure, Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, the spiritual leader of the Brotherhood who just returned from exile to Egypt?  Well, as it turns out, this revolution in Libya was his doing.  Suddenly that Democratic Uprising in Egypt appears to be not so Democratic anymore.  The idiotic Google Executive who was at the forefront of the goings on in Egypt, he has already been chased out of that country, replaced by Brotherhood thugs.

This essay is more about what a useless organization the U.N. has become.  How does a legally insane oppressive thug become head of the 47 nations charged with protecting human rights?  How does that organization then bear its weight upon the world’s democracies?  How is it that the most free nation on Earth would allow itself to be the subject of pointed inspections of this group of thugs and capitulate to its demands?   The answers are in the convergence of liberalism which has swept the world for the last 30 years.  The left invariably will end up supporting the very thuggish dictatorships they claim to hate.  This is the only logical conclusion by which they can operate.  Once there, we see some spectacular logical acrobatics as to why they are justified.  The U.N. is the perfect example of leftist politics run amok.  Learn from this example, as this is the direction of our nation and indeed the globe should we not fight back beginning now.

Evan Sayet says it so much better than I could.  It’s an hour, but well worth it.

I would also like to note here, our current President wants to turn our foreign policy direction over to these same thugs running the U.N. That is what Obama meant by smart diplomacy and improving our standing in the world. He wants to increase our funding of this group of criminals and allow them the power to tax us as a member of a larger world government. How on Earth can the Democrats among you still support this imbecile who currently occupies the White House? November of 2012 is sure taking its sweet old time.

UPDATE:  It would appear as though the UNHRC no longer feels that Qaddafi is the best face to put on their image.  This changes nothing however, as the head scratcher is that he ever was considered the best face to be associated with their image.

Obama's 3AM Phone Call : Dry Bones cartoon.

Crossposted at Musings of a Mad Conservative

As a conservative person of the Jewish faith, I find myself quite often in the minority opinion amongst friends.  Discussions are purposefully steered away from all things political, quite honestly because neither side can understand the other’s inability to see clearly what each knows to be true.  The truce has kept a tentative peace for several years now, but just like any border dispute, sometimes the tensions are palpable.  During the last 3 election cycles, those tensions have become more visible, and have bubbled closer to the surface.  With each news day, I see something which makes me say, this event  is the event which will make them see.  I am certain that the other side notices some other news item which they feel should make me see.

Examples, I once received an e-mail from friends which claimed that President Bush did not have any people of the Jewish faith working in his Administration, (obviously Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Joel Kaplan, Scooter Libby, Elliot Abrams, Josh Bolton, Michael Chertoff, Ari Fleisher, or Douglas Feith did not come to the author’s mind, and all were high ranking members of the Administration at the time.  This list is not all inclusive, it merely serves to highlight the larger point of perception not matching reality.)  I forwarded an editorial on Jimmy Carter’s slanderous book, “Peace, Not Apartheid.”  It was pointed out to me that Prescott Bush’s leanings were somewhat anti-Semitic, and we don’t even need to mention Pat Buchanan.  Yassar Arafat was the most oft visitor to the White House during the Clinton Presidency.  This literally could go on for quite a while, but is this the end of the debate?

What is more important, personal feelings held, or the results and actions taken?  Richard Nixon was perhaps the single most bigoted and anti-Semitic President to ever grace the White House.  Everyone who worked with Nixon has confirmed this.  His close personal friends have confirmed this.  Yet, when it really counted, Nixon was the first President to formally declare Israel an ally.  Nixon was the first President to declare our unwavering support for Israel, and to offer U.S. weapons in trade.  (Prior to Nixon, Israel bought all of her weapons from France, my how times have changed.)  My point here, is that sometimes, people do the right thing, despite the charges of bigotry and racism we attribute to them.  Don’t forget, Nixon followed Kennedy and Johnson into that office.  Both of those men were considered to be more tolerant  and enlightened souls who loved the Jewish people.  (Johnson actually ordered/or may not have ordered a U.S. Naval Ship under the command of the NSA to take up a position with the invading Arab Naval Force during the 6 Day War.  The Liberty Incident has been the subject of no less than 11 Congressional and Defense Department Investigations since.  Captain McGonagle was awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor, but he finished his career from behind a desk in the Pentagon shortly afterwards.)  The point being, neither Kennedy nor Johnson saw fit to consider Israel a friend, and Nixon did.

What does that have to do with today?  Glad you asked.  Sometime in the very near future, President Barak Obama will have a huge decision to make.  It seems that the U.N., one of the most vile and evil institutions on Earth, will be attempting to pass a resolution through the Security Council, which will be designed to stop Israel from building apartments in Jerusalem.  The apartments are in a Jewish neighborhood, which has been a Jewish neighborhood for the last 4000 years.  As with any city, stopping construction, building permits and growth, is the same thing as destroying the economy, and the well being of the entire city.  Think of your own town, construction going on is a good sign, it means that employment is growing, business is booming, things are good.  Turn the big machines off, and the entire economy stagnates, and those Saturday coffee meetings with friends are a lot less fun to be around.  This resolution is designed to dispirit the Jewish people, and to stagnate the economy.  The question we are all waiting to see, is will President Obama Veto the resolution.

If Barak Obama fails to veto the resolution, he would be the first American President to fail to protect Israel against the Arab controlled U.N.  That would put our President in elite company indeed.  He would be in a fraternity of 1.  It is actually a little scary to think that this would even be a question.  This should be a no-brainer.  I would expect our President to not only say, Israel enjoys the full support of the American People, but that he would actually back it up with action.  Push is coming to shove, and it is doing so on Barak Obama’s watch.  Will he do the right thing?  For my liberal friends, I want you to watch this one closely.  This is the one event I was talking about in the beginning of this post.

As a side note, Security Council Resolutions come with teeth.  These are the ones which approve usually some sort of punitive or military action.

UPDATE:  Jennifer Rubin of the Washington Post seems to think President Obama will do the right thing. I hope her analysis is correct.  We need him to get this one right.
