Aretha Franklin Is “Gravely Ill”, and The Repose of Iron Fist

by coldwarrior ( 114 Comments › )

This is going to be a huge loss.

This is exclusive, and heart breaking for me and for the family and friends of the great Aretha Franklin. She is gravely ill in Detroit. The family is asking for prayers and privacy.

Originally diagnosed with cancer in 2010, Aretha, who turned 76 in March, bravely battled back and refused to be knocked out by illness. Her last performance as on November 2, 2017 for the Elton John AIDS Foundation in New York. Her final public performance was at Philadelphia’s Mann Center in August 2017. It was a miraculous show as Aretha was already then fighting exhaustion and dehydration.

Aretha is surrounded by family and people close to her. She will be so missed as a mother, sister, friend, cousin. But her legacy is larger than life. It’s not just that Rolling Stone called her the number 1 singer of all time, or that she is the Queen of Soul. Long live the Queen.

More to come…

I grew up on her and the rest of Motown, my parents had all the vinyl and played it when the mood was good and happy…It’s gonna be a sad day.

And, of most importance, we lost Iron Fist two years ago this night…what would he say now?

ill be posting more as my new gig pays nicely. wont have to work as many days. gotta clear some debt and get ready to add on to the house. my contractor neighbor and i have been mulling size and scope, should be two rooms, kitchen below and bedroom above, 28 by 20 each with basement/garage underneath..1200 square feet in total on the living floors.

i’ve drawn up the kitchen to my specs. Escoffier would be proud.

we need more room. the house is on a great piece of property overlooking the ohio river. the view is worth the expansion. i cant not have it, so moving is not an option. i have to have my train set, the barges, and the lights from the towns at night.

the only way o would move is to go to where we vacation bay side in NJ…250k gets us there. maybe later on…

She’s ready, but is afraid to leave home. Her science grades are 4.0 and overall GPA is 3.5 so it should be easy to get into any nursing school.

As instructed by “She who WILL be obeyed” I checked out that Corpus Christi School of Nursing.

It meets with my approval, there is an Indian restaurant six miles from the campus.

    https://www.facebook.com/RoyalIndiaCC/

Also, it is only 200 miles from me, about 3 hours, so if I left home at 9am I could have lunch with my friend and still be back home before dark.

So, I approve of this choice of learning institution.

However, that Indian resturant is bloody expensive as compared to our one in little old Houston town.

Plain Tandoori Naan $3 in Corpus Christi, $1.50 Houston

Chicken Tikka Masala $15.99 in CC, $8.99 Houston

Shrimp Biryani $20.39 in CC, $10.99 Houston

I wonder what the general cost of living in CC is as opposed to Houston.

Just a thought, I only compared two restaurants and it is double in Corpus Christi.

So, I just checked on the subwoofer I ordered for my Mountaineer. This is what UPS shows:

    Monday, August 13
    6:43 PM
Package arrived at a carrier facility
    Albuquerque, NM US

    6:18 PM
Package has left the carrier facility
    Albuquerque, NM US

    5:35 PM
Package arrived at a carrier facility
    Albuquerque, NM US

    5:15 PM
Package has left the carrier facility
    Albuquerque, NM US

    5:00 PM
Package arrived at a carrier facility
    Albuquerque, NM US

Either it keeps escaping and they keep recapturing it and bringing it back, or the world’s worst UPS driver is bringing it here.

    @ lobo91:

i know what that is. if you read it from bottom to top its a destination scan into the facility, then it got sorted wrongly to the outbound trailer where it was caught by a scan from the loader, then it went to QC where the label and the addy were rechecked, the 618 scan makes no sense, then the 643 scan places is back into the sort. now, if this is a smartpost package the “Package arrived at a carrier facility” could be the scan to get it to the post office, but since its a heavy, i’m gonna bet it comes via ups and that there is extra writing on the box from QC to fix the error.

this arrived via trailer and went to the belts on the outbound sort, outbound gets all of the packages from the terminal into the ups system and on to the hubs. in that sort are packages that stay in the terminal as well and are all collected up into a trailer for hold until the inbound/pre-load early AM shift where the package cars are loaded for the day. on that shift, the ‘local’ trailer that never leaves the load door is unloaded and the boxes go to the package cars for delivery.

    simple!

    😆

Salena Zito has an interesting piece from Cannonsburg PA (that’s a south hills burg of Pittsburgh for all you non-yinzers, just down Rt 19 from Mt Lebo and Upper St Clair)

Fracking, it turns out, is the one high-tech industry not embraced by politicians in Pittsburgh who are rushing to embrace the likes of Uber and Google

Why? Because local progressive Democrats, very vocal climate activists, and the burgeoning Democratic Socialists of America party demand a wholesale repudiation of the natural gas industry. Local Democratic officials thus have to oppose fracking or risk losing in a Democratic primary.

Because Dems ARE the dumbest knives in the drawer. If they’re even in the drawer. I’m not sure anymore.

Waiting to see what Judge Ellis does today.
From what I gather, there is a sealed motion and sealed reply before him. I’m assuming that might be the Rule 29 motion for an acquittal.

Manafort should have asked for a bench trial. I think Ellis would NOT have convicted him based on the evidence so far.

A very neat, clear piece on why the story of a great Chinese economy HAS to be bullpucky.

The most egregious flaw in China’s statistics is the savings rate. For decades we have been told that the Chinese people are extraordinary savers, with a savings rate of some 46% of GDP, according to the latest figures, compared with around 6.8% of GDP (Itself a figure recently and dubiously inflated by the Bureau of Economic Analysis) in the United States. Touchingly sentimental pictures are painted of the noble impoverished Chinese, earning one fiftieth of a Western wage but nevertheless saving nearly half of that pittance, seven times the American rate of saving, because of the country’s notorious lack of social services for the elderly.

If China really had a savings rate of 46%, the economy would look quite different. There would be very little debt in the system; the banks would have a very low loans to deposits ratio and low leverage, like banks in nineteenth century Britain. Consumer debt would be almost non-existent, while the Chinese market would have an enormous variety of saving and investment schemes, to take care of all the accumulated wealth. New company formation would be very high, but “venture capital” would be very scarce, because new companies would be capitalized from the savings of the founders’ relatives and friends. Overall, China might well have a rapid growth rate, but it would be a very contented, stable economy.

A recent Financial Times examination of China’s economy illustrates the problem; it shows consumer debt almost doubling as a share of GDP, from roughly 20% to 40% in the last five years

    doubled in five years? yowza.

    oh HAAII!!

I heard a lawyer yesterday say that these sealed motion things happen all the time. I don’t think Ellis is going to let Manafort walk. I think he’s going to trust to the jury to acquit him because if Ellis does it, there will always be a cloud over his head about a ‘judge in his pocket’ or something. Ellis obviously despises the prosecutors, but that doesn’t mean there’s any love lost for Manafort.

Hi back! I have trouble getting this site on my iPad – been busy with the new granddaughter – and desperately trying to sleep.

That’s a good point – Mueller’s already filed a complaint about the judge. I think Ellis DID see something in that charging memo that’s made him annoyed but he can’t say anything because “classified.” I’ve heard the defense is planning to call either the FBI agent or the AUSA that declined to prosecute Manafort after the original investigation. And I hope he hammers home the number of people who were granted IMMUNITY just to testify in this trial.

I still maintain Mueller got caught with his pants down on this one. I’m sure he never believed that this would ever make it as far as opening statements, believing Manafort would turn on Trump. The problem for Mueller, of course, is that there is NOTHING for these people to give him because there was no collusion.

But I would not put it past Mueller to suborn perjury – he’s done it before. The left is dancing about the “indictments” and the “guilty pleas” and the “trials” – but where is the collusion? (Which isn’t even a crime).

I would seriously like to dropkick Rosenweasel over the Washington Monument; that little snake in the grass is behind all of this.

I find it interesting that both McCabe and Strzok have turned to “GoFundMe” as a source of income. I mean, since when do fired and literally disgraced public servants then turn to crowdfunding when their reputation is in tatters?

Which makes my little conspiratorial mind wander…..GoFundMe allows for “Anonymous” donations, which means that it could definitely be used as a Laundromat for a payoff. Small donations – $500 every four hours from differing Anonymous sources, let’s say….and soon Strzok has real money. And none of it traceable back to the people who are paying him off….for keeping the Clintons safe.

As for the Manafort defense not calling witnesses – yep. Who ya gonna call? As far as I can tell, the prosecution witnesses were pretty much butchered and ended up doing nothing but making Manafort look like a small fish in a big pond, Ellis made it clear he thinks the prosecution sucks canal water. There have been many reports on FBI and other agency agents and employees that have been wanting to appear before Congress to testify about what they knew was going on regarding this entire Russia investigation and frame up of Trump. But the agency management has refused to let them appear or Congress hasn’t called them.

It would not surprise me in the least if those same agents didn’t meet with someone from the Trump Administration and give them some sort of documentary or other evidence of the real source of the COLLUSION in the campaign.

This is a really good article on John Correia. I didn’t know he has youtube videos showing real life situations and how to defend against them

“Every situation is a snowflake,” he says. “But the same principles show up again and again. All I do is to teach people and give them a vocabulary for what to do.” In Correia’s most popular video, which is from Venezuela, an armed robber approaches his victim, an off-duty cop, in an ATM line. After dropping his wallet and necklace on the ground, the cop falls back, lets the mugger stoop to pick up the loot, and takes advantage of his distraction to draw a pistol and shoot the criminal four times. There are “some significant lessons here,” Correia says.

    ya think?
