This sounds straight out of the old X-File series. The FBI has released a 1949 document of a UFO sighting over Utah. 3 men from different locations witnessed a UFO crashing.

A 60-year-old UFO story from Northern Utah is making world news after the unveiling of a new FBI online database that opens up thousands of declassified documents.

[….]

Addressed to FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, the information states that on April 5, 1949, a Logan police officer, a Utah Highway Patrol trooper in Mantua and an Army Supply Depot guard in Ogden all observed flashes of light followed by an aerial explosion and a falling silver object.

The depot guard said he saw “an explosion in the air accompanied by a flash of light followed by the falling of a silver colored object.”

The police officer reported seeing two puffs of smoke high in the air west of Logan also followed by a falling silver object.

“Also at about the same time (a) Utah Highway Patrolman at Mantua, Utah, saw a silver colored object high up approaching the mountains at Sardine Canyon between Logan and Brigham City,” the document reads. “As (the) object neared the mountain it appeared to explode in a flash of fire.”

The FBI said residents in Trenton also reported seeing explosions in the sky followed by falling objects.

3 people from different locations clearly rules out a hoax. The official explanation that it was  a bombing run. Another explanation was that it was a meteor. My personal take on modern day UFO  sightings is that they are usually some kind of military experiment. The stories about aliens and UFOs are just disinformation to throw off our foreign adversaries on new weapon systems. That said there are some sighting that are clearly unexplained and who knows what they can be!

The UFO mystery continues!
