Bachmann’s Medical Condition

These sound like stress induced migraines. If they are, and she is ‘incapacitated’ on average once a week then she is not fit, literally, to be president.

She need to get way out ahead of this and level with the voters. This is of paramount importance. Conspiracy to ruin her candidacy  or ‘what about Obamam’s medical records’ do not matter here. This is serious, folks. Very very serious.

The Minnesota Republican frequently suffers from stress-induced medical episodes that she has characterized as severe headaches. These episodes, say witnesses, occur once a week on average and can “incapacitate” her for days at time. On at least three occasions, Bachmann has landed in the hospital as a result.

“She has terrible migraine headaches. And they put her out of commission for a day or more at a time. They come out of nowhere, and they’re unpredictable,” says an adviser to Bachmann who was involved in her 2010 congressional campaign. “They level her. They put her down. It’s actually sad. It’s very painful.”Bachmann’s medical condition wouldn’t merit public attention, but for the fact she is running for president. Some close to Bachmann fear she won’t be equal to the stress of the campaign, much less the presidency itself.

“When she gets ‘em, frankly, she can’t function at all. It’s not like a little thing with a couple Advils. It’s bad,” the adviser says. “The migraines are so bad and so intense, she carries and takes all sorts of pills. Prevention pills. Pills during the migraine. Pills after the migraine, to keep them under control. She has to take these pills wherever she goes.”

Essential VDH: The Global spread the wealth mentality

Whether its riots in Anthens or Obama’s 3rd World style demagoguery, the western world is in the grip of madness. This lunacy is called economic fairness or “spreading the wealth”. Generations of Westerners have been raise on the Progressive concept of equal outcome. This mentality has lead many European nations and the US to our current debt crisis. The public always wants more and is envious of those who have it. Rather than create pro-growth policies, politicians divide the pie. Well now the bill is coming due and too many people refuse to deal with reality.

Whether in the fights over the U.S. debt limit or the rioting in Athens, the common global theme is not poverty in absolute terms, but more often fairness — as in having about the same amount of things as others do.

Here in America, the months-long impasse over the national-debt ceiling continues. President Bush borrowed nearly $5 trillion in eight years. But President Obama easily trumped even that staggering figure with his plan to borrow over $6 trillion in his first four years in office. The architects of his economic policy — Austan Goolsbee, Peter Orszag, Christina Romer, and Larry Summers — have all resigned, and are now either back in tenured academia, making lots of money in the much-criticized revolving door, or writing op-eds about why the president’s plan isn’t working — or all three.

Now Obama is demanding higher taxes to prevent a government default — apparently on the logic that everything he did with his previously borrowed $5 trillion was vital to the republic and all elements of it must remain unquestioned.

[…]

Abroad, the Greeks are still demonstrating, and occasionally rioting, over new austerity measures, angry that their northern-European creditors insist on having their $180 billion paid back, with interest.

Victor David Hanson nailes it yet again. Many people view the governmnet as the means to get money. They believe that rather than accumulate wealth on their own, the governmnet owes them. This explains the resistance many have to making the hard choices to retsore fiscal sanity, which in turn leads to economic growth.

As Obama said to Joe the plumber, it’s about spreading the wealth. The correct attitude should be to foster wealth creation.

Israeli navy intercepts a French-flagged ship headed for Gaza

I wish they would sink the ship and send all the left-wing scum into Gaza.

Israeli naval vessels on Tuesday seized a French-flagged protest boat with 16 pro-Palestinian passengers as it attempted to break through Israel’s sea blockade of the Gaza Strip.

Israeli officials said the takeover occurred without the kind violence and bloodshed that erupted more than a year ago, when nine Turkish activists on a similar protest flotilla were shot and killed by Israeli commandos who came under attack by passengers as they dropped onto the vessel from military helicopters.

The latest protest ship, called Dignity-Al Karama, was rerouted to Israel’s Ashdod port, where passengers and crew were detained. Israel vowed to transfer any humanitarian supplies carried by the ship to Gaza by land, but passengers told Israeli soldiers in a radio communication that they had no cargo.

“As long as the Palestinians will not have their freedom of movement and exchange, particularly between the West Bank and Gaza, we will continue our campaigns and nonviolent actions to lift the blockade of Gaza,” read a statement Tuesday from flotilla organizers.

The French yacht included citizens from several European nations and two Israelis, including a journalist from Haaretz newspaper. Passengers could not be reached for comment and telephone and Internet service was blocked by Israel.

The boat is the last remnant of a much-larger flotilla that got underway several months ago, including 15 boats and as many as 1,500 activists, including Americans.

But the flotilla largely ran aground in Greece, where the Greek government — at the behest of Israel — prevented boats from leaving its ports and intercepted one ship that attempted to sail away without permission.

Flotilla organizers also accused Israel of secretly sabotaging two vessels.

Most activists gave up and flew to their home countries. But on Sunday, Dignity passengers left Greece by declaring they were heading toward Alexendria, Egypt. In route, the captain changed directions and headed to Gaza.

There’s a Russian holiday for veterans of the Frontier Guard. English Russia describes it thusly:

On the 28th of May Russian frontier guards traditionally celebrate their holiday. On this occasion soldiers and officers, former or not, jump into fountains, dance, sing military songs, generally speaking they enjoy themselves in a civilized manner…but not always.

Seems like the appropriate thing to do during any heatwave, unless of course there’s something even cooler than that, i.e., The Overnight Open Thread.
