As 1/3 owner of the blog there have been some observations I have made lately. People are getting touchy on the blog. It’s in the nature of blogging that there will be debate and disagreement, but why this level of nastiness?
Most people are ideologically very close on the blog. I’m probably the one who’s ideologically out of synch on this blog since I’m Libertarian leaning Conservative as opposed to Social Conservative. I miss the GOP of the 1980’s, which was focused on economic growth, taking on Communism and was optimistic about the future. I feel today’s GOP is very negative and focuses on holding onto the past. That said I view Social Conservatives as my allies in the struggle against Progressivism, despite disagreements over government priorities. My 80% ally is not my 20% enemy. This is the attitude people should have.
Another observation I made is that certain political figures are not allowed to be criticize on this blog. Rather than read out the criticism and answer according in the defense of these public figures, an attempt to silence the critic is made. I really don’t understand that. This mentality is causing defacto censorship. None of these public figures are divine or above criticism, they are all fair game. If one feels a public figure they like are being attacked unfairly, point out what’s wrong with the criticism. Attacking the the critic only hardens their view and causes unneeded animosity. It also makes writers of this blog hesitant to do posts. This is not healthy for a blog.
This is a group blog and I want all to be able to come here and not feel they are walking on eggshells. Let’s debate, even disagree and have fun doing it. Let’s enjoy our time on this blog and try to avoid personal insults.
In the words of a wise-man:
Why take this blog so serious? Have fun around here.
