Yep, that’s a nice quiet little village in the UK, except for one problem.
It’s 38 square miles in the middle of nowhere.
No, it’s REALLY in the middle of nowhere. Here’s an aerial view:

Click on that image and it’ll take you to Google Maps. Zoom out click-by-click for awesome.

Another problem is that the native population of Tristan da Cunha (±300) is anything but diverse. Due to it’s remote location (and the difficulty getting there – it has no airport – and the sea voyage takes a week) the genetics of the locals make them prone to asthma, glaucoma and other inherited maladies. Some have noted that over just a handful of generations the inhabitants tend to look a lot alike as well. Eventually it’ll become an island of twins/triplets/quadruplets, etc, all speaking a dialect of English that few may understand.

We may have posted about this mini paradise before, but so what. We always enjoy revisiting the cool and the awesome on The Overnight Open Thread.

Comments are the sole opinion of the comment writer, just as each thread posted is the sole opinion or post idea of the administrator that posted it or of the readers that have written guest posts for the Blogmocracy.

Obscene, abusive, or annoying remarks may be deleted or moved to spam for admin review, but the fact that particular comments remain on the site in no way constitutes an endorsement of their content by any other commenter or the admins of this Blogmocracy.

We're not easily offended and don't want people to think they have to walk on eggshells around here (like at another place that shall remain nameless) but of course, there is a limit to everything.

Play nice!
