This is a fun bit of history. How did such a ubiquitous and wondrous drug.
Some light reading.

The dates in this are odd – which doesn’t mean I’m disputing them.

I think I’ve told this story before, when the discussion has been about what people knew and didn’t know of Hitler’s intentions toward the Jews.

Dad said sometime during his senior year in high school – 1933 – they had a speaker address the class in the school auditorium. German or Austrian, Dad didn’t know if he was Jewish. But he was very clear about Hitler’s intentions, including the Jews, and said one way he intended to finance his war effort was thru controlling the supply of Aspirin. This was in a little town in Pennsylvania nobody has ever heard of, Vestaburg and dad said it was right before graduation, so, say, June. Hitler had finally taken over, when? March? January?

The doc linked to here says Hitler took over the production in 1938.

I don’t doubt either story but I sure wish Dad could have remembered that man’s name.

More about shipping – and one of the reasons I think 2Q is gonna get ugly

The Port of Los Angeles is the busiest container port in North America. 40 sailings have been cancelled from Feb. 11 through Apr. 1, about 25% of typical ship calls during this time, Port of LA Executive Director Gene Seroka says.

So I’m working on a schedule to go down to Knoxville to look at properties and asking our travel agent about flight schedules. She told me unless I want to make the arrangements myself, I should hurry up, she’s out of business in about a week.

    Everything has just stopped.

CW – maybe you can remember this because I certainly don’t.

I seem to recall there was a serious H1N1 pandemic in 2009. Obama pretty much did NOTHING until there was a high level of infection and scores and scores of deaths.

And even then, the countermeasures? We were told to wash our hands, use Purel, cover our mouths when we coughed and sneeze in our sleeves. I don’t recall people being told to work from home en masse, schools being closed and a prediction of the World Economy coming to an end. Did we even restrict flights from China?

I was just telling my kids about that a couple days ago. Yesterday their school was giving them the panic rundown on everything they should not do (no cases in my state) and I had to remind them that under the previous regime the president did nothing at all and the press didn’t find that to be a problem in the least.

Because I have a strange and twisted mind I would be very interested to see if the number of “regular flu” cases has dropped since everyone in the world has started washing their hands and stopped coughing on each other.

Maybe the CDC could look into this? It could prove that if people were more hygienic all the time then the spread of other diseases could be reduced.

    Oh well….

Charles K. Edwards, a former Acting Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, has been indicted on 16 counts relating to a scheme to steal software and databases containing the personal information of government employees so he could sell an enhanced version of that software to the Department of Agriculture, the Justice Department announced on Friday.

yeah, this isn’t the first time I’ve heard this

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the agent asserted that, “We had to cancel the VP Christmas get together at the Vice President’s house because Biden would grope all of our wives and girlfriend’s asses.” The annual party was for agents and Navy personnel who were tasked with protecting the Biden family.

“He would mess with every single woman or teen. It was horrible,” the agent said.

According to the source, a Secret Service agent once got suspended for a week in 2009 for shoving Biden after he cupped his girlfriend’s breast while the couple was taking a photo with him. The situation got so heated, the source told Cassandra Fairbanks, that others had to step in to prevent the agent from hitting the then-Vice President.

    @ eaglesoars:

Interesting…I believe Covington & Burling LLC is the firm that employs Obama’s “wing man” – former attorney general Meerkat.

Insufficiency of counsel? That’s not a good look. Could it be that MAYBE Mr. Fast and Furious told the lawyers to essentially take a dive in the case of Flynn and talk him into a guilty plea? Certainly they had the same information Powell has.

I don’t know if it’s a good sign that Sullivan is allowing this, but it’s serious stuff. This is the kind of allegation that gets the Bar’s Disciplinary Committee opening a file.

We are supposed to do something with clocks on Sunday. It used to be important many years ago but now with computers and phones they do it automatically. Great! However, cats are not connected to the internet. So I will still get one or more of them jumping up and down on my bladder and other squishy bits about three hours before I have to get up. Cats do not care about what time it is. They just instinctively know when to be assholes.
