Day 8 of the Great American Lock-down

The PA governor more or less shut down the whole state to ruin us deplorables. And none of our big mouth GOPsters in the state house or senate even said a word.

A very fun read today, as it’s almost a month old.

    The Missionary Virus

    https://americanmind.org/essays/rip-globalism-dead-of-coronavirus/

These experts hold their ideas because those ideas are hypotheses that have succeeded in the scientific marketplace of ideas. For those who spent high school smoking out behind the goalposts, this is how all scientific “truth” is established. If this process did not work, your computer would not work. But if it broke, not even everywhere—would your computer break? In a doctrinally homogeneous scientific market where every expert is or must pretend to be an adherent of some doctrine—whether Christian, Communist, or Nazi—ideas may earn as many points for doctrinal as logical strength. As we learned from the 20th-century regimes in which power distorted science, this bias, iterated, can evolve almost arbitrary levels of consensus error. Even good, red-blooded American ideas, such as internationalism, are capable of catalyzing this reaction

Susan Collins just bitch-slipped Cardin and Shaheen on the Senate floor for negotiating in bad faith.

I think a lot of formerly cordial relationships have been trashed beyond repair.

Pelosi is trying to get her own bill passed. It started at over 1200 pages (which tells you they didn’t just throw it together over the weekend) and includes things like solar subsidies, zero emissions regs for airlines, unlimited union pensions benefits (which will be fun when the businesses close and the unions are kaput).

That was an hour ago. It’s now up to about 1400 pages and includes community newspapers and post office bailouts

No, and people who keep repeating that crap are either deliberately misrepresenting what they’ve heard/read or are stupid. I tried to get Mark Levin’s interview w/Fauci but Fox has blocked it for copyright stuff.

no matter the thread, comments supporting this all cite the myth that the Rs were passing a bill to bail out Trump’s companies. It’s true that his companies may be eligible but the myth is that’s what the bill is mainly for, the rest is just cover.

It doesn’t matter that it’s not true (which they probably know). And please note that Trump has ALWAYS supported coverage for pre-existing conditions. That is a blatant lie.

I’ve looked thru a few things that have been posted and the one that frightens me the most is that mandatory early voting, mandatory mail in voting, etc – it’s just rife with voter fraud loopholes.

Somebody had a good suggestion. Have McConnell at today’s briefing with Trump and let him tell how all this went down.

Here is another BS piece trying to portray Trump and Fauci at odds. Axios, of course.

President Trump and some of his senior officials are losing patience with the doctors’ orders.

No one has ever said that or shown that.

Why it matters: Taken together, Trump’s tweet and Pence’s comment supply the strongest public signals we’ve seen that the administration is looking for ways to get people out in the world again to fire up the economy — perhaps much sooner than Dr. Fauci would like.

Perhaps? Did you call him for comment on the piece or did you just decide to speak for him?

Between the lines: Senior Trump officials, including the president himself, have only limited patience for keeping the economy shut down. They are watching stocks tumble and unemployment skyrocket

That’s not between the lines, you morons, it’s in Trump’s tweet which you cited in the beginning of the article.

Fauci, btw, is quoted nowhere in this, nor is any other doc. But let’s set up a War of the Roses scenario because ORANGE MAN BAD – and we’re bored.

He told us the other day his biggest personal concern was not getting this because his wife has MS. Now he can’t see her for almost 2 weeks.

He’s blaming Rand Paul for Romney not being able to see Ann.

But Nancy Pelosi’s spawn, Christine, is not letting the family reputation for being total scum down

Trump obviously has invested (through his sons no doubt) in the companies that make “HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE & AZITHROMYCIN”.
I would be really surprised if they do anything but fill Trump’s pockets

    https://twitter.com/realdawnhoward/status/1241370847388016640

It’s also OBVIOUS that Trump does not invest AND that these drugs are generic and sell for next to nothing. Of course, once these drugs start actually curing people, she’ll figure out something else.

Our county commission has recommended a stay at home order beginning Wednesday. No sunset on it. There is a fairly extensive list of what would be considered exempt businesses, but the effect would still be devastating on the economy.

because flu patients don’t show up at the hospitals all at once needing specialized equipment/nursing/PPE stuff.

It’s the ‘all at once’ overwhelming the med system. And this appears to be HIGHLY infectious. I heard a doc earlier say he walks out of hospital after a shift (NYC) and sees all the people on the street ignoring Cuomo’s plea to stay home and wonders if they understand on any level that they could kill him.

Moving to Level Four in 24 hours.

    Total lockdown.

Police and if necessary troops on the streets to enforce compliance.

You allowed to send one person per house to shop at supermarkets and Pharmacies and fill up at gas stations.

You’re allowed to walk outside to take the air reasonably close to your residence. Keep 2 metres from all people not your family members. No visiting. All non-essential businesses closed. Tax holidays and relief. Subsidies to protect business from going broke. Mortgage holidays to prevent people losing homes. Rent controls.

Current Level 4 restrictions in effect for 1 month at which time progress on virus reduction by social distancing will be re-assessed.

I think we are looking at being restricted to home for at least 3 months as we are coming into winter. Pharmacies have been authorised to give early historical flu vaccines, to vulnerable and core emergence workers.

Got 1 1/2 feet of books to read and a beach 50 feet away to exercise on and wood enough to heat us through the winter and 6 months vittles stored.

    Ready!

I hope Trump tells them that he will not sign anything but a clean bill spelling out relief for business and Americans that are OUT OF WORK – in the form of 100% of salary unemployment benefits. If you’re still fully employed and getting a paycheck, you should not be receiving anything.

This morning I came into the office in Oakland because some things need to be done from the all-powerful 2-screen desktop that pulls on every program and app we have at the firm. Oh, lookie here! If you watched Trump’s town hall, he went after Cuomo saying he could have bought ventilators in 2015. And he handed a document to Bill Hemmer that everybody forgot about. This – I’m guessing – is the document.

<These FAQS answer commonly asked questions about the 2015 Ventilator Allocation Guidelines (The Guidelines). For a comprehensive overview, see the Executive Summary of the Guidelines.

    Q. Can the State stockpile as many ventilators as would be needed in a severe pandemic?

Even if New York State purchases additional ventilators, the demand would quickly outpace supply in a severe pandemic. No matter how matter ventilators are available, in a severe pandemic there will be shortages because so many people will be sick at the same time. In addition, even with enough ventilators, a sufficient number of trained staff may not be available to operate them, particularly because health care workers will be among the ill.

    KABOOMSKI!!!

The stock market rallied following President Donald Trump’s statement that he hopes to “reopen America” by Easter Sunday in what Fox News’s Bill Hemmer described as a “Great American Resurrection.” The stocks also seem to have responded to news that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was dropping her Christmas wish-list bill and decided to make a deal on the Senate stimulus package Democrats twice rejected on Sunday and Monday.

In the last hour of trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped a record-breaking 2,112 points in the largest one-day gain ever, Fox News reported. This represented an 11 percent gain, while the S&P 500 gained 9.3 percent and the Nasdaq rose more than 8.1 percent.

    https://images.app.goo.gl/Bvz7BoyNTDRY6jCt7

The white hoses coming from the machine are disposable and not reused on patients. The little tube taped to the patients mouth has to be passed through the trachea into the lungs and that is disposable too. It’s called an endotracheal tube or, for short, an ETT.

The problem with just saying, just make more ventilators is not taking into account the available of trained personnel to run them. Most nurses in the hospital have no clue how to take care of a patient on one. Cold Warrior is an exception, not the norm for nurses.

Currently we have 1175 hospitalizations and 696 deaths due to COVID-19 and over 70% of deaths are in CA, NY, WA.

Yeah, the death count is ‘to date’, the hospital count is ‘today’. I didn’t post the entire thread so that wasn’t clear in that single post.

I want to know the percentage of hospitalization to the infected of flu patients and I want to know what the date boundaries are for flu. If we have a 36k death count, that averages to 3k a month if you use 12 months. But the flu season doesn’t run 12 mos, so what’s the avg monthly death count for the flu?

  82. Calo
    86 | March 24, 2020 9:35 pm

    @ eaglesoars:
Hygenic measures are needed, but does not consist of reitubation or reinserting the endotrachael tube. Those white hoses are usually pitched every 72-96 hours for a new set depending on a hospital’s protocol, which can vary. It is done within 15-30 seconds. ETT are good for a few weeks, about the duration a COVID-19 patient might need ventilation.

Never worked with burn patients, sounds heartbreaking.

    Oh my god

Nevada’s governor has signed an emergency order barring the use of anti-malaria drugs for someone who has the coronavirus.

Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak’s order Tuesday restricting chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine comes after President Donald Trump touted the medication as a treatment for the virus.

Trump last week falsely stated that the Food and Drug Administration had just approved the use of chloroquine to treat patients infected with coronavirus. After the FDA’s chief said the drug still needs to be tested for that use, Trump overstated the drug’s potential benefits in containing the virus.

Sisolak said in a statement that there’s no consensus among experts or Nevada doctors that the drugs can treat people with COVID-19. His order also limits a prescription to a 30-day supply to ensure it’s available for “legitimate medical purposes” and so that people cannot find a way to stockpile the drug.

The governor’s rule comes a day after a Phoenix-area man died and his wife was in critical condition from taking an additive used to clean fish tanks known as chloroquine phosphate, similar to the drug used to treat malaria.

    • Breathing restored 3-4 hours
    • Zero deaths

That’s a dark cloud. If Charles goes, then it’s Will up to the plate. I have no problems with him or Kate, but I’d bet my bank account that Ginge and Cringe would be back in the UK faster than you can say “Diana”, with Cringe playing the lead as Mother Theresa and years of photos of Charles walking her down the aisle. The Brits would fill ditches with bile, they are so fed up with them, and there goes the monarchy. Heartache

China, over the last eight years, has produced only 118 of its Z10 helicopter gunships. This was China’s first effort at designing a Western style gunship. The low production rate is because there have been problems and China likes to fix most of these “new system” problems before building a lot of something.

Some of the problems are fixed with an upgraded or new feature. For example, a recent upgrade has the engine exhaust directed upwards into the spinning rotors instead to the rear. Sending the hot exhaust into the spinning rotors reduces the infrared (heat) available for heat-seeking missiles to home in on

WHAT?? This article is really about how the French and U.S. are foiling China’s military development but ‘the stupid’ caught my eye.

    https://strategypage.com/htmw/htairfo/articles/20200323.aspx

And somewhere yesterday I saw a headline that China has given up developing an air carrier fleet. Well, yeah, if every flying vehicle you plan to deploy on them has the exhaust heading in the wrong direction.

Now I know how they managed to ‘invent’ gunpowder.

That’s not a pay raise for them. It’s apparently money to pay for additional staff, along with infrastructure upgrades to allow them to do more teleworking stuff.

Even if they were to vote themselves a pay raise, it wouldn’t go into effect until January, when the next Congress is seated.

They made their bed and now they can lie in it.

Te Tabloids might put up the odd story second or third hand but motley it’d be a bit of a relief for the British public who think Chuckles is a brick short of a load andyway and they have an heir and a spare already. So it’s all good

I did not hear that and I’m sure that I’d have read about it in Janes Navy Review before this.

The economic problems within the Chinese exchequer are mounting but the Carrier Battle Fleets of at least Three large 80,000+ tonne carriers with their associated protective fleets not counting the two prototype trial carrier development ships was core to the PLAN planning to dominate the Nine Dash Line and the first Island chain to ensure that the bottlenecks can be kept open. Without at least 3 Carrier Battle Groups able to concentrate quickly within the South China sea and approaches and see off the US Navy in a surprise wartime scenario is what all of the planning has been about for these last 20 years. To throw all of that investment away so quickly is beyond implausible.

Unless of course like NAZI Germany in 1944 they thought that ‘Wondor Weapons’ might pull their fat out of the frying pan at the last moment. Are the Chinese going to do a pivot and trust in a similar ‘hail mary’ pass?

The maskss are for show really and are there to give the impression that other folks are looking after her. Ngarimu Bay’s 70 houses have set up a telephone tree and there are a LOT of current and former specialists about to ensure that everyone will have full services available until the professional utility providers get around to fix outages.

I just got a text from my niece. A friend of hers is an ICU nurse at a level 1 trauma center in MICHIGAN. Which we have heard nothing about. here’s the deal

They have 5 ICUs 4 of those are now strictly COVID-19. They ran out of ventilators over a week ago. They’re seeing mostly young patients with no comorbidities . Most patients are having to be intubated w/in the first 24-48 hrs and as of now none of them have left the ICU alive. Their first patient was a young ICU doctor that had to be intubated on his first night in ICU. That was 2.5 weeks ago and he is still on a ventilator in critical condition. He had no underlying conditions. There are 2 different strains – one that primarily affects older people and one that primarily affects younger people. They are seeing a lot of people without a fever. That is particularly worrisome because people all over the world have been screening people via temps. That is no longer a qualifier. They are also seeing a huuuuge problem with mucus plugs obstructing the airway

Plaquenil which has weak ACE2 blockade doesn’t appear to be a savior of any kind in our patient population. Theoretically, it may have some prophylactic properties but so far it is difficult to see the benefit to our hospitalized patients, but we are using it and the studies will tell. With Plaquenil’s potential QT prolongation and liver toxic effects (both particularly problematic in covid 19 patients), I am not longer selectively prescribing this medication as I stated on a previous post.
