UN says the world cannot return to ‘previous normal’ after coronavirus

Or, as Rahm Emanuel famously said, “Never let a serious crisis go to waste.”

The United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed told an international forum Friday that society cannot return the “previous normal” as he laid out socioeconomic responses amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Mohammed said that for many countries, the worst of the pandemic has yet come and the International Labor Organization (ILO) estimates that 300 million jobs could be lost — a figure that is 15 times higher than the job losses in the 2008 financial crisis.

To date, the coronavirus has infected over 9 million people and killed more than 472,000 globally.

The World Bank has reportedly estimated that 70 to 100 million people could be pushed into extreme poverty, and the world could see the sharpest decline in per-capita income since the 1870s.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has further warned that 265 million people “could face acute food insecurity by year’s end — double the number at risk before the crisis,” Mohamed said.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has made the promise of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs [Sustainable Development Goals] more relevant and vital than ever,” Mohammed said Friday. “The crisis is a stark reminder that any recovery that fails to address the causes of our present vulnerabilities condemns us to more acute crises in the future.” https://www.foxnews.com/world/un-world-cannot-return-to-previous-normal-coronavirus

Here is someone else who says they can’t get a payment processor. I can’t cut-paste this but he says it’s called the MATCH list and is curated by Mastercard.

NP2 processing is down permanently. Thanks for the support, everyone. After 18 months, I can confidently say that Patreon, et al, must censor to survive. We’re all under the thumb of MasterCard and they’re likely in your wallet.

Bowie saved a lot of lives with this song. I won’t say mine, because I was always having fun in those times, despite the general air of hopelessness and despair in the late-60’s/early-70’s when Ziggy played guitar. I ended up knowing several people in that little subdivision who killed themselves.

There are several, but they are not the majority.

Do the corporations and boards really hate Trump this much? I guess it doesn’t matter to them that much. Remember corporations pay no taxes their customers do? Also, corporations suffer no economic impacts from these losses — their customers do through the higher prices that will be spread across the board to make up for this stuff.

Given what he’s done for the economy, no, they don’t hate Trump. They fear these mouth breathers tho. I haven’t been in a Target since they allowed men in the ladies’ rooms, so……….That’s Target, L’Oreal, and Sokoglam that have lost me so far. I can’t do without amazon, so I’m stuck there.

One thing I noticed about this incident – a lot of Target stores are in malls, this one doesn’t appear to be. I tend to think that if this happened in a mall, the tolerance level would be considerably lower. There are a lot of other businesses that would suffer and the mgmt/owner AND politicians would be pissed. Unless it’s someplace like Seattle, so maybe not.

I’m not so sure about that. The CEO of the company I work for, after this latest BLM stunt, made the usual pandering statements and spoke about our “values” and that he trusted that we, as employees, would vote in the coming election with those “values” in mind. Now, bear in mind, I work for an industry that has benefited greatly from Trump’s support of a strong national defense and the fact that the marxists the CEO is pandering to would gut our industry in a heartbeat. The CEO is merely echoing the desires of the SJW’s on the Board of Directors and loves his job and perks too much to take any kind of stand if he doesn’t out and out support “the cause”

oh, before I leave. People finally noticed this about parler. There’s a clause in the ToS that says signing up means you accept financial responsibility for defending lawsuits. That’s how people are interpreting it.

That’s not what it says. The REST of the story says ARISING FROM YOUR USE. Which means if a particular user gets us sued, we’re going after THAT wallet. It does not say if they get sued everybody has to pay our bills

In reference to the whole not being able to correctly pronounce someone’s name from the last thread, my last name is FOUR letters and half the people on the planet pronounce it wrong. Every time I get a phone call and they say my last name wrong I know it’s a telemarketer and hang up. LOL.

CW, tonights cigar is an ALPHA cigars DEFUSER. Absinthe infused maduro with ligero. I’m kind of a proto-ambassador for the brand so if anyone wants some cigars from them my last name is a 50% off promo code so ask CW for my email. (CW if you’re interested in placing an order send me an email, I think the site should still have my info.) Their line of cigars are all infused but it’s very light on the Defuser. I think my promo is good sitewide too, not just on Alpha products but I haven’t tried it yet.

I’m not really shilling, just want to hook up any of my friends like CW that like cigars.

Mississippi Lawmakers Vote to Retire State Flag Rooted in the Confederacy

The flag, which has flown since 1894, is poised to come down, becoming yet another emblem of the Confederacy to be removed across the South.

The flag served for many as an inescapable symbol of Mississippi’s racial scars and of the consequences of that racial history in defining perceptions of the state.

Still embraced by many white Mississippians as a proud display of Old South heritage, the flag increasingly has come to evoke segregation, racial violence and a war that had a central aim of preserving slavery.

There’s a context for it people haven’t picked up on yet. They want ALL civil war battlefield statues removed.

I’m guessing their ultimate goal is to remove the FACT of the civil war or so drastically distort its meaning that it has no meaning in the context of ending slavery. Remember what that BLM protester said in D.C. trying to remove the Lincoln statue commemorating the Emancipation Proclamation.

Ah, I remember her. Susan Rosenberg. Weather Underground. Clinton pardon.

Now with – drum roll – BLM.

And there’s something called Thousand Currents, which is new to me.

    ——

When “Black Lives Matter” is used to refer to an organization, it typically means the BLM Global Network Foundation that traces its beginnings to “three radical Black organizers — Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi.” Cullors recently went viral online when she admitted that she and others in the group were “trained Marxists.”

This leads to confusion when people express their support for “Black Lives,” because they may not realize this organization is ideologically tied—to the point of having Rosenberg on the board of the central group—with trained Marxists with a history of extremism and violence. In fact, Rosenberg was a member of the May 19th Communist Organization (M19). It was, according to this NY Post article from January 2020, “the nation’s only woman-run terror group,” as recounted by William Rosenau in his book Tonight We Bombed the U.S. Capitol.

So now Jack Dorsey is stealing money from his Square clients.

Square reportedly told merchants that it was withholding a percentage of their payments in order to protect against risky transactions or customers who may demand their money back. However, several merchants have provided records showing that they have had no returns or risk flags.

oh good, you’re here. I want to run something by you. Tell me if you think it’s a plausible scenario.

This NYT story that the Russkies paid the Taliban to kill American soldiers. Bullshit from the get-go, the Taliban have been doing that for years all by themselves.

BUT. There ARE mercenaries over there. I talked to somebody somebody somebody who told me that troops had to note things like what shoes the ‘enemy’ they killed was wearing because things like that would give an idea of where they were coming from. And even tho Putin denies it, we know he uses mercenaries because we wiped out about 200 of them in – Libya, I think – about a year ago and they bitched like little girls cuz they had no chance.

So. Mercenaries go over there and NOBODY wants to come face to face with Americans if they can help it, so they mostly hide. Get drunk. Learn all the names of the goats. Whatever.

To fix THAT problem, instead of – or on top of – a paycheck – they get a ‘kill bonus’.

Now to an idiot NYT reporter who thinks Hindu Kush is an ancient sexual maneuver, they get a scrambled, zero-context story from an intern at State who thinks reading assessments that go nowhere because they aren’t worth crap, and out pops a story that Putin is paying the Taliban to kill American troops and Trump knows about it. What Trump knows is that there are mercenaries over there, everybody knows that.

    Plausible?

Actually Eagles I have absolutely no idea whether this is true or some fevered imaginings of a cub reporter at WaPo.

The things i do know to be true is that Putin loves to use ‘contractors’ …as does the US…. because they give one deniability. Now the US had loads of private ‘contractors’ operating with the Northern Alliance during the Russian occupation. You never know but the Russians have long memories and usually have the patience to wait until they can get even. This may just be Putin’s ‘get even moment’ as the US draw down and become more defensively focused prior to departure. Putin definitely does NOT want Russian regulars battling US regulars, BUT ‘contractors’ allow Putin a LOT more freedom of action so such a scenario is very plausible.

However as I said … what would I know?

    Well, well, well

Gilead Will Charge More Than $3,000 For A Course Of COVID-19 Drug Remdesivir

On Monday, Gilead disclosed its pricing plan for Gilead as it prepares to begin charging for the drug at the beginning of next month (several international governments have already placed orders). Given the high demand, thanks in part due to the breathless media coverage despite the drug’s still-questionable study data, Gilead apparently feels justified in charging $3,120 for a patient getting the shorter, more common, treatment course, and $5,720 for the longer course for more seriously ill patients. These are the prices for patients with commercial insurance in the US, according to Gilead’s official pricing plan.

As per usual, the price charged to those on government plans will be lower, and hospitals will also receive a slight discount. Additionally, the US is the only developed country where Gilead will charge two prices, according to Gilead CEO Daniel O’Day. In much of Europe and Canada, governments negotiate drug prices directly with drugmakers (in the US, laws dictate that drug makers must “discount” their drugs for medicare and medicaid plans).

The missing context is that FARMS WERE/ARE BEING LOST PERIOD. Race had nothing to do with most of it.

I haz an idea. One of the things I loved about Elizabeth Taylor is that she had a bigger pair than just about any man on the planet. She always said “I am my OWN commodity”. Nobody made money off anything about her without her ok.

Why can’t we all say the same?

Every app in the universe collects out data and/or data about us and we get bupkis. How about we’re allowed to OWN our data?

    There’s your guaranteed universal income.

In 2003 Congress limited funding of American and foreign NGOs to those that have explicit policies against child trafficking, etc. In 2013, that policy was deemed unconstitutional (1st amend) when applied to AMERICAN orgs.

This case was whether or not that 2013 reversal should apply to Open Society’s (American org) foreign affiliates.

The decision is that Open Society’s foreign affiliates have no Constitutional protections and they can piss up a rope.

It was tough for white guys as well. Those who got FmHA loans were at the mercy of the loan officer to run their business. We personally know one farmer who was forced to sell his pigs — he ran a weaner pig operation — by the FmHA overseer. The farmer lived on an 80 acre farm and those pigs were the only way that small acreage was going to make a go of it. You don’t feed a family on 30 acres of 5 ton an acre hay — which was the only other thing that farm could produce. A second farmer in the same area was forbidden from raising sugar beets and forced to grow corn. He also had to declare bankruptcy.

Oh, the FmHA officer? He was a black dude.

I haven’t been to my Catholic church in years. The last time we went, I approached a priest about the fact that my wife wasn’t Catholic, and that we were married by a minister in Mexico. The reaction was…less than pleasant.
My wife was even willing to take catechism, and we both expressed interest in a Catholic ceremony, but the guy reacted like we were both about to burst into flames.

Her church (Salvation Army – loosely Methodist) doesn’t care and accepts our marriage, and since then Frank took the papacy over. The RCC is currently a flaming mess of sexual abuse suits and communism, as far as I can tell.

That’s a real shame . I too am Catholic and I married an Anglican ( same as Episcopalian in the States). The local and I stress LOCAL Catholic clergy were less than welcoming so I did an end run around them and imported a catholic priest from Australia who officiated jointly with an Anglican priest at an Anglican Church. He like me were pilots and he was a late formation only becoming a priest at 33 after serving as a weapons fitter in the airforce and studying to be an accountant. My Anglican wife even volunteered to take catechism classes (as in teach not learn) for First Communion children when only one other Catholic parent volunteered ( out of about 30!). The local nuns were fabulous but we has a LOCAL priest who too objection to my wife and his prejudice really showed even though all of our kids were brought up Catholic.

When I was flying in New Guinea as a bush pilot for a Catholic mission there were a few Anglicans teaching school in the bush and the LOCAL Bishop OKed them taking Communion. The Church is made up of a lot of human beings with variable capabilities and some (most) can’t see the wood for the trees. The idea that you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar seems foreign to them. They often have a severe Christian failure of imagination when it comes to other Christians.

Don’t get me started on Francis mate. Your ears will bleed!

Yet my Parish priest who I have either 30 minutes or 100 minutes to reach on Sunday depending where I’m coming from (home or beach house) is one of the very very GOOD guys. He hears confessions very often each week and Sundays he celebrates TLM… The Latin Mass.. which overflows. He is also forced to celebrate an Novo Ordo mass because the ‘chinless wonder’ of a bloody Bishop ‘requires it’ of him. We are pretty well off for Traditional Latin Masses here in Auckland with Holy Family Church plus two FPPS chapels that do not fall within the power of the local Diocese and Bishop.

MOST and I really mean MOST of the Catholic Church in Oz and NZ are in the thrall of the ‘new’ happy clappy Church with traditional Catholics few and far between . Still we remain the REMNANT and proudly so even if it costs us time and gasoline and miles. Times are a changing however. WE few Traditionalists are thriving and the leftist happy classy lot are falling on hard times with financially and especially spiritually.Virtually all the vocations are happening ONLY in the Traditional Church and the rest are dying off.

Find yourself a Traditional parish and spend the gas mines to get there. There are a LOT more around in the States than there are down-under believe me!

I’ve noticed the streaming services are suddenly putting a whole bunch of documentaries about watergate, iran/contra, and other presidential scandals on their services, trying to program the public and prep them. Oh, and Trumps campaign ads are the most devastating that I’ve ever seen in an election. Even the RNC suddenly remembered that they are supposed to actually go after the other guy and are running very well made ruthless ads that do what they are supposed to do. It’s impressive seeing our side actually running an election instead of trying to play “nice guy” while the other side just gets away with whatever they feel like.

The only ads we see here are from The Liberty Group, i.e., Rick Wilson, Steve Schmidt, Kristol, etc.

I’m on HULU streaming and actually get a lot of ads from Donald Trump and RNC. Pretty solid ads. The BIden dementia ad is killer.
