Yeah, Yeah, I know it’s Friday. However, this is clearly pertinent, timely, and will require a long sit down to get through this exhaustive article. Our grad-ass Chuckles has coffee and bagels against the back wall. Keep your hands and feet away from his teeth…he bites!

I also wanted to put this in its own post so that it can be easily referenced.

The link is here.

Enjoy!

I have another question, that this article just glances against with “we’ve never done this before”.

That’s right. Name one virus that we’ve wiped out. Smallpox? We’ve vaccinated against it, but it still exists. We get flu every year and have never masked. And if you think flu is just a bad cold, talk to people who have had limbs amputated because of a cytokine storm caused by the flu they caught.

Anybody who pays attention knows that the virus is 30 nano-whatever smaller than the pores of the mask.

This is political. On a day-to-day scale, it atomizes other people whose faces we can’t see, an absolute human necessity. It’s a form of dehumanization. It also deputizes the Karens (who should be called ‘kapos’). How many stories have we seen of people getting into fights because somebody refused to wear a mask and got challenged by the local kapo for being ‘selfish’? There was a 400 comment thread on my Nextdoor app started by one of these mini-monsters who saw a maskless woman at THE PRODUCE section of the grocery store and was utterly traumatized. (Why the produce section should be more critical than the bakery, I have no idea.) About 50 of the responses included the phone # for the police she should call in case there is a ‘next time’. The 15 or so people who called bullshit got shouted down.

Ultimately, I wonder if this entire farce is just a way for some really bored/unsatisfied losers a way to find meaning in their lives. Find a hobby.

From what I’m reading and the little bit I’ve been able to watch, Trump’s lawyers finally got a grip and are destroying the prosecution’s case.

But it won’t matter. They lie openly, knowing everybody sees the lies, but it’s ok, because TRUMP. The truth is entirely irrelevant. This is theater, where the suspension of disbelief is the entry fee.

Is it possible to fight against totalitarian statists without ever compromising conservative “principles?” Is it better to play “fair,” and constantly lose? Can you grapple with monsters without becoming a monster? That’s the question at the heart of the schism on the Right.

I really wish so-called ‘journalists’ would do anything close to due diligence. There’s a media storm about TJ Dulko – aid to Biden – being abusive to a female Politico reporter for disclosing his relationship w/another reporter. There’s no doubt he was. The media is all over Biden for not living up to his promise to fire anybody who was rude, etc. They’ve simply suspended him for a week w/o pay.

He has apologized personally and in writing.

Here’s what no one is telling you and I found out simply by looking at his wiki page – took 2 sec. He’s a 32 years old non-smoker who got a diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer last October. OF COURSE they aren’t going to fire him, he needs the insurance.

Don’t think the press corps doesn’t know this. They’re going to hang this guys death sentence around Biden’s neck for not keeping a promise and the WH is in a bind because if they admit the truth, the media will go wild on health insurance. In the meantime, this guy – who by all accounts is a true asshole, but so what? – gets tossed into the wilderness just when he needs all the support he can get.

Then we are, as is Thompson in his piece, provoked to ask, why did the media, our bureaucratic government leaders, and the medical experts seemingly collude to damage our children with their baseless school closures? Why did they deceive the public for so long?

That is an easy question to answer, “Because, Orange Man Bad”.

It’s as simple as that. The left didn’t let a crisis go to waste and used this as a means of destroying a very successful presidency.

You are more kind than I and putting a much more positive slant on this. I’m really beginning to think that the establishment GOP is nothing more than the Paluka (sp?) party that exists as a wholly owned subsidiary of the DNC with the sole purpose of providing a “loyal opposition” but helping advance the DNC’s statist policies. I point to the McCain and Romney presidential campaigns as evidence. … and the 2020 election where the GOP had ample opportunity to prevent the widespread fraud and enabling capabilities for that fraud via mail-in voting.

Never mistake twitter for being a snapshot of the country. It is anything but. I read one stat that only 2% of people use it (and that conforms to other stats). The only reason it gets any play is because a lot of media use it as an outlet.

It’s a media cesspool, it’s not the country at large. Perspective.

One reason I like it is because a lot of history academics use it so I get to see stuff I wouldn’t see otherwise. And farmers from other countries, etc.

I just rarely post stuff about Pompei or Roman history, etc. And I’m pretty sure nobody here is interested in Irish sheep farmers.

Altho if you think twitter is bad – Harvard admitted David Hogg. So, there’s that.

Last I heard, the Republicans said that if the Dems called even one witness, they were going to call dozens in response. This could go on for a while:

Impeachment Trial Live Updates: Senate Votes to Hear Witnesses, Delaying Verdict on Trump

Senator Mitch McConnell told his Republican colleagues that he planned to vote to acquit former President Donald J. Trump, who faces a charge of “incitement of insurrection.”

In an unexpected move, the Senate approved delaying a final verdict in former President Donald J. Trump’s trial so that Democrats could call a Republican congresswoman as a witness and subpoena her notes after she confirmed she was told that the former president had sided with the mob as rioters were attacking the Capitol.

Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland, the lead impeachment manager, said that Democrats wanted Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler of Washington to testify after she confirmed late Friday evening that Representative Kevin McCarthy, the minority leader, told her that the former president had said during a phone call that the rioters were more upset about the election than Mr. McCarthy was. Mr. Raskin said he wanted a short deposition held virtually with the congresswoman and a subpoena for her contemporaneous notes.

“We believe we’ve proven our case,” Mr. Raskin said moments after the Senate convened in the impeachment trial session on Saturday morning. But he said Ms. Herrera Beutler’s statement amounted to “an additional critical piece of corroborating evidence, further confirming the charges before you.”

Those who can MAKE you believe absurdities, can MAKE you commit atrocities…… Voltaire …

We have Kapo morons who Want To Believe mater how Absurd, because if gives them the whiff of power. They then turn into monsters who can justify ANY wickedness because of that intoxicating power.

There Kapos can’t debate because they lack the provable facts, so don’t even attempt to debate them. Debate only enrages them and drives their rage to greater wickedness. The atrocities then commit appear to a rational individual to be absurd in their justification, but to the Kapo they appear in their own delusions to be totally justified and even ‘moral’.

Better to leave them to their delusional world view and protect oneself from the worst of their atrocities.

That’s not to say one should attempt to take them on alone. We are only powerful enough to resist this group madness by supporting each other and resisting as a group.

Peter Comey was officially DLA Piper “Senior Director of Real Estate Operations for the Americas,” in 2015 when the Clinton Foundation scandals first broke and Hillary was preparing her Presidential campaign. Not only was DLA Piper, the firm where Comey’s brother worked involved in the audit of the Clinton Foundation, but according to the foundation’s donor records, DLA Piper has given between $50 – 100k to the Foundation. It gets even cozier. DLA Piper executive Douglas Emhoff is taking an extended leave of absence from the firm. Who is Douglas Emhoff? He is the husband of KAMALA HARRIS!

Just a coincidence? Amazing if it is. You can’t make this stuff up! Another example of the DC swamp.”

Millions raised by Lincoln Project goes to companies run by group’s founders, records show

Out of roughly $90 million the anti-Trump Lincoln Project has raised, more than half has gone to firms run by the group’s founders, according to open records data reviewed by Fox Business.

The records show that about a third of the money – roughly $27 million – raised by the super PAC, directly paid for advertisements that aired on broadcast and cable, or appeared online, during the 2020 campaign.

The vast majority of the cash was split among consulting firms controlled by its founders, including about $27 million paid to a small firm controlled by Galen and another $21 million paid to a boutique firm run by former Lincoln Project member Ron Steslow, campaign finance disclosures show.

That leaves tens of millions of dollars that went toward expenses like production costs, overhead — and exorbitant consulting fees collected by members of the group.

“It raises questions about where the rest of the money ultimately went,” said Brendan Fischer, an attorney with the nonpartisan Campaign Legal Center in Washington. “Generally speaking, you’d expect to see a major super PAC spend a majority or more of their money on advertisements and that’s not what happened here.”

The revelation comes as the group faces allegations of sexual harassment against one of its co-founders, John Weaver. Members of the organization’s leadership were reportedly informed in June 2020 in writing and in subsequent phone calls of at least 10 specific allegations of harassment against Weaver, including two involving Lincoln Project employees, according to multiple people with direct knowledge of the situation.

People think this stuff was “a long time ago”. It wasn’t and it isn’t. I remember reading in 2019 or 2020 that Denmark announced it had ‘wiped out’ Down’s Syndrome. uh huh.

My father’s first wife – they married in 1940, I think – was epileptic. Dad didn’t know. He found out when he woke up because she was having a seizure in her sleep. Here’s the thing. In Pennsylvania it was illegal for epileptics to marry. He eventually had the marriage annulled on those grounds. (Not because of her illness, she cheated on him while he was in England, but an annulment didn’t carry the ‘disgrace’ of a divorce for her, so that’s what he did.)

So there was some effort to ‘control’ for the ‘unfit’, but abortion was very backstreet.

Oddly enough, one of my cousins (son of mom’s sister) was born with fragile x syndrome, married a woman who was also mentally disadvantaged but I don’t know what her diagnosis might have been. They both died fairly young but not before they had a daughter who is perfectly normal. She’s a nurse.

She’s a Republican Congresswoman from the state of Washington. She maintains she had a conversation with Kevin McCarthy in which he told her about Trump’s so-called involvement in the riots and that he ‘refused to stop them’. She first mentioned this in a tweet (I think) and was supposed to be a witness at the impeachment until the Democrats realized that the Republicans had witnesses that would KILL their case. So, they put Beutler’s testimony into the record of the impeachment for reference and that was the end of her claim to fame.

What the reports ignore is this – Trump had zero authority to stop anything. The Capitol Police report to the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi.

    https://amgreatness.com/2021/02/14/the-new-york-times-retracts-the-sicknick-story/

The Times’ correction might be one reason why Democrats on Saturday reversed their demand to subpoena witnesses. House impeachment managers cited the original January 8 Times’ article as evidence in their impeachment memo: “The insurrectionists killed a Capitol Police officer by striking him in the head with a fire extinguisher.”

Any arrangement to compel testimony would have provided Trump’s legal team with an opportunity to expose yet another myth in the Democrats’ “incitement” case against the former president.

As per last night, its not only Texas. The blue area is likely the worst 5 days of winter in the lifetime of anyone that has spent their life here and is highly unlikely to repeat itself to this extent in their lifetime

Global warming or something something something…….

    It’s 12 here, with 25 mph wind.

Yesterday, it was in the upper 50s.

We know it’s cold. But if you turn down your heat to 68 degrees and put on a fleece, you can help keep the power flowing for everyone. #showusyourfleece #conserve

from other sources I’m seeing that part of the problem is wind turbines – they’re icing up

    oops!

    #BREAKING:
    @ERCOT_ISO
, the power grid operator in Texas, says about half of the wind turbine capacity (25,000-megawatts) in West Texas is not generating b/c of winter weather.

“As of this morning about half of the wind capacity was iced out,” said Dan Woodfin, ERCOT

How were they supposed to know that it would get cold in winter?

If they were in school at any point in the last 20 years, they’ve been told that there would be no more winters by now.

“[The New York Times] initially said Mr. Sicknick was struck with a fire extinguisher, but weeks later, police sources and investigators were at odds over whether he was hit. Medical experts have said he did not die of blunt force trauma, according to one law enforcement official.”
I haven’t seen anything yet on the actual cause of death or the circumstances.

I also haven’t seen any mention of who killed Ashli Babbitt.

Yep. And the 3rd would have been the previous chief of the Cap Police who resigned in disgust.

What I seeing now is interesting. There appears to be a cleft – McConnell & Thune vs Trump & Kristy Noem. Right now it appears to be more like ‘fantasy primaries’ but it is an interesting thought experiment. McConnell pissed off a lot of people for no good reason. Thune has McConnell’s support but he’s pretty much hated in S.D. and they’re talking about Kristy Noem up against him in the primary. She hasn’t said anything, don’t know if she’d be interested, but Trump would back her.

As far as I’m concerned McConnell has more than outlived his usefulness. He can go, feet first, head first, ass over tea kettle first, don’t much care.

not only that – I seems the newer homes in Texas are mostly electric. They’ve got gas out the wazoo. Whenever I’ve looked for a house to buy or build (4 times) I’ve insisted on gas. sheesh

That would be game set and match. This corrupt member of the ‘commentariat’ was exposed as the lying creep she is, and she had no response to the truth. Do I think this exposure to the truth of her corruption will change anything one jot?

He’s the guy that sorts out all of the surgical cock-ups that ‘cowboy orthopaedic surgeons’ make. So I thought I’d just cut out the middle men and go to The MAN!

Moreover, the website ProPublica offered a different explanation.

It quoted Ken Sicknick, whom the site identified as the late officer’s brother, as saying that Brian Sicknick had communicated with his family and never mentioned a fire extinguisher attack.

“He texted me last night and said, ‘I got pepper-sprayed twice,’ and he was in good shape,” said Ken Sicknick. “Apparently he collapsed in the Capitol and they resuscitated him using CPR.”

The site said that on Thursday, family members were told that the officer had a blood clot and suffered a stroke and was on a ventilator…

According to what ABC called “sources familiar with the matter,” authorities believe Brian Sicknick’s death was driven by a medical condition.
