On the downstairs thread I posted links to a story and supporting docs showing the Biden admin refused ERCOT’s request to use all energy resources unless they complied w/air quality standards, etc. All of Texas is back online now and I see this

Just talked to a lineman here in Texas that was working the outages. ‘The reason why the rolling blackouts stopped, is because people told ERCOT to shove it and increased the power output of our nuclear reactors and gas plants.’

Just had a “discussion” with a lib on Scott Adam’s Dilbert blog regarding this. It was really his deflection from the real topic of how the Biden administration is sucking the life out of our Republic and that no, we are not deluded when we say the GOP would be better. However, his first response to your scribd posting was that I hadn’t read it because it looked like telling Texas to do what it takes to keep Texans safe. When I posted the $1,500/MWh rate for excess generation requirement (that’s $1.50 per kWh, about 30 times retail generation costs), he then deflected and blamed Texans for not having a strong home insulation program. Yeah, it’s time for the states and people to tell the fed to shove it when it comes to their personal safety and well being because idiots like the one I have been having this “discussion” with are totally clueless.

I’ll call bullshit on that one. A/C consumes more energy than heating, and insulation works in both directions.

And that will be the last one I listen to. Apparently the only plan they have for his time slot going forward is to replay stuff.

Rush is gone, I will miss him forever. But I just can’t wallow in it.

I saw something today, a lib asking about what people thought would be a ‘fair’ stimulus payment and I’m thinking “Open the place up and let people go back to work”

So much of this bullshit is re-programming people to be dependent sheep

Biden being in China’s pocket means we throw India overboard too. This is a solid piece on the rationale for going easy on Iran

When you realise that this is about doing China a favour, not Iran, things start to make sense.

The Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline was a casualty of US sanctions on Iran. While these remain active, Pakistan is unable to complete this vital piece of China’s Belt and Road Initiative in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The oddly named ‘Peace Pipeline’ stops off at the strategic deep water seaport of Gwadar. Pakistan has handed management of the port over to China on a long lease after they paid for 80% of its construction, including a large international airport fully funded by Chinese grants. The object of the pipeline is to avoid the ‘Malacca Dilemma’ where foreign powers in a conflict can blockade China’s fuel resources in the Strait of Malacca and trigger an energy shortage. The pipeline joins a $2.5 billion dollar floating liquefied natural gas facility in the Gwadar Special Economic Zone that belongs to China, exempting its operations from Pakistani income, sales, and federal excise taxes.

Understanding and Embracing the Role of the 21st-Century American Dissident

Recently a couple of stories have surfaced that most people are not associating with one another. In Russia, opposition leader Alexei Navalny returned to Moscow after having spent several months in Germany recovering from an attempt on his life by means of the old Soviet method of poisoning. In what was almost certainly at the direction of Vladimir Putin, Navalny was arrested as he stepped off the plane.

Meanwhile, here in the United States, Russia’s opponent during the Cold War, the City of Philadelphia took the gun away from 51-year-old Police Detective Jennifer Gugger. Her “crime”? She attended the rally in Washington on January 6th. There was no indication that she was inside the Capitol, simply at the rally. She had some strong posts on social media, especially about Vice President Mike Pence, but not anything that would constitute a direct threat.

What do these two seemingly quite different people have in common? They are both dissidents. They both acted as though they had the right to say and do what they said and did. They were both mistaken. In Russia, given its history of totalitarianism, Navalny likely knew what he was getting himself into. In our country, however, where totalitarianism is in its infant stages, it is quite likely that Gugger was caught unawares.

This is going to be commonplace for many of us over the next several years as we are forced to come to grips with the fact that this is no longer the “home of the free and the land of the brave.” We can stomp our feet and deny it, we can try to act as though we don’t accept it, but it is not going to change the reality that the great American experiment that was launched just over 230 years ago is finally producing empirical results. The conclusion: People are capable of sustaining individual liberty only for as long as they can be constrained by a system of law that suppresses and contains their true nature.

    Hobbes was right.

Looks like we got screwed w/Barrett and Kavanaugh

SCOTUS declines to take up a pair of leftover cases from the 2020 election. They involved the authority of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to extend the state’s mail-in ballot deadline. Thomas, Alito and Gorsuch say the court should have granted review.

They didn’t make a ruling, they just dissented against not hearing the case. #SCOTUS has been clear on their position on the election. Jumping the gun.

    Did they write a dissent?

Apparently Thomas did. The rationale for refusing to hear is: no standing prior to the election, moot after the election.

The true rationale is that they are cowards.

don’t be silly. This blog is just a haven for some people who have a history together. “Contribute” in the wider sense of the word makes you a helluva lot more ‘contributer’ than most of us here.

get some rest. And when you’ve done that, I think it might be interesting to hear just how bad it is, what you’re seeing. One of the ‘things’ about this blog is a window to those things we don’t see in our ‘regular’ lives.

Watched Riverdale. The dark version of the Archie Comic books. I like the concept. The acting is good. But the plot and writing is weak to me. There is a gang in the show that is essentially supposed to be threatening but is actually a bunch of woke whiny kids. I didn’t think that part was done well. 1 star out of 5 though my sister gave it 5 of 5.

Green Arrow was the same as Riverdale.
    Gotham was good.
The 100 was good for the first 4 seasons. Much different from the book.

When I see the woke crap creeping into a show I just move on to something else.
