Now a group of tenured academics at 9 prestigious Australian Universities have initiated a Freedom Speech Mandate and it is spreading. Freedom mandates are spreading amongst all Australian universities as this movement gives structure and numbers to otherwise isolated academics. So far 9 universities have formal Freedom Speech mandates in lace and a dozen or more are well down the track to also signing Universitoes administrations up as members. Still a way to go as Australia has about 50+ universities but it’s a good start, especially when universities with Freedom Speech Mandate membership can use it as a marketing tool when competing for students.
