The Biden admin is considering using outside firms to track extremist chatter by Americans online, an effort that would expand the govts ability to gather intel but could draw criticism over surveillance of citizens.

Berkshire had it’s annual shareholder thingy. Buffett sez

WARREN BUFFETT: Let me answer that, then Greg can get more into that. We’re seeing very substantial inflation – it’s very interesting. I mean, we’re raising prices. People are raising prices to us. And it’s being accepted. Take home-building. I mean, you know, the cost of– we’ve got nine home builders in addition to our manufactured housing operation, which is the largest in the country.

So we really do a lot of housing. The costs are just up, up, up. Steel costs, you know, just every day, they’re going up. And there hasn’t yet been because the wage– the wage stuff follows. I mean, the– the UAW writes a three-year contract, we got a three-year contract.

But if you’re buying steel at General Motors or someplace, you’re paying more every day. So it’s an economy, really– it’s red hot. I mean, and we weren’t expecting it. I mean, all our companies, when they thought when they were allowed to go back to work at, well, various operations, we closed the furniture stores, I mentioned.

You know, they were closed for six weeks or so on average. And they didn’t know what was going to happen when they opened. And they can’t stop people from buying things. And we can’t deliver them. They say, well, that’s OK because nobody else can deliver them either, and we’ll wait for three months or something of the sort.

The backlog grows, and then we thought it would end when the $600– the payments ended, and I think around August of last year, it just kept going. And it keeps going and it keeps going and it keeps going. And I get the figures. Every week, we go over, day by day, what happened at the three different stores in Chicago and Kansas City and Dallas.

And it just won’t stop. People have money in their pocket, and they pay the higher prices. And when corporate prices go up in a month or two– and that was the price increase for April 1– our costs are going up, supply chain’s all screwed up for all kinds of people. But it’s a buy– it’s almost a buying frenzy, except certain areas, you can’t buy at.

You know, you really can’t buy international air travel. And so the money is being diverted from a little– some piece of the economy into the rest. And everybody’s got more cash in their pocket than– except for, meanwhile, it’s a terrible situation for a percentage of the people.

I haven’t worn a suit for a year, practically. And that means that the dry cleaners just went out of business. I mean, nobody’s bringing in suits to get dry cleaned, and nobody’s bringing in white shirts the place where my wife goes.

The small business person, if you didn’t have takeout and delivery services for restaurants, you got killed. On the other hand, if you’ve got takeout facilities, then, same-store sales at Dairy Queen are up a whole lot, and they adapted. But it is not a price-sensitive economy right now in the least. And I don’t know exactly how– what shows up in different price indices. But there’s more inflation going on than– quite a bit more inflation going on than people would have anticipated just six months ago or thereabouts.

And some interesting notes on his other comments

    ———-

Buffett is really fired up talking about renewables and how you can’t turn off the coal plant until you have transmission from wind power to where it is actually used.
    .
    .
Buffett notes that U.S. pays 17% of GDP for healthcare while no other major country pays more than 11% yet we get poorer results.[we do?]

There is talk about finally yanking that bitch Cheney off her committees. Possible successor – Elise Stefanik.

Hubby absolutely ADORES her – calls her ‘Elise’, which is rare.

Cheney made the mistake of tweeting something to the effect that anyone thinking the election was stolen is perpetrating a lie. The ratio was glorious. “Can’t wait till you lose your next election by 40 points”

Allies of GOP leader vow to oust Liz Cheney

They argue that the No. 3 Republican has repeatedly contradicted McCarthy and his team, undermining the party’s message and its efforts to take back the House majority in next year’s midterm elections.
    .
    .
The developments suggest it is not just members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus who are pushing to get rid of Cheney; senior lawmakers in the 154-member Republican Study Committee, the largest GOP caucus on Capitol Hill, have been openly critical of Cheney and are now trying to orchestrate her removal.

“This is a broad range of lawmakers who have had it with her,” said a second McCarthy ally. “She’s a liability, and McCarthy’s as fed up as the rest of us that she is focused on the past rather than winning back the House.”

Central Intelligence Agency Director William Burns sent an internal memo to agency staff praising the jury in former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin’s trial and sharing his willingness to indulge the whims of the “racial justice” movement.

In the memo obtained by The Federalist, Burns celebrated the guilty verdict as “one step forward” and encouraged the intelligence agency to continue prioritizing “accountability.” Burns also pledged to continue “addressing the broader trauma of racism and persistent inequity in our nation” by prioritizing “progress on diversity, equity, and inclusion”

If it was a smallpox or polio or black death pandemic I would get on board with mandator vaccinations. Covid-19 not so much. We are a much more mobile world and yet the fatality rate is insignificant. Remove the co morbidities and its even less. I’m in the high risk area with no vaccination. I’m not worried if I kick the bucket if I get it. I just dislike breathing issues when ill.

Backup all your data to DVD. And wipe the system out and reinstall it. Your techie friend should be able to assist on both. Just make sure you have a registered copy of windows to install from.

You could also do that backups and then roll back your install to a point in time before Microsoft patched your system. And broke everything. 🙂

It’s good to have a backup of your system handy. And a boot disk. You probably need your microsoft login handy and tested.

You could also uninstall all apps and then install just Skype to see if that works. Type uninstall apps in the Microsoft search bar and it will pull up the panel that does the unistalls. Leave the microsoft stuff that runs the system install. IF you don’t know what an app is you can search ” should I unistall appname from Windows?” Someone else will have technically posted yes or no on the internet.

(backup everything first) write down your windows login.
    1. Reboot pc uninstall skype. Reboot then install skype, reboot and test.
    2. If that fails, uninstall all apps on the system and repeat line 1. (this should remove corrupted DLLS.
    3. IF that fails, wipe the disk and reinstall windows. This will give you a virgin registry. Then install skype and test. Everything else will be gone from your pc.
    4. IF in the odd event skype still fails then it’s probably a firewall port issue. You could check this first.

    https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA148/which-ports-need-to-be-open-to-use-skype-on-desktop

I’d also unplug my cable modem for 30 minutes and release my DHCP connection.

    https://www.faqforge.com/windows/release-renew-dhcp-lease-windows/

What all that means if that you are trying to release or overwrite deteriorated or corrupted internet connections or local files. Turn everything off and back on and install new.

I did this awhile back to remove a virus and it was a 2 day process for me on my slow internet connection as Microsoft software reaches back into the cloud for better versions of files.

2.Run the PC Checkup, then under System Cleaner tab, run Registry Cleaner, Common Cleaner and Advanced Cleaner.

3.Go back to the PC Checkup tab and click on Program Uninstaller, it will take a few minutes to download and open. On the right-hand side in the header area is an icon for Universal Apps, it’s the 3rd one to the right of the white search box, click on it and scroll down to uninstall Skype.

4.Rerun the Registry Cleaner in step 2.

5.Run Regedit and remove any traces of Skype that may have been left behind. If you’re not sure how to use Regedit open the link below, don’t worry if you’re not using the Skype for Business version, it works the same. Keep using the ‘find next’ function until it says finished searching the Registry. The instructions are a little over a 3rd of the way down the page. Delete the Skype folder from Program Files/Microsoft/ and from Users/(username)/AppData/Roaming/Skype (it’s a hidden folder), if they still exist and reboot.

In other thoughts – Tucker and Frank Luntz

2 nights in a row that Tucker has gone after Luntz. I don’t believe for a minute that this all ‘just came up’. Tucker has an agenda. I don’t know what it is. Luntz has been clear that he’s not a conservative. As for Kevin McCarthy renting a room in his house – I hate to tell you, but this is not uncommon. There are always cross-the-aisle friendships and sharing townhouses on the Hill or wherever when Congress is in session is not uncommon. Tucker was disingenuous tonite when he noted that Luntz’s apt probably cost about $5k/mo (correct) and then conflated the rent McCarthy is paying for a room at $5k/mo.

So, I don’t know what’s up but I found the entire segment very disappointing. Innuendo and misdirection.

this is insane. Tucker outlines how he called McCarthy’s office and was told first that McCarthy rents hotel rooms or sleeps in his office when he’s in town but staff will get back to him. When staff got back, Tucker was told about the Luntz connection due to the pandemic.

Here’s the thing. All the hotels were closed. Tucker never tells you that. If McCarthy was depending on hotels he was SOL.

    quotes

Tucker: What does the corona virus pandemic have to do with Kevin McCarthy’s choice of apartments? (See how dishonest this is? It’s about the availability of hotel rooms, not apts)

Tucker: The Chinese unleash a virus on the world and all of a sudden Congressional leaders have to live with Frank Luntz?

the rest of it is garbage. Tucker says in some places prices for apartments fell – which is true – but McCarthy has never had an apt so would not have the stuff you need to keep house – like sheets, pots/pans, etc.

this is absurd. I have no truck w/McCarthy. I remember when his name first came up back in the Paul Ryan days and I nailed him for having an affair with another member, Renee Elmers. But this Luntz/McCarthy agenda is not what it appears to be, Tucker has something else going on. And now I don’t trust him.

Nice 2 engine landing…… which is the optimised configuration when calculating the ideal 2500 ‘ flip manoeuvre and still minimising the fuel burn vs. single engine landing fall back position vs. the requirement to use a lower flip altitude if carrying out a 3 engine landing.

The minimum throttle able lavel of these engines is 40% and with 3 engines all at a nominal 40+% you need to flip lower which hangs your arse out over the edge with a required 1500 foot flip and a suicide landing that leaves no time to escape the approach ‘hole’ you’ve dug for yourself.

It’s counter intuitive. When you can land with a single engine anyway it’s better to use a 2 engine approach and landing s you have a fall back Plan B just in case. with a single engine landing all of your eggs are in one basket and you are exposed during a landing for much longer from a higher altitude after your flip manoeuvre say 4500 feet. Getting a second engine lit in time is debatable in case you loo=se the single engine.

A three engine landing seems the best option but it’s not. Having a minimus throttle able setting of 40% on all three engines requires you to have a lot of energy to use up that minimum thrust and that means leaving the flip until the last moment 1500 ‘ … the suicide landing option. Great when it works but not so good when it doesn’t

    🙂

Hey it’s all under control Eagles. Starship is merely exploring the WHOLE flight envelope and that includes finding out where the edges of that envelop are. The apparent crashes were just the learning experiences for Space X. Expect less explosions from here on out as the envelop becomes understood and systems refined to allow for Plan B and even Plan C contingencies.

    No admin password was provided.

I imagine there was a Maricopa county meeting with the head of Maricopa IT and the IT techs who ran the election. They couldn’t produce an admin password. To me that means the password resides at the vendor and part of the contract disallows Maricopa IT from having access to it. Or they are just lying.

I worked election IT a bit and there was strict control over logins. And a lockdown on changes months sometimes a year or so before any changes to the system. The vendor contract probably reveals this.
