Tossed an email to a structural engineer buddy, here’s his take on the I-40 bridge.

    Sup brother….

This is a weird one…… for one, steel hardly failed in a sharp cut like this (shear failure). Steel bends, yields, stretches, that’s why steel is a “ductile” material. I do feel that this could be a bad steel that has been previously cut and “weld” back; so over the year, the “welds” failed.

Now, the location where it fails is a terrible location. This is where the panel point occur and where the highest stress is, but again, just hard to believe it failed in this fashion.

Twitter comment spotted a few minutes ago is good.

It was a fatigue crack. Construction began late 60s implying designed in the mid-60s and this was before fatigue considerations were added to the bridge code. Note it takes on the order of millions of stress cycles before fatigue cracks form; this is why it didn’t fail day 1.

Rumors are swirling that the recent firings of top Italian spies were related to Obama and a plot to set up candidate and President Trump in a Hillary email scandal.
Earlier this month Italian Prime Minister Conte asked for the resignations of four top intelligence officials after his call with President Donald Trump.
    .
    .
Members of Italian intelligence were approached by Hillary Clinton, the Obama Administration, and the Deep State in order to frame Trump by PLANTING EVIDENCE on American servers to force Trump to step down from office.

In other words, members of Italian intelligence found a target in Occhionero, a Republican-sympathizer who had two servers for his company, Westland Securities, located in America. One was in Washington State, and the other in West Virginia.

The plan was for Italian Intelligence to hack into these servers, plant classified emails from Hillary’s servers inside these servers on American soil, and then alert the FBI.
    .
    .
The FBI would then raid these locations, “discover” these e-mails, investigate, link these servers to Trump…

And then force Trump to resign.

Occhionero believes that Obama and the former leader of Italy, Matteo Renzi, worked together on this plan and he provides reports of their meetings in Italy before the 2016 election and in early 2017.

China to bid on D.C. Metro rail deal as national security hawks circle

Reuters) – China’s CRRC plans to bid on a big Washington D.C. subway project as it doubles down on a charm campaign in the United States to quash a rising chorus of critics who have cast the rail car maker as a threat to cyber security and U.S. industry.

The world’s largest maker of passenger trains has roared into the U.S. market in recent years, clinching contracts in Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago and Los Angeles by underbidding rivals – including Canada’s Bombardier – by hundreds of millions of dollars.

It plans to bid this month on the D.C. Metro rail car contract, worth more than $500 million,

    more infor

Arizona Senate President Karen Fann requested Maricopa County officials meet with her next week to resolve issues related to the 2020 election audit, particularly whether someone deleted a main database from the Election Management System last month.

Fann made the request in a Wednesday letter sent to Jack Sellers, chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.

“We have recently discovered that the entire ‘Database’ directory from the D drive of the machine ‘EMSPrimary’ has been deleted,” Fann wrote, claiming the missing directory is covered by the Senate’s subpoena, which allows the group to seize elections materials for the audit.

    https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/arizona-senate-questions-whether-maricopa-county-erased-key-election-files

That sounds like a log file to me. Not good if it was under subpoena, but I don’t think it’s fatal to the audit. Could be wrong.

    9 | May 13, 2021 4:11 pm

    @ eaglesoars:
That does sound like logfiles. We would backup them up nightly to tape and another hard drive dedicated to log files. Then run a batch job that wiped the directory every two weeks. If they deleted the directory d:/databases it was some type of adminstrative thinker.

The EMSprimary was probably repointed to another directory. It can’t function if a required directory doesn’t exist. Would appear in the error logs as a machine complaining.

Deleting a database is not the same as deleting the \directory unless the database resides in that location.

I’d wonder why the directory was deleted and find the person that deleted it. I’d cringe when my boss reported back to everyone inaccurately on the IT behind the database.

I’ve posted about this before but just a reminder

States have authority to fine or jail people who refuse coronavirus vaccine, attorney says

Legal precedent dates back to 1905

The legal precedent dates back to 1905. In a landmark U.S. Supreme Court case, Jacobson v. Massachusetts, the court ruled Massachusetts had the authority to fine people who refused vaccinations for smallpox.

That case formed the legal basis for vaccine requirements at schools, and has been upheld in subsequent decisions.
“Courts have found that when medical necessity requires it, the public health outweighs the individual rights and liberties at stake,”

    https://www.10news.com/news/local-news/states-have-authority-to-fine-or-jail-people-who-refuse-coronavirus-vaccine-attorney-says

    ok, here’s my response.

Informed Consent is also a legal requirement and there is not enough data about the vaccines to allow that prereq.

Key to ketosis ( I made a funny ) is an ounce or less of carbohydrates per day. That isn’t easy.

Funny you should say you went into ketosis by accident. Same here.

I am making a serious attempt to quit drinking. That is why I don’t post here much now. Stop laughing Bunk!

Anyway on my birthday in March I quit. I knew how much I was drinking on average and it was about 1000 to 1500 calories per day from wine and beer. Meals were once a day and things like eggs and bacon, chicken or beef and veggies, string cheese.

Well one morning a few days after I quit drinking woke up and I smelled funny. Like nail polish remover. Was eating the same one meal per day as when I was drinking. I knew what the smell meant.

Was going 5-6 days without a drink then relapsed for several days then back to no alcohol. Same thing.

To cut a long story short this cyclical quitting then starting then quitting has gone on for two months. Monday I decided to take the Keto thing seriously.

    Hence the piss test….

LOL, I feel like shit. It is called “Keto flu” because the brain has to get used to being fed ketones not glucose.

I will not bore people with the real dangers of this Keto diet thingy but, you are going to get it anyway. Nowhere have I seen reference to this on the Internet.

Keto diet is fat, protein and very little carbs. If you eat loads of fat and somehow carbs sneak in your body uses those preferentially. You drop out of ketosis almost immediately and the fat you ate becomes…. FAT!!!!

This Keto diet is all or nothing.

    https://space.stackexchange.com/questions/36870/what-do-astronauts-eat-for-pre-flight-breakfast

Steak and eggs are high in protein, low in carbs and fiber, which is what you want for “low residue” — i.e. minimizing bowel movements.

Prior to Shepard’s flight, this was a standard choice for military jet pilots assigned to long solo flights, where there was no option to leave the cockpit to use a bathroom. Early astronauts would try and keep to a similar high-protein low-residue diet for a few days prior to the flight as well as the preflight breakfast.

Glenn and Georgie are identical twins. Perfect assassins. No one can prove using DNA evidence who committed the crime.

I can’t even prove without reasonable doubt who pissed on my pillow.

Space Force CO Who Got Holiday Call from Trump Fired Over Comments Decrying Marxism in the Military

A commander of a U.S. Space Force unit tasked with detecting ballistic missile launches has been fired for comments made during a podcast promoting his new book, which claims Marxist ideologies are becoming prevalent in the United States military.

Lt Col. Matthew Lohmeier, commander of 11th Space Warning Squadron at Buckley Air Force Base, Colorado, was relieved from his post Friday by Lt. Gen. Stephen Whiting, the head of Space Operations Command, over a loss of confidence in his ability to lead, Military.com has exclusively learned.

IMO a risk diversification portfolio should have about 5 percent crypto.

Just my opinion. Coinbase app for the phone is the best way to explore crypto.

3 main coins right now. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Cordano/Ada

Bitcoin could suffer if a smart government undercuts them.

Ada is at $2 a coin today and is an easy weight to get a feel for this type of economy. It’s supposed to fork in two weeks and double in value. Sounds like a gold rush. It is a gold rush. Mining is a big meme. A lot of the miners will get wiped out if they borrow their stakes.

I just buy $20 every payday instead of starbucks. money I can lose. Nothing is certain here.

The Wuhan Institute of Virology scrubbed the U.S. National Institutes of Health as one of its research partners from its website in early 2021. The revelation comes despite Dr. Anthony Fauci insisting no relationship existed between the institutions.

On March 21st, 2021, the lab’s website listed six U.S.-based research partners: University of Alabama, University of North Texas, EcoHealth Alliance, Harvard University, The National Institutes of Health (NIH), the United States, and the National Wildlife Federation.

One day later, the page was revised to contain just two research partners – EcoHealth Alliance and the University of Alabama. By March 23rd, EcoHealth Alliance was the sole partner remaining.

This trick comes in handy. Make a loop and tie a square knot. Now grab a short end and the adjacent line and give them a firm yank. The square knot will pop into a slip knot that slides off.

Another lauded a problem called “the roots of empathy” which they are having all first graders participate in. looks ok. https://rootsofempathy.org/mary-gordon/

Maricopa County employees 13,000 people. If they are an average county then that means they have 1 DBA for their elections systems. 1-3 programmers. 1 IT tech. They purchased Dominion on a bid and allotted 5 people to learn the system. And it looks like the Dominion system was so complex that those 5 couldn’t handle it and reached out to the vendor. The vendor then ran the election for them with Maricopa IT in a support role.

Not a good way to run an election. Dominion would have to be onsite or working from a cloud seat to manage the election. It’s more likely they did it from a secure cloud situation. And the elections manager wasn’t aware enough to realize that the election process became compromised by allowing that.
