Crisis Du Jour Open

Well, the ‘crisis’ in Ukieland is over.

Breaking — Russian troops begin withdrawal from Ukraine border…

Now what will the white house do to avert attention away from this failure of an administration?

    SUBterfuge.

An Annapolis, Md., man pleaded guilty Monday to attempting to give confidential information about the Virginia-class submarine [USS Minnesota] to an unnamed country.

Jonathan Toebbe likely now faces a sentence of between 12.5 and 17.5 years, unless the court chooses to not accept the plea deal, in which case Toebbe will also be allowed to withdraw his plea.

Toebbe and his wife were each charged with one count of conspiracy to communicate restricted data and communication of restricted material. Toebbe was an employee of the Department of the Navy, serving as a nuclear engineer with the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.

Authorities say he also provided instructions on how to conduct the furtive relationship, with a letter that said: “I apologize for this poor translation into your language. Please forward this letter to your military intelligence agency. I believe this information will be of great value to your nation. This is not a hoax.”

Not dancing to that tune again until I see real indictments, real trials, and real convictions of the ringleaders of this bunch of insurrectionists. ‘Minority Report’ Becomes Reality – DHS Will Arrest You Before You Commit A Crime

In the 2002 Tom Cruise film, “Minority Report” a government unit called Precrime arrests people before they have committed any offense based on information obtained from a trio of mysterious siblings with some sort of psychic powers. We aren’t quite there yet, but the U.S. government appears headed toward a similar effort using information obtained from artificial intelligence (AI).

The idea is that AI has the capacity to analyze data and predict events, specifically in this case regarding insurrection. In this case, though, we are not talking about coups or revolutions abroad. We are talking about insurrection right here at home, specifically a repeat of the attempted “revolution” of January 6, 2021.
    .
    .
The proponents of this approach could not be more excited. “We now have the data — and opportunity — to pursue a very different path than we did before,” said Clayton Besaw, of CoupCast, a machine-learning-driven program based at the University of Central Florida. He was celebrating the fact that we can now – in his opinion – prevent any reoccurrence of January 6th by acting in advance to stop “political violence.”

The idea behind this concept of predicting acts in advance is to empower AI to monitor a broad range of factors, economic data, “social trust” levels, weather, etc., and produce predictions of behavior in advance of the occurrence of any events. We won’t need to wait for a mob to form or even for a group to organize. We will arrest you before you even know you want to form a group.

“For the 2024 election God knows we absolutely need to be doing this,” said Sheldon Himelfarb, chief executive of PeaceTech a group pushing the use of AI in this way. “You can draw a line between data and violence in elections.”

Even as the use of AI in this way is still being perfected, the Department of Homeland Security has already reorganized to maximize its use and utility. A new ‘Center for Prevention Programs and Partnership’ (CP3) has been established. It focuses on what is said on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media platforms and attempts to predict behavior.

According to the DHS press release announcing the formation of the new group, “DHS’s efforts are grounded in an approach to violence prevention that leverages behavioral threat assessment and management tools and addresses early-risk factors that can lead to radicalization to violence.” According to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, future criminals “typically exhibit behaviors that are recognizable to many but are best understood by those closest to them, such as friends, family, and classmates.”

“As a way to gauge potential threats, potential narratives that animate people to action, the online space is where that’s at,” says Oren Segal vice-president of the Center on Extremism at the Anti-Defamation League. “This is why the insurrection was predictable from our point of view, because the planning and the organizing was happening in plain sight. … This is not an easy issue, but one thing we can all agree on is that in order to get ahead of the next threat, you need to go into the spaces in which the extremists are present.”

Good lord. 28 comments ALL DAY??!! What the hell are you people doing? I take one day off to play Domestic Goddess and yinz sit around with your thumbs up your asses. Get back in the game.

    Ok. Emerald Robinson on Durham.

My own theory is simple: Durham exists so that the FBI can regain some credit with the American public (“hey, those Clinton people lied to us!”) while directing the media narrative away from Obama. You already see this misdirection in the corporate media headlines this week: Hillary did it. Durham exists, in other words, as a kind of insurance policy against the ambitions of the Clintons. His real goal is keep his investigation afloat through 2024. That would explain his slow, slow, slow progress. If Hillary Clinton suddenly decides to run in a primary against Biden/Harris for the 2024 ticket, then Lady Macbeth and her old campaign staff (Sussmann, Elias, Sullivan and the rest of them) will find themselves in very hot water.

If you find it implausible that national security officials spend all their time interfering in domestic politics and rigging elections — all I can say is: what cave have you been hiding in for the last six years? Perhaps you should listen to Overstock’s ex-CEO Patrick Byrne explain how he assisted the FBI in setting up Hillary Clinton to accept a $18 million bribe in 2016 — a bribe that Byrne claims was engineered by James Comey to help President Obama keep control of Hillary once she won the election.

In O’Rourke’s lifetime, it was liberalism, not conservatism, that was winning the Gramscian battle for hegemony in our institutions. And so O’Rourke went on the attack, oftentimes dropping the guise of sly humor and instead picking up an un-velveted hammer. As he wrote in another of his books, Give War a Chance (1992): “At the core of liberalism is the spoiled child—miserable, as all spoiled children are, unsatisfied, demanding, ill-disciplined, despotic and useless. Liberalism is a philosophy of sniveling brats.”

Those brats, O’Rourke continued, would grow up to be even more of a menace: “There is nothing more mealy-mouthed, bullying, irresponsible and victimized than a well-coddled self, especially if it belongs to a liberal.”

Lee “Stag” Sheldon [Stagger Lee] didn’t shoot Billy Lyons over a game of craps. They were drunk and discussing politics in a saloon when Lyons grabbed Sheldon’s stetson and wouldn’t give it back. Sheldon shot him in the gut, picked up his hat and walked out the door.

The St. Louis Globe Democrat, 1895
William Lyons, 25, a levee hand, was shot in the abdomen yesterday evening at 10 o’clock in the saloon of Bill Curtis, at Eleventh and Morgan Streets, by Lee Sheldon, a carriage driver. Lyons and Sheldon were friends and were talking together. Both parties, it seems, had been drinking and were feeling in exuberant spirits. The discussion drifted to politics, and an argument was started, the conclusion of which was that Lyons snatched Sheldon’s hat from his head. The latter indignantly demanded its return. Lyons refused, and Sheldon withdrew his revolver and shot Lyons in the abdomen. When his victim fell to the floor Sheldon took his hat from the hand of the wounded man and coolly walked away. He was subsequently arrested and locked up at the Chestnut Street Station. Lyons was taken to the Dispensary, where his wounds were pronounced serious. Lee Sheldon is also known as ‘Stag’ Lee.

Fatal Great White Shark attack in Sydney’s Little Bay beach. A man was partially eaten by a 4 meter Great White. The first fatal shark attack at a Sydney surf beach in 60 years.
I might say that this is where as a 16 year old my baby brother decided to swim between the rocky heads of Little Bay. ” It’s only 400 meters across I told my brother who was 6 at the time. We can do it standing on our heads. Fir some reason I was also wearing a weight belt to compensate for the wet suit buoyancy. Half way across my brother started to say that he was getting tired. I considered dumping the belt and it’s lead but persisted and told my brother to climb onto my back. Swam the last 250 meters like this and it almost killed me!

The guy was swimming between the headlands, right where my brother and I were swimming. In one shot there is a large flat area where you can enter the water close to the heads of the bay. That is where we entered as well. Yesterday had a sizeable swell running and there was surf breaking. The day we swam between the headlands was flat and smooth. Getting out of the water on the southern headland was a bit of a task as it was broken rocks and crevices all over the place. At least we didn’t run across a shark.

Actually Great Whites are not that common close in to Sydney beaches. There are the off oceanic sharks but they are not really common. Sydney Harbour on the other hand is shark central, especially the highly aggressive Bull Sharks. Not too large at 3 meters but they make up for that with sheer ferocity. As a kid I remember a 1 Commando Regiment (swimmer/ diver) being taken in the harbour at 1AM just off Shark Island. It was IDed as a Bull Shark. He was doing a Sydney Harbour night transit swim across the harbour between Middle Head and the southern shore near Rose Bay.

Middle Harbour (part of northern Sydney harbour) is FULL to OVERFLOWING with huge sharks. Anyone who puts their toe in the waters of Middle Harbour or the breeding creeks sharks need to drop their pups is totally out of their hands. The only idiots that swim in Sydney Harbour are Commandos from Middle Head Commando Regiment (and not even they dare swim in Middle Harbour ) and migrants who just DON’T
    KNOW any better.

The beach itself lays behind the remains of the Coast Hospital. It’s mostly derelict now and there is sub-divisions encroaching on the bay. Back in the day I used to fish off the beach for Whiting and as a kid one of my mates built a large diving raft moored off the beach. We used to drop fish traps from the raft. Initially we couldn’t understand why the traps were always empty but the bait was eaten. It seems that the late shift nurses used to swim after a nightshift and clean our fish out of our trap early in the morning. WE (12 year olds) visited the senior Sister in charge of the night shift to complain and she ‘fixed the problem’.

    🙂

My mate was the son of the warden of Long Bay Jail and the ‘trusties’ helped us build our raft in the wardens yard. We then took 3 hours to man-handle the raft mounted on two ‘billy-carts’, the 2 Km down to Little Bay and launched it. Tied to large boulders on the bay’s bottom for security. Ahh those were the days.

    🙂

As a kid I knew that behind the Coast Hospital was a Leprosarium and we kids were careful to never go near the derelict site for fear of catching leprosy!

    🙂

    HEH

Stupid kids we were. Didn’t understand that lepers were very non-contagious. There were not even any lepers living there when we were swimming down at the beach.

    @ eaglesoars:
Most major surf beaches in Sydney have been ‘meshed’ by Randwick Council for at least 90 years, hence almost no shark attacks. Tiny beaches like Little Bay were however never meshed as there were few swimmers and mostly just rock fishermen … and the odd crazy bunch of semi-feral kids… us!

I really do not understand this. From my inbox

This chilly, unassuming city was ranked the hottest market in January based on an analysis by Realtor.com®. The rankings factor in a combination of demand (measured by the number of unique views per home listing) and how quickly homes are selling in that area.

In Manchester, property listings in January received 3.4 times more visitors than the national average, with homes lingering a mere 33 days before being snapped up by buyers. (The national average for days on market is nearly double that, at 61 days.)

Due to this high demand, the median listing price of homes in the Manchester-Nashua area has risen 11.1% over the past year, to $450,000, which is well over the national median of $375,000.

Manchester’s reign as the hottest market is no fluke, either, as this is the ninth time it’s topped these rankings in the past year. Real estate agents and brokers in the area speak of open houses overrun with buyers making offers on the spot.

“It’s definitely a sizzling-hot and crazy market,” says Manchester real estate broker Pamela Young, of Re/Max Insight. “Many homes are placed under contract immediately after an open house.”

Overall, America’s hottest markets this month highlight more affordable places outside of bigger, more expensive cities. But some pretty pricey places ended up on this list as well. So what’s behind Manchester’s undisputed hot streak?

“Manchester, NH, sits squarely at the very intersection of current trends,” says George Ratiu, manager of economic research for Realtor.com. First and foremost, “it’s a short distance from the Boston metropolitan area.”

In the Boston metro, median home prices spiraled to $725,000 in January, which may be driving homebuyers to search farther afield for more affordable places to live. Manchester, located two hours away, may seem like the perfect compromise, particularly for the growing number of homebuyers who are clocking more work hours from home.

“Remote work has moved from a pandemic necessity to a preferred reality for millions of workers across the country,” says Ratiu. “In practice, these changes are spotlighting communities located within a two-hour drive from a major urban employment center, a broadening of the traditional commute radius.”

    @ coldwarrior:
Well I left the UK in 1998. At that time there was a pilot project run by British Telecom. The directory enquiry service, I think it is 411 here.

From what I remember some of the 411 operators were in remote parts of the country. The directory information was stored on their computers so wherever the operators were they could access it.

All they needed was a telephone connection and calls were routed to them in their homes. No central office, no driving to work….

And get this! The pilot project was done in the islands off the North of Scotland. You know, the Hebrides and outer Hebrides islands.

The places where they got a supply boat every week or so depending on weather.

During breaks they could face to face chat with other 411 operators who were on break via a slow video link.

Obviously some jobs need a person to be physically present at a location. However this COVID panic has proved many do not.

I have no data to back up my thoughts, but I bet office space rental rates in cities have taken a dramatic downturn.

Manufacturing facilities rental rates remain the same.

Horrific. Attacked from below at high speed he stood no chance. He was wearing a wetsuit and it’s possible that the shark mistook him for a seal, or was attracted by speared fish he was carrying. Fish were schooling at the time.

I was late tuning in, but on Bannon’s morning show, Ben Harnwell was on and I THINK he was talking about the U.S. A 5 year old boy needs heart surgery, a lot of blood will be required, the parents want to be sure none of the blood comes from a vaxed person and the boy is not vaxed. The hospital refused to do the surgery, the parents sued.

The court removed the parents as custodial and has given the boy to the courts.

Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna are gearing up to release their respective mRNA (messenger RNA) “vaccines” into the Australian market, though under different names.

Pfizer-BioNTech is calling its Down Under jab “Comirnaty” while Moderna is going with “Spikevax,” which is fitting considering it turns the human body into a spike protein factory.

The name changes are presumably intended to try to hide the dark underbelly of these shots, which are linked to disease and death.

“It’s OK – they’re all the real deal,” reassured News.com.au. “You’re not getting an Aldi-esque version of a vaccine, where the pack looks similar to a big name but it’s a different brand.”

This prominent Australian news outlet went on to admit that Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna are attempting to “dial down their corporate names” by changing the names of their injections, the goal being to lure more people into taking them.

    This was a surprise:

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham lifts New Mexico mask mandate

In a surprise announcement Thursday, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham says she is ending New Mexico’s indoor mask mandate. The governor says the state and country are trending in the right direction when it comes to COVID-19. “I’m announcing…that the mask requirement for indoor settings is gone,” said Gov. Lujan Grisham.”
    Read Current Public Health Order

The Governor made the sudden declaration during a news conference centered on the end of the 2022 legislative session Thursday afternoon. When asked about masking in schools, Governor Lujan Grisham confirmed the decision also applies to students in public schools.

“Those are personal decisions that families will make,” Governor Lujan Grisham said Thursday when asked to elaborate on the mask mandate and consideration over continuing to apply it to schools. The governor says she will continue forward with COVID-19 vaccine mandates.

The mask mandate will still apply to areas with more vulnerable populations like hospitals, nursing homes, and congregate care settings.

YouTube to censor “new misinformation” preemptively

The tech giant plans to use machine learning to become “faster and more accurate at catching…viral misinfo narratives.”

YouTube’s Chief Product Officer Neal Mohan described how the video-sharing platform will start “catching new misinformation before it goes viral” in a blog post. The process will involve continuously training YouTube’s machine learning systems with “an even more targeted mix of classifiers, keywords in additional languages, and information from regional analysts” to identify “narratives” that YouTube’s main classifier doesn’t catch.

Mohan added: “Over time, this will make us faster and more accurate at catching these viral misinfo narratives.”

FDA Warns Consumers Not to Use Certain Powdered Infant Formula Produced in Abbott Nutrition’s Facility in Sturgis, Michigan

Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced it is investigating consumer complaints of Cronobacter sakazakii and Salmonella Newport infections. All of the cases are reported to have consumed powdered infant formula produced from Abbott Nutrition’s Sturgis, Michigan facility. As a result of the ongoing investigation, along with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state and local partners, the FDA is alerting consumers to avoid purchasing or using certain powdered infant formula products produced at this facility. This is an ongoing investigation, and the firm is working with the FDA to initiate a voluntary recall of the potentially affected product.

The FDA is advising consumers not to use Similac, Alimentum, or EleCare powdered infant formulas if:

the first two digits of the code are 22 through 37; and
the code on the container contains K8, SH or Z2; and
the expiration date is 4-1-2022 (APR 2022) or later.

    From Christia Freeland’s wiki bio

She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Russian history and literature from Harvard University.[5] During her time at Harvard, she visited the Soviet Union as an exchange student to study Ukrainian, although she was already fluent in the language. While there she attracted the attention of the KGB, which tagged her with the code name “Frida”, and Soviet newspapers, who attacked her as a foreigner meddling in their internal affairs over her contacts with Ukrainian activists. The KGB surveilled Freeland and tapped her phone calls, and documented the young Canadian activist delivering money, video and audio recording equipment, and a personal computer to contacts in Ukraine. She used a diplomat at the Canadian embassy in Moscow to send material abroad in a secret diplomatic pouch, worked with foreign journalists on stories about life in the Soviet Union, and organised marches and rallies to attract attention and support from western countries. On her return from a trip to London in March 1989, Freeland was denied re-entry to the USSR.[24]

By the time her activism within Ukraine came to an end, Freeland had become the subject of a high level case study from the KGB on how much damage a single determined individual could inflict on the Soviet Union. In a 2021 interview with the Globe and Mail, one former member of the intelligence service called Freeland as “a remarkable individual”, and described her as “erudite, sociable, persistent, and inventive in achieving her goals”.[24]
    .
    .
She has lived in Toronto since the summer of 2013 when she returned from abroad to run for election.[26][92][33] She speaks Ukrainian at home with her children.[93] She also speaks English, Russian, Italian, and French.[94] In 2014, John Geddes reported that Freeland and her sister co-owned an apartment overlooking Independence square in Kyiv.[95]

The Kiwi Police Commissioner just totally caved. For the past few days he was into his ‘Gestapo phase’, throwing his weight around (quite an accomplishment for a woke soy latte sort of bloke), threatening to confiscate illegally parked vehicles and arrest anyone and everyone. Then he got a dose of reality from his operational police staffers who warned him that upsetting thousands of peaceable people was not really a good idea, especially so then the cops are outnumbered twenty to one.

Seems Herr Commissioner has had a ‘Road to Damascus’ moment. Instead of throwing folks into the ‘clink’ he’s now sending Police negotiators to chat to the various leaders of the demo and to ask them nicely to shift a few of the vehicles to allow normal business to happen in downtown Wellington in the area close to Parliament. Meanwhile because a few crazies in the cops broke out the riot shields and batons , against orders I might say, or just because they were showing their ‘inner thug’ side, the cops now have three times the numbers of demonstrators in place as the tent-city grows apace.

There is now a ‘coffee and muffin bar’, a kindergarten, a primary school, a fully staffed medical unit, a radio station and a utilities group keeping all of the logistics of food delivers, toilets, showers, running. By ‘monstering’ the demonstrators Parliament have effectively goaded them into setting up their own town outside Parliament.
Currently the demonstration is doubling in numbers every 5 days. This, of course, can’t go on forever, or they will just run out of room.
Meanwhile all but one Parliamentarian have refused to even talk to the demonstrators. David Seymore (actually he’s my local MP and the Leader of ACT)of the right wing ACT Party, has been in regular contact. It is telling that the MPs of the Centre Right have fallen into line with the Left and hard left parties. We have way too many PROFESSIONAL Politicians in this country! Self serving bastards all.

    Interesting day so far.

Power went off at just after 8am until 1:30pm again. This is the third day in a row. Due to ” System reliability enhancement work ” Taking a look outside they are replacing all the ground based transformer thingies in the apartment complexes here.

Power just came back on again, I may take a casual stroll around the complex to see how many they replaced so far and calculate how many more days of this shit I have to endure. One transformer per block, twelve blocks here.

PLUS for added fun, for the last few weeks they have being doing an assessment of the foundation of the apartment block I live in. Two stories totaling 14 apartments.

I live on the second floor and for the last two Mondays I have been given notice to move all my furniture out so they could inspect the foundations.

Well that isn’t happening! ( if you live on the second floor where are you going to put furniture? ) and I stayed home those days waiting for them to come, and they did not.

Yesterday many swarthy and sweaty men dug holes all around the apartment building. That was fascinating for my cats to watch.

Today they have generators running and what seems to be hydraulic jacks lifting up the building. Every 30 seconds to two minutes there is a huge bang that vibrates everything in apartment. Seriously, I am sitting in a chair and it feels like I am being kicked in the ass.

Then it stops, and pneumatic drills start for 10 mins or so, then back to the rhythmic kicks in the ass and TV wobbling on its stand.

    The cats are NOT happy.

For anyone intrigued as to why when living in a second floor apartment I was repeatedly asked to move all my furniture out so workers could access the foundations it is kind of like in the USA it is MM/DD/YYYY and in the rest of the world it is DD/MM/YYYY

In American speak I live on the second floor. The first floor is the one under me. That is the ground floor to anyone not of American origin.

Now, as the majority of people living here, and the ones managing this apartment complex are not of American heritage then where I live is the first floor, which is up in the air. The ground floor is where the foundations are.

Contractors asked for all rooms on the first floor to be cleared, which is in America the one closest to the ground where obviously the foundations are. BUT, in English, and Spanish the first floor is the one above the ground floor. Which is actually the second floor in America speak.

“two countries separated by a common language” is so very true.

We were always VERY VERY careful loading fuel in the US because of that. There were three different changes in the way fuel was measured. Everyone knew it and everyone triple checked the calculations independently.
We are not just calculating volumes of fuel. We are also calculating weight of fuel that is being measured to account for temperature in BOTH degrees C and degrees F.

Actually this is in line with FAA regs. It’s up to the aircraft captain to decide what could possibly constitute a risk on HIS airplane once the doors close. Re-opening the door doesn’t nix that decision. Aircraft captains have virtual dictatorial powers on THEIR aircraft. Read the fine print on your ticket!

I only had two times that I was involved in ‘controlling’ passengers.
One was where a drunken Rugby team was giving female cabin crew trouble. We diverted to a tiny airfield in the middle of nowhere where the cops met the aircraft. The whole team was thrown off and their base piled in a heap behind the aircraft. They had a 5 mile walk along a country road in the middle of the night to reach the nearest town.

Te other incident was a drunk and drugged woman running off with her lover from NZ to Sydney. We were on a ‘Route Check’ and the ‘Check Captain went back to remonstrate with her and she kicked him in the balls. She was wrestled to the deck bt cabin crew, Handcuffed and strapped into a seat down the back. Surrounding passengers were taken up to 1st. Class to get them away from her. In Sydney she acted all sweet and nice until she assaulted a female cop . The Sydney cops threw her onto the deck grabbed her by the legs and dragged her down the aisle and down about 20 stairs onto the tarmac. They then threw her through the air into the back of a paddy-wagon and took her to jail.

Sounds like the Victoria State cops. They have been known as thugs since the 1870s and their senior cops are mostly Masons who hated all of the catholic irish gold miners and came VERY close to sparking a revolution in Victoria … The Eureka Stockade’. The Irish miners all got drunk the night before their march on Melbourne and the government and the cops cleaned them up in their beds. The leaders were captured and were going to be hanged but when 10,000 armed miners turned up outside Victorian Parliament and threatened to burn Melbourne to the ground …. the miners’ leaders were released without charge. The ‘war’ however has been going on for 150 years with the Victoria Police and the cops are known as thugs and criminals.

The right hand horse in the last line of three did the damage. The brown middle horse reined right to push demonstrators back to the right. The black right hand horse with the white blaze and white socks squeezed up on the right of the brown and ran right over the woman in the red and blue parka. You can see both cops of the brown and black horses pulling right rein to move the horses right up against the crowd. The woman got trapped with nowhere to go except under the black horse. The guy who seemed to be with her also got pushed but fell under the brown horse and was then trampled by the second black horse on the left, the rider of whom made it very obvious that he wanted to trample the guy on the ground.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued sweeping new guidance yesterday for natural gas projects, including a first-ever climate change threshold, upending decades of precedent for how major energy infrastructure is approved.

FERC updated a 23-year-old policy for assessing proposed natural gas pipelines, adding new considerations for landowners, environmental justice communities and other factors. In a separate but related decision, the commission also laid out a framework for evaluating projects’ greenhouse gas emissions.

    when will people learn?

A China-based bio-fermentation products maker coming to the United States is being touted as a win for the local economy, but there’s growing concern over its national security implications and potential ties to forced labor.

The Epoch Times spoke to Ross Kennedy, founder of Fortis Analysis, about his recent research concerning China-based company Fufeng Group Limited that’s poised to set up shop in midwestern America. Fufeng is a manufacturer of bio-fermented products derived from corn, which are used in end products ranging from animal feed to pharmaceuticals. A Hong Kong-listed company, the group has multiple subsidiaries around the world, but most of its production facilities can be found in northeast China.

In early November, it was announced that Fufeng Group is in negotiations to bring its agribusiness company to Grand Forks, North Dakota. The new plant, which employs a manufacturing process revolving around the fermentation of corn starch, is expected to consume about 25 million bushels of corn a year. The cost of construction is estimated to near $350 million. Fufeng USA, the company’s American subsidiary, is handling the new endeavor.

    This is the headline:

Judge in Trump conspiracy case links Jan. 6 to history of racist violence

    but it’s not the story

On Friday, Federal District Judge Amita Mehta ruled that a civil suit alleging a conspiracy to foment the Jan. 6 insurrection could proceed. In an extremely thorough and detailed 112-page ruling, Mehta concluded that the plaintiffs had made a “plausible” case that former President Trump himself was at the center of a conspiracy to stop the peaceful transfer of power.

While plausibility is not the same as proven, Mehta’s ruling is the first time such a finding has been made in an official proceeding.

It brings the nation one step closer to learning the truth about Trump’s role in the Jan. 6 insurrection. It keeps alive an important avenue for holding him accountable for his actions.

And it paves the way for the work of the U.S. House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol.

What you are seeing from our intelligentsia is not righteous anger. It’s howls of terror that their gravy train may end. Along with snobbery and that eternal human preoccupation, social climbing.

“Nobody sensible can feel threatened by anything that comes out of Saskatchewan.”

The brutality in Ottawa is not a warning. It is a promise, a statement of the future. The working class will end their lives in moldering houses they can’t afford to fix, with minimal health care. They won’t even be able to RV to our National Parks.

Think I’m wrong? A gallon of gas where I live is $8.00. Remember how big Canada is.

Think I’m wrong? Friday the 18th, the Federal Fisheries Minister announced the death of the East Coast Fishery, a traditional occupation that has been the base of the Maritimes’ economy for 300 years.

She declared that she “was going to leave as many fish in the water as possible, and to grow as much vegetation in the water as possible so that the Atlantic Ocean could absorb as much carbon as possible”.

In human history, every time a nation falls under control of a narrow elite that monopolizes economic opportunities and political power, that nation fails.

And when nations fail, a lot of people die.

The dominant groups at the protest were the rural working class and immigrants who escaped from socialist hellholes to what they thought was a free country.

Time the rest of Canada stood the fuck up.

While that’s true, it’s a separate issue. Those are individual criminal cases. If you connect the dots, rains post makes sense.

Beyond the fact that they acted like Nazi thugs (and certainly enjoyed it), this is just too far. If you get between me and my fresh ground black coffee, there’s going to be trouble.

As for the first two reports, if they know they can’t really legitimately arrest protesters and they’re simply dropping them off down the road, that seems to me to be a similar criminal offense to false arrest (and maybe worse).

I believe the formal name for this would be kidnapping.

Anyway, I suspect that “support the blue” thing is rapidly evaporating in Canada with this behavior (just as it is in the U.S. with SWAT raids, asset forfeiture, bad treatment of people who carry firearms, indemnification of police in bad shootings, vocal support for gun control and permitting schemes, and a host of other awful things). I also suspect that for every protester they mistreat or kidnap or trample with horses, they create a thousand new ones. As for the lady who wanted coffee, we should all condemn the cops in complete disgust for that offense.

From the perspective of COIN (counterinsurgency) doctrine, they have learned nothing from the misadventure in Afghanistan.

Then again, neither did our doomed elitists. They can talk about COIN all they want to and write pedantic and silly papers until they’re blue in the face. They never understood it then, and still don’t today. They never knew what they were doing.

I have solar panels on the roof of my RV. The basic rule of thumb for those is that you want enough battery capacity to run for three days, because it takes about one day to recharge them using solar, and you’ll probably average one good day out of three.

Most residential solar installations don’t include batteries, though. They don’t power the house they’re installed on at all. The power is fed back into the grid, and they give you a credit on your utility bill for the value of what your panels produce.

Trudeau Government Moves to Make Expanded Surveillance Powers over Financial Transactions ‘Permanent’

That broadened power requires all forms of digital transactions, including cryptocurrencies, to be reported to the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Center of Canada. (I.e., “Fintrac”). “As of today, all crowdfunding platforms and the payment service providers they use must register with Fintrac, and they must report large and suspicious transactions to Fintrac,” Freeland said. She justified the move as a way to “mitigate the risk” of “illicit funds” and “increase the quality and quantity of intelligence received by Fintrac and make more information available to support investigations by law enforcement.”

    If Italy lasts that long

    Here is a terrifying read.

Parliamentarians in Canada do not seem to understand that now their former colleague, Justin Trudeau, can arrest not just truckers, whose lawful protest has been declared illegal, but also the Parliamentarians themselves. This is, sadly, the next step in this kind of drama, historically. It is an extraordinarily dangerous sign that Parliament is not seated. When the Australian Parliament was suspended, by the time they reconvened, their powers had been dramatically curtailed. Tyrants seek to normalize the convening of Parliaments as “optional” or to suspend normal Parliamentary processes long enough to hollow out a legislative body’s deliberative powers, and to ensure that when and if a Parliament (or a Congress, for that matter) meets again, it will be merely a ceremonial assembly.

The Trudeau government says the Emergencies Act needs to stay in place for now because of potential “future blockades”.

Few are listening any more to the clueless Justin Trudeaus and bumbling Joe Bidens and all the toxic hypocrisies they embody.

    By Victor Davis Hanson

    February 20, 2022

Canada is now governed by absurdism, and it is symptomatic of an ailing Western elite.

Liberal Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last week invoked martial law to arrest and financially destroy truckers on the charge that their largely peaceful protests are “dismantling the Canadian economy” that had already been dismantled for two years under some of the most draconian lockdowns in the world. The trucker “sect,” Trudeau added, is guilty of felonious “unacceptable views.” But his rhetoric still cannot square the circle of demonizing vital workers while conceding he cannot run his country without them.

He has invoked the Emergencies Act for the first time in the law’s 34-year history, even as the highly infectious Omicron variant wanes after spreading natural immunity and yet proving relatively mild in its effects. Trudeau has neither science nor good governance on his side, especially given how civil the protests have been. The truckers, who more or less work in solitary cabs, are better informed about the “science” and are themselves mostly vaccinated.

Whether by accident or intent, the truckers have now become iconic of far larger issues. Their resistance to government vaccination mandates transcends them. And so, they are playing the role of the proverbial straw that may break the back of a once compliant Canadian citizenry, burdened by over two years of masks, lockdowns, and vaccination mandates.

They are Howard Beales yelling, “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!” or the iconic Tunisian peddler Tarek el-Tayeb Mohamed Bouazizi whose self-immolation prompted the Arab Spring, or Tank Man who stood erect in Tiananmen as an oncoming tank finally swerved around him. The truckers are saying to the Canadian people, “Watch and we will kindly show you why you always privately suspected that this prime minister and his ilk were frauds.” As in the case of earlier exasperated rebels, we do not know the exact consequences that will follow, only that the leaders who targeted the dissidents will likely end up worse than their targets.

The North American public has endured almost daily nonsensical changes in “follow the science” state edicts, as well as vast asymmetries between those who profited and those who were hurt by the government reactions to the pandemic. On the one hand, Trudeau threatens to use his state powers to ruin financially the protestors and their supporters. On the other hand, the prime minister brags that he participated in the Canadian versions of the BLM protests in summer 2020. Here in the United States, the combined BLM/antifa riots of summer 2020 caused the greatest property damage claims of any riot in U.S. history, around $2 billion. The violence eventually led to over 35 deaths, the torching of a federal courthouse, police precinct, and historic Washington D.C. church, over 1,500 police injuries–and, mysteriously, very few indictments of the some 14,000 people arrested. Is Trudeau’s point to stress that destroying things make protestors more authentically left-wing and thus exempt, while mostly peaceful protests lose deterrence and therefore can be crushed?

The North American Left justifies such asymmetry both in crude terms and in ideological gobbledly-gook. A Trudeau official called the truckers “Trump supporters,” as if that label has any relevance other than to justify the government’s violation of civil liberties. Does Trudeau think a “Trump supporter” necessarily polls worse than a “Trudeau supporter”? The foppish man who in his youth thought it cool to be photographed sporting blackface is quick to demonize a multiethnic and multiracial protest as “racist”?

Left-wing administrations in Toronto and Washington feel that the supposed higher social goals of the antifa and BLM violent protests (that purportedly advance their own political agendas) warrant exemptions of every sort. More than 1,000 U.S. healthcare workers went on record in 2020 justifying street protestors’ flagrant violations of strict COVID-19 lockdowns, at the height of the pre-vaccination pandemic.

We were lectured that curbing any BLM protest might cause mental health problems. Should noncomplying truckers and their boosters try that ruse?

The asymmetric application of punishment depends solely on the degree to which any given violation aids or detracts from left-wing agendas. A postelection Time magazine piece by Molly Ball gave the game away. She bragged how CEOs and plutocrats conspired to modulate the pulse of the Antifa/BLM violence to ensure calm for Joe Biden’s election—and more or less summed up the larger progressive elite impulse (“There was a conspiracy unfolding behind the scenes, one that both curtailed the protests and coordinated the resistance from CEOs. Both surprises were the result of an informal alliance between left-wing activists and business titans.”)

COVID accentuated a larger and growing cultural, political, social, and economic split in the West. Partly, the fissures were brought on by the displacements of globalization. Partly they appeared with the final dominance of a huge class of credentialed government apparatchiks. And partly the split derives from the paradox of governments inviting millions of non-Western immigrants into Europe and North America from impoverished, and dystopian societies. Their inequality upon arrival, supposedly predicated on race rather than class, then becomes political nourishment for progressive redistributive agendas that otherwise had little political support among their citizen populations.

Again, the truckers symbolize this gap, in an age when elites do not care much for class divides, only racial distinctions as a way of demonizing the less well-off.

After all, those who smear the truckers are mostly of the zoom and laptop class. Their chief agendas during the last two years of crisis were sheltering in place to avoid contact with anyone, while zooming and skyping to maintain and boost their already generous incomes. Few like Trudeau ever wondered how the elite remained fully employed, but rarely present at work—much less why millions of others were expected to scoff at the virus and come physically to work, while their incomes often dived or ended due to government lockdown policies.

The muscular classes enjoyed no such exemptions. Their kids went to public schools that were shut down or required masks. Parents lost incomes as they stayed home to watch children that tenured teachers would not teach. Truckers had no such margin of safety or security, but were out among the public delivering food, fuel, clothing, and the appurtenances of the Western comfortable lifestyle. In our current inflationary spiral, they earned a bit more, while inflation made them poorer, while those they served earned far more.

The truckers remind Western audiences that modern progressivism equates muscular labor and hourly wage compensation with a sort of Neanderthalism. That is, the unfortunate clingers supposedly never quite understood globalization, much less how an 8-billion-person market rewards those who type on keyboards and, in relative terms, punishes the supposedly less aware who physically deliver, fix, make, and repair things.

    DAVE CHAN via Getty Images

We can almost reduce the divide to the embarrassing optics of a pouty-face pajama-boy prime minister, with a pompadour coiffure, issuing threats to calm, but beefy and calloused workers. Each time Trudeau speaks to his nation, the visual message is that any of the truckers could do a better job than he in both setting and explaining policy, while he would become a helpless weeping child if placed behind the wheel of a big rig.

Somehow the elite class extrapolates moral worth from its rigged superiority in financial compensation. And given its economic and cultural leverage—social media, entertainment, academia, professional sports, the corporate boardroom, Wall Street—it has institutionalized the idea that, in circular fashion, the more the credentialed and better compensated, the more the elite deserve even more influence on how societies should run in a manner that mostly benefits themselves.

Paradoxes arise constantly. Government grandees are caught without masks at tony restaurants. Climate change demagogues fly private jets. Pro-teacher union, anti-charter and anti-home school zealots ensure their children stay in private schools. The gated estate crowd ridicule the fossilized idea of a border wall. Professional bureaucrats routinely lie under oath to Congress and to federal investigators without any consequences whatsoever—as John Brennan, James Clapper, Anthony Fauci, and Andrew McCabe can attest.

To explain California Governor Gavin Newsom sporting about without a mask at elite gatherings, we are supposed to assume that his class deserves exemption from the ramifications of its ideology—in order to travel faster, sleep better, have a larger support network, and relax in deservedly larger homes and gardens—all so that they could better save us chumps and clueless dregs from ourselves.

Our elites like Trudeau and Newsom seem angry they are unfairly underappreciated by their clueless beneficiaries. The latter supposedly never appreciate the needed remedies for climate change, the thought cleansing required to eliminate systemic racism, and the mind reprogramming demanded for true diversity, equity, and inclusion thinking.

Instead, the losers cling to unwoke and incorrect notions that class, not race, remains the real postmodern divide, that printing money does not make us richer, that a nation without a border is an amorphous nothing, that affordable gasoline and diesel fuel (not wind and solar) for now keep the West alive, that a fetus is alive at conception, that biology largely determines gender, that assimilation and integration are the only cures for tribalism, and that the law reflects a natural innate morality, and should not be applied on the basis of perceived victims manipulated by it, or the supposed victimizers manipulating it.

That wound of an imperious but counterfeit elite has suppurated too long beneath a smooth scab. And abruptly, the truckers at least tore some of it off.

What is now following is amplification and clarification of the Western divide. We the public are at the global theater. And we are watching a tragicomedy. On stage, a petulant cast of clueless Justin Trudeaus and bumbling Joe Bidens simply cannot fathom why few anymore are listening to them. More and more North Americans are perplexed why anyone would wish to follow such unimpressive mental and physical figures along with all the toxic hypocrisies they embody and weaponize.

I do agree. I don’t hold much hope in the Canadian Governor General telling soi-boi Trudeau to pack his bags and leave. She is after all his appointee and comes from the liberal left end of the spectrum, even though she is supposed to be non-political and just looking out for the ‘folks’.

Chinese experts have slammed accusations made by the Australian government that one of China’s naval vessels pointed a laser at an Australian surveillance aircraft, illuminating the aircraft while in flight in Australia’s exclusive economic zone in the Arafura Sea off the country’s Top End.
All modern warships are equipped with lasers. These are used largely to determine the firing range and designate a target immediately before discharging a weapon.

It is considered dangerous for at least two reasons. Pointing a laser is often referred to as “painting a target” before firing live munitions, such as artillery shells, machine guns or missiles. It is widely seen as a hostile act, just short of crossing the threshold of open conflict or war.

An expert with close ties to China’s People’s Liberation Army, who went unnamed, told the paper laser rangefinders are used on most modern warships to determine distance.

Okay….then they won’t mind when the RAN P8 “determines distance” with a Harpoon missile?

The Queen CAN fire the GG however I don’t think that has ever happened as the Queen is ‘ADVISED’ by the relevant Prime Minister on HIS pick for GG and she always chooses one of his picks.
The Queen and through her the relevant GG holds RESERVE POWERS that can dismiss Parliaments if the Queen or her GGs think that Parliaments and Prime Ministers do NOT have their peoples interests at heart. The Queen or GG appoints a shadow Administrator for the 6 weeks it takes for new elections to be organized and run, and that is often but not always the Leader of the Opposition.

The reason why Australia, NZ and Canada stayed with the current system where the GG / Queen retains primacy is that the Queen / GGs are non-politicized and can dismiss a Parliament / Prime Minister if he begins to exceed his powers and turn into a dictator. Having an elected President is a POLITICAL position and brings with it all of the downside that a politized position holds. It also means that a Politized President who goes feral can be ‘got rid of’ through an immediate general election, rather than having to wait out a President’s term of office. Especially so if said President can use his remaining term to cement into place a ‘ Tyrant for Life’ situation

It comes down to the lesser of two evils.

Physicists build circuit that generates clean, limitless power from graphene

    https://www.thebrighterside.news/post/physicists-build-circuit-that-generates-clean-limitless-power-from-graphene

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – A team of University of Arkansas physicists has successfully developed a circuit capable of capturing graphene’s thermal motion and converting it into an electrical current.

“An energy-harvesting circuit based on graphene could be incorporated into a chip to provide clean, limitless, low-voltage power for small devices or sensors,” said Paul Thibado, professor of physics and lead researcher in the discovery.

The findings, titled “Fluctuation-induced current from freestanding graphene,” and published in the journal Physical Review E, are proof of a theory the physicists developed at the U of A three years ago that freestanding graphene — a single layer of carbon atoms — ripples and buckles in a way that holds promise for energy harvesting.

What you need is a 193 nanometer UV laser. The type that is used for Lithography in the production of integrated circuits.

That frequency is not transmissible through the eye’s cornea, so it does no damage to the eyes. It does however ionize oxygen in the air and provide a channel through which Tesalazing radiation can be passed. Alas NO

The Commonwealth Games due later this year have about 70 nations competing. They include most of the old British Empire of Nations including all of the ones who decided to become Republics.

The Commonwealth is NOT a MILITARY PACT, and many members are actually members of the Non-aligned nations grouping led by India.
Australia post WWII gained the knowledge and experience through members working on the Bomb in the US and UK to potentially make their own nukes. Asa Australia was the site for all of the UKs nuclear and thermo-nuclear testing it was 100% up to date in the technology. Oz began building two Plutonium Breeder reactors in Nowra south of Sydney to provide power to Sydney and Plutonium for an Australian bomb. The US stomped on both the UK and Oz and threatened to wreck their economies if they allowed Oz to get the bomb. The reason that Australia wanted to go nuclear was that they saw China and believed that the US would not support Oz if it came to a nuclear shooting war as protecting Australian cities were not worth losing US cities over. That is the current state of play. In the meantime ANU has developed a cheap and clever way to enrich uranium to weapons grade. That gave the US conumptions and the US swore Oz to NEVER share THAT technology with ANYONE , even the UK, as it was just to dangerous to nuclear proliferation.

    Correct.

Even a Level III laser can seriously damage eyes at lower powers like 5-10 mW. Yet you can shine a 195 nanometer mid range UV laser at 5-50 watts into someone’s eyes and have no effect as the cornea of the eye doesn’t pass that frequency through the eye.

Red lasers, green lasers IR near UV lasers all cause serious eye damage.

Yes, using lasers to blind is banned under Geneva convention. Not that the Chinese would care. However, laser range finders operate in bands that can damage eyes (1.5 microns) at high enough powers. Laser targeting devices work at a lower wavelength that is even more dangerous to eyes but are routinely used in military settings. They just aren’t “deliberately” being used to blind, so that’s what makes it OK.

Piezoelectric devices require physical motion to generate electricity. From what I’m reading from Eagle’s post, this is using the intrinsic molecular motion of the graphene molecules and does not require external physical input like bending a quartz crystal. I suspect the energy input to remain within the laws of physics is ambient thermal energy that makes the molecules remain in motion.

Electing a potential dictator as President for 4 years means that you have a very steep hill to climb to get rid of him before his term expires.

Having a Leader of the Government elected by his Party for an open ended period leaves one with many options to get rid of him quickly if he is not performing. Although a PM is elected by his own party he has to face DAILY possible Votes of No Confidence by the WHOLE Parliament (including the opposition) in the House every single day. A simple majority can see the end of the career of a PM at any time. Then there is the seldom used RESERVE POWERS of a Governor General representing the Queen as the ultimate backstop in preventing the rise of a Dictator, by dismissing a government and enforcing new elections.

That is true up to a point. The original generation of laser designators operated at 1.06 microns and could cause severe eye damage because it could penetrate deeply into the eye. The next generation of “eye-safe” designators operate at 1.5 microns and are not able to penetrate deeply. However, with enough power, even they can cause eye damage. My dad was the Station Sergeant based at Kings’ Cross Police Station for many years, when Delany was the Commissioner of Police. The various gambling dens were off limits to the cops as the Police Commissioner ran the lot of them. This was before the days of huge casinos.

When I was (a young) 12 my dad took me for a tour of ‘His Patch’, including all of the ‘characters’ like ‘Bumper Farrell’ a notorious cop from 41 division who was the muscle if needed, Nora the ‘Witch of Kings X’, who offered to ‘educate me’ when I got a wee bit older, and all of the local assorted ‘girls’, thugs and cops. My eyes were out on stalks!

A life insurance company has refused to pay out on a life insurance policy for a person who died from a COVID-19 vaccine injection…..because COVID-19 vaccines are considered experimental medication or treatment. The insurance company explained that the side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine were published and the insured party should have known that taking part in a dangerous medical experiment could have resulted in his death. The insurance company likened his death to suicide,

Fond memories of my vacation in Australia. Flew to Sydney and stayed a few days in a hotel there. Then rented a car and spent a few more days traveling to Canberra and other out of the way places.

Got back to Sydney and went to check in to the hotel I stayed at when I arrived. Just for a night before my flight back to UK.

    NO CREDIT CARD!!!!

Hotel in Sydney asked me when was last time I used it. They then called the hotel that was in the middle of nowhere and got the reply ” yes we have his card, he left it on the desk here when he checked out.

Hotel in Sydney told them to destroy it for me and checked me in as they still had my details.

    That was customer service A+++

The denizens of The Cross, were pretty well behaved in a debauched sort of a way. The cops kept a lit on the place but Friday and Saturday nights the influx of feral losers from Western Sydney made for some great punch-ups. The cops always ensured that it was they who threw the telling last punches! Otherwise it was a well run place, even in the depths of the Viet Nam war when tens of thousands of Yank Army and Marines descended on The Cross. I remember joining a bunch of US Marines who had just come from fighting in Kay San. I was a cadet aircrew on leave from Point Cook 1BFTS. There were lots of partying at Whiskey- a- go go, and the Burbone and Beef steak eatery next to the el-Alamaine fountain in the heart of the Cross. Yesrs later I discovered that the guys running the Burbone & Beef Stake were all CIA. I revisited years later but there was only one ex-CIA guy left by then.

Kyiv and Lviv, Ukraine (CNN)Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered troops into separatist-held parts of eastern Ukraine in what the Kremlin called a “peacekeeping” mission, just hours after he signed decrees recognizing the independence of the Moscow-backed regions.

In a fiery speech on Monday night, Putin blasted Kyiv’s growing security ties with the West, and in lengthy remarks about the history of the USSR and the formation of the Ukrainian Socialist Soviet Republic, appeared to cast doubt on Ukraine’s right to self-determination.
“Ukraine has never had traditions of its own statehood,” he said, calling the eastern part of the country “ancient Russian lands.”

This is a complete fictitious story. Such stories pop up since March 2021 and have their origin mostly in Russia, Ukraine and are spread via social media and blogs in Kanada, Italy, Spain and Germany all over the “Western” world. No names, no date no case reference number no name of which court was involved.

Even the named lawyer Carlo Alberto Brusa although he has ties to the anti-vaxxer movement, asked by DPA (Deutsche Presseagentur) and AFP (Agence France-Presse) denies to have ever heard of such a case or have been involved in the non existiing case of the “rich grandpa from Versailles”.
Insurance associations in Europe and die United States deny that such cases could ever happen.
