TREASON??!! WTAF??
Some background: The Jones Act is a federal law that regulates maritime commerce in the United States. The Jones Act requires goods shipped between U.S. ports to be transported on ships that are built, owned, and operated by United States citizens or permanent residents.
https://gcaptain.com/shots-fired-in-jones-act-debate/
Shots were fired this week when a newly released US Maritime Administration (MARAD) document from 2020 showed that a Department of Transportation (DOT) advisory committee recommended that members of the Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank that’s opposed to the Jones Act, be charged with treason. Treason is a federal crime punishable by death. MARAD did not take action on the recommendation but new threats to the Jones Act are emerging which could sink the 102-year law.
The documents were part of a freedom of information act (FOIA) request filed by Cato which included recommendations from a March 2020 meeting of the DOT’s Marine Transportation System National Advisory Committee (MTSNAC). It advised the DOT to unequivocally support the Jones Act and “charge all past and present members of Cato and Mercatus Institutes with treason.” MTSNAC also asked the President to “inform the Heritage Institute that he will personally disavow them if they continue to advocate against the Jones Act.”
I would note that the death penalty for treason is operable only during a declared war. Which is why our tax dollars are still feeding Aldrich Ames.
I haven’t read any of them yet, but this piece has links to the Treasury’s take on digital currency. Have at it.

#BREAKING China ex-leader Hu ‘not feeling well’ when left Congress: state media
Aussie news coming up first.. https://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/chinas-communist-party-congress-to-end-with-xi-set-for-third-term/news-story/6697b0867594484f3ed525a9915d0a17
Chinese President Xi Jinping locked in support for a historic third term in power at the Communist Party’s Congress on Saturday, but the dramatic removal of his predecessor from the event stole the headlines.
At the end of the week-long gathering in Beijing, China’s ruling party approved a sweeping reshuffle that saw a number of top officials — including Premier Li Keqiang — step down, allowing Xi to appoint new allies.
However, in an unexpected move that punctured the proceedings at the Great Hall of the People, former leader Hu Jintao was led out of the closing ceremony.
State media reported late Saturday that Hu was “not feeling well” when he was removed.
“When he was not feeling well during the session, his staff, for his health, accompanied him to a room next to the meeting venue for a rest. Now, he is much better.”
Delegates then approved a call obliging all party members to “uphold Comrade Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole”, according to a unanimously passed resolution on changes to the party charter.
This will allow Xi to sail through to a third term as China’s president, due to be announced during the government’s annual legislative sessions in March.
A list of officials in the group revealed that four out of seven members of the party’s Standing Committee — the apex of power — would retire.
Han and Li Zhanshu were widely expected to step down, having surpassed the informal age limit of 68 for Politburo-level officials — a requirement not extended to 69-year-old Xi.
Other high-profile Communist Party top brass absent from the new Central Committee include high-ranking diplomat Yang Jiechi and economic tsar Liu He.
Analysts were closely watching for whether the party charter would be amended to enshrine “Xi Jinping Thought” as a guiding philosophy, a move that would put Xi on a par with Mao Zedong.
Xi previously abolished the presidential two-term limit in 2018, paving the way for him to rule indefinitely.
“Xi’s power will be akin to that of the dictator of China, and there will be next to no scope for anyone to advise him to attempt course correction,” said Steve Tsang, director of the SOAS China Institute at the University of London.
Delegates also on Saturday enshrined in the party’s constitution opposition to Taiwanese independence. Beijing has always pledged to re-take the self-ruled democratic island, by force if necessary.

Ok, to summarize Chang from his twitter feed.
The party line is that he was having a medical issue. He was due to give a speech. No speech now.
Nobody believes it but whatever.
The current take away is that this is an audacious move by Xi to let people know exactly what he’s willing to do in order to maintain power. He was setting the example. Hardliners are in, reformers are out. No mercy, no wasting time.
There will be no ‘intra-party democracy’. It is a one man state.

Close Xi Jinping ally Zhang Youxia, 72, set for bigger PLA command role
Three PLA generals over 68 missing from Central Committee roster, signalling exit from top military decision-making body in line with retirement norms
Exception made for Zhang Youxia, who stays on despite being well past 68 and is set to become first vice-chair of Central Military Commission
Given that many of Xi’s military reforms were still in critical stages of completion, it “makes a lot of sense” for Zhang to stay for one more term, Liang said.
As many as 14 new military officials are on the 20th Central Committee, which will steer the country for the next five years.
The youngest among them is 55-year-old General Chang Dingqiu, who succeeded Ding Laihang as the PLA Air Force commander in September last year.
The others include Wang Haijiang, 59, head of the Western Theatre Command since August last year; Lin Xiangyang, 58, named commander of the Eastern Theatre Command in January; Wang Xiubin, also 58, in charge of the Southern Theatre Command since June 2021; and Li Qiaoming, 61, former chief of the Northern Theatre Command.
Also on the list is General Liu Zhenli, former commander of the PLA ground force. A news report by state broadcaster CCTV earlier this month showed him at a meeting wearing an arm badge of the CMC Joint Staff Department – the PLA’s top command organ.
A person close to the PLA told the Post on condition of anonymity that Liu was likely to replace Li Zuocheng as head of the department, as Li is set to retire.
Liu’s appointment would be in line with PLA tradition, which favours generals with combat experience and those from the ground force.
Liu joined the PLA in 1983 and spent decades in the former Beijing Military Region covering northern China. He fought in the Sino-Vietnamese border conflict in the 1980s, for which he received a first-class merit award.
Xi has chaired the CMC since coming to power in 2012 and is expected to hold on to the position if he is confirmed for an unprecedented third term as party leader.
The party chief has been in control of the military since former paramount leader Deng Xiaoping’s political reforms in the 1980s.

Good morning!
This is the only interesting thing I’ve picked up so far
‘Fragile’ Treasury market is at risk of ‘large scale forced selling’ or surprise that leads to breakdown, BofA says
For months, traders, academics, and other analysts have fretted that the $23.7 trillion Treasurys market might be the source of the next financial crisis. Then last week, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen acknowledged concerns about a potential breakdown in the trading of government debt and expressed worry about “a loss of adequate liquidity in the market.” Now, strategists at BofA Securities have identified a list of reasons why U.S. government bonds are exposed to the risk of “large scale forced selling or an external surprise” at a time when the bond market is in need of a reliable group of big buyers.
“We believe the UST market is fragile and potentially one shock away from functioning challenges” arising from either “large scale forced selling or an external surprise,” said BofA strategists Mark Cabana,
.
.
In a note released Thursday, they said “we are unsure where this forced selling might come from,” though they have some ideas. The analysts said they see risks that could arise from mutual-fund outflows, the unwinding of positions held by hedge funds, and the deleveraging of risk-parity strategies that were put in place to help investors diversify risk across assets.
In addition, the events which could surprise bond investors include acute year-end funding stresses; a Democratic sweep of the midterm elections, which is not currently a consensus expectation; and even a shift in the Bank of Japan’s yield curve control policy, according to the BofA strategists.
Translation: Nobody’s buying what we’re selling because our economic policies suck canal water.

An interesting story from Sen. Leahy’s memoirs. He and his wife were out for a walk at their Virginia residence. He had been studying some intel about Iraq (This is during Bush 43). They were overtaken by a couple joggers who told him to ask for a specific file in the SCIF room. He did, read it, out for another walk. Same joggers. Now ask for THIS file. He did. THAT intel was very different from what the admin was showing them.
————————
And that reminded me…..
I’ve told this story before. It’s years old, when Molly was still with us and she died in 2013. She was maybe 5 or 6, which would have been 2007-8. I’d had her out for a walk. Lovely Saturday, all the kids out playing in the cul de sac, a few Moms and Dads supervising As usual, they all wanted to pet Molly. So we stopped for awhile. Then, tearing into our group was a young Middle Eastern guy – 18-20 yrs old judging by his very sketchy beard, dressed in a tunic, baggy pants and some knit thing on his head. He’d come from a house on the cul-de-sac that had just been rented out. And he was SPITTING – I mean, spittle was flying out of his mouth.
NO DOGS! NO DOGS! NO MORE DOGS! MAYBE BEFORE BUT NOT NOW!!
what the…
I didn’t even think about it. I was wearing hiking shoes and kicked him right in the nuts. It was like somebody turned on a light switch and my leg swung right out. He went down like he’d been hit by lightning. Threaten my dog, asshole, I will grant your death wish. And then we all just went our own ways, left him there in the street, nobody said a thing.
Several weeks later (I think), out walking Molly again, a different route. A female jogger in athletic gear, running toward us, young, pretty, blonde pony tail, stopped me.
Mrs. Eagles?
???
She pulls a lanyard out from under her shirt and opens a wallet-like thing and all I saw was “FBI”.
“That house on the cul-de-sac with the new Middle Eastern family? We’d appreciate it if you steered clear of that for awhile. Is that ok?”
I could just nod my head yes. And she jogged on.
And I didn’t dare to even DRIVE into that cul de sac
Weeks later, maybe 2 months, Molly and I came home from a walk and there was a small vase with one yellow rose by the door. And a note, computer printed in a feminine font. Something to the effect of “It’s safe now, thank you”
I dumped Molly in the house and TORE down to the cul de sac
The house was empty. I did a little dance on the sidewalk. I hope those agents saw it.
Then I tossed the vase, the rose, and burned the note.
Those poor FBI agents who had to track my very boring life…

And altho The National Pulse is still viable with Kassam’s name still on the masthead, he, personally, seems to have disappeared. And now Natalie is no longer attached.
PMI is down. The actual value? Depends on who you ask
BREAKING:
*U.S. OCT. MANUFACTURING PMI FALLS TO 49.9, EXP. 51.0, LAST 52.0
*U.S. OCT. SERVICES PMI FALLS TO 46.6, EXP. 49.5, LAST 49.3
https://twitter.com/Investingcom?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor
S&P Global said on Monday its flash U.S. Composite PMI Output Index, which tracks the manufacturing and services sectors, fell to 47.3 this month from a final reading of 49.5 in September.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/u-business-activity-weakens-again-134848756.html
Maybe the difference is the S&P Global is a composite of manufacturing and services? At any rate, it’s down, it sucks, we’re screwed.
Here’s the entire S&P report

Lesson learned though. It would have been much better to put the meth people into jail when I had the chances to do that. They would have been much better off.
I didn’t have a legal address though. I had to cheat the system to obtain car insurance, to vote, and a bunch of other stuff. Society is highly leveraged into being accountable. I touched the social welfare system a few times and cringed. They want a deep history so they can bill everyone connected with you for any services they provide. IT’s a social credit score on steroids. Yet they get billions stolen from them every year.

When a cardinal dips his beak into the water, he vocalizes. And simultaneously with that little chirp, he flips his tail up.
The mail cardinal twerks.
The birds are becoming accustomed to me. As long as my movements aren’t sudden, they seem comfortable sitting on the deck rail singing away while I just sit there. One nut hatch sat on the table with me, head cocking this way and that. WHAT ARE YOU??

My friends memorial was today.
I talked to his widow for a little bit, and apparently this happened at about 545 last Monday morning. One of his dogs kept trying to wake her up, and when she finally figured out that something that happened, she went in and found him. If the dog hadn’t pushed her into going and checking, he would’ve been gone before she normally got out of bed.
The entire left side of his brain was completely dead. Even if he had lived, he wouldn’t have been able to talk or write or anything else.

Meta fined $24.7M for campaign finance disclosure violations
https://apnews.com/article/business-seattle-washington-8e0dfaf7f9d7246583da33693559d36e
SEATTLE (AP) — A Washington state judge on Wednesday fined Facebook parent company Meta nearly $25 million for repeatedly and intentionally violating campaign finance disclosure law, in what is believed to be the largest campaign finance penalty in U.S. history.
The penalty issued by King County Superior Court Judge Douglass North was the maximum allowed for more than 800 violations of Washington’s Fair Campaign Practices Act, passed by voters in 1972 and later strengthened by the Legislature. Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson argued that the maximum was appropriate considering his office previously sued Facebook in 2018 for violating the same law.

Yeast thrives in a warm environment.
The reason bread is baked is two fold. One, it makes the bread nice and crusty!
Second reason bread is baked is that the high temperature kills the yeast organism.
So this is a warning, never eat under cooked bread. The yeast is still alive and eating under cooked bread allows the yeasty thing to enter the stomach and intestines where it is warm and wet.
I am going to leave the rest to your imagination….

The Dem party is rife w/totalitarian thugs. Look at this poll from last January
– Nearly half (48%) of Democratic voters think federal and state governments should be able to fine or imprison individuals who publicly question the efficacy of the existing COVID-19 vaccines on social media, television, radio, or in online or digital publications. Only 27% of all voters – including just 14% of Republicans and 18% of unaffiliated voters – favor criminal punishment of vaccine critics.
Twenty-nine percent (29%) of Democratic voters would support temporarily removing parents’ custody of their children if parents refuse to take the COVID-19 vaccine. That’s much more than twice the level of support in the rest of the electorate – seven percent (7%) of Republicans and 11% of unaffiliated voters – for such a policy.

OK I am going to quit this water and sugar and yeast bullshit thing. The yeast just eats the easy food. The yeast has to learn to eat flour!!!!
Going back to my three years training in biology and biochemistry.
Yeast eats sugars, but when no sugars are available they eat starchy stuff.
Yeast prefers sugars because they are yummy and easily digested, but yeast will eat starch, as is found in potatoes and flour.
Vodka is made by yeast eating starch.
Going to try a yeast starter with ZERO sugar, the yeast learns to eat flour or it starves.

Give a patient anti fungal and the bacteria says YEAH!!!!
Maybe even though I wash my hands I carry a strain of bacteria that kills yeast.
Or maybe I am just shit at bread making.

I may be over thinking this but the batch of bread that is currently in the oven has zero sugar and I did not touch it with my hands.

I did a forbidden test.. I eliminated TWO variables at the same time. No sugar and no touching the mix with my hands.
But one thing this test proved is you do not have to use sugar to start the yeast.
Reason I want to make bread is commercial bread is too sweet.
Sorry to be boring but this last test proved you do not have to feed yeast sugar to get it all excited. A cup of warm water and two teaspoons of flour got it going.
Not in five minutes as if I used sugar, but it took an hour to do the frothy thing.
Yeast learned to munch on flour….

Tesla engineers reviewing Twitter code
Key points:
1. Musk has ordered a freeze on changes to Twitter code as of noon Thursday, October 27, per Twitter employees. No code checkins are allowed.
2. On Thursday, October 27, Twitter product leaders showed Tesla software engineers (brought in by Musk) the company code. These Tesla engineers are reviewing the code in preparation for a confidential briefing for Musk early next week.
3. Twitter software engineers are locked out of the code, other than a few exceptions personally approved by Musk.

LOL and due to my 11th and 12th grade education in England I know why wine has a maximum alcohol content of 13% and that is pushing it. 12.5% is the usual limit.
And a British education in organic chemistry ( organic chemistry is stuff that is related to Carbon ) kind of makes me laugh that there is a diesel shortage.
Looks like someone has concentrated too much on the fractional distillation and catalytic cracking of crude oil in order to reduce gas prices.
It is really easy to turn diesel into gasoline. The opposite is fucking impossible.

Elon Musk’s takeover means Donald Trump could now return to Twitter.
Some advertisers plan to pause their spending if that happens, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Trump was banned after using Twitter to help fuel the January 6 Capitol riots last year.
Advertisers plan to boycott Twitter if Elon Musk allows Donald Trump back on the platform after he took control on Thursday night, The Wall Street Journal reported.
After paying $44 billion to close the deal he tried to walk away from, Musk swiftly fired four top executives including CEO Parag Agrawal and finance chief Ned Segal.
Advertisers are now weighing in as concerns over former President Donald Trump being reinstated grow.
Kieley Taylor, the global head of partnerships at advertising agency GroupM, told The Journal that letting Trump tweet again would be a red line for some major brands.
About a dozen of the agency’s clients had asked to pause their ads on Twitter if the former president did make a return, and Taylor expected more to be in contact if his permanent ban was lifted, the newspaper reported.

A Halloween recommendation. If you like to read, try The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. I first read it when I was 14. Summer. When they heard sniffing outside the bedroom doors and then banging, I was so terrified I almost climbed out my bedroom window. Fortunately, Mom walked in with laundry I had to do and caught me by my blouse just in time.
It was made into a movie, twice, the first with Julie Harris, which I think is fantastic. The second with Clair Bloome, which I didn’t like as much.
According to Amazon, Netflix did a series on it, but I haven’t seen it
First published in 1959, Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House has been hailed as a perfect work of unnerving terror. It is the story of four seekers who arrive at a notoriously unfriendly pile called Hill House: Dr. Montague, an occult scholar looking for solid evidence of a “haunting”; Theodora, his lighthearted assistant; Eleanor, a friendless, fragile young woman well acquainted with poltergeists; and Luke, the future heir of Hill House. At first, their stay seems destined to be merely a spooky encounter with inexplicable phenomena. But Hill House is gathering its powers—and soon it will choose one of them to make its own.
