No Heisman trophy nominees, no super-stars, no one going to play on Sundays. It’s sport for the sake of sport and for the sake of pride. It’s old school, wing formation, option run offense. Navy is 8-1 when they DON’T throw the ball even once! The quarterbacks on these two sides are just another running back who just might throw the ball a couple of times.
It’s Army-Navy Football. It’s the only game played on week 15. No one would dare schedule another game today.

Navy is a 3 point favorite today in neutral-site Filthadelphia. I’m down to $400/1000 this year, so I suck. I’ll save that $ for bowl games. This is the first time ever that I am in the negative at the end of the season, and I’ve been betting college ball with ‘fake money’ for a good 15 years!
Enjoy the game

The Lying Media Told Me Not To Watch Netflix’s ‘Ancient Apocalypse,’ So I Did
Archeologists and their friends in the media are losing their minds over author and journalist Graham Hancock’s alternative ancient history Netflix series “Ancient Apocalypse.” According to The Guardian, “Ancient Apocalypse is the most dangerous show on Netflix.” It’s “an all out attack on archaeologists,” reads one hit piece on the series. It “promotes a whole lot of bunk,” Slate accuses. “[Graham’s] whole theory is steeped in racism and white supremacy,” alleges another.

I love archeology, for a long time I intended to go into that field. But the more I learned the more disappointed I got. It’s mostly people sniping at each other. But I read all of Stephen Jay Gould and loved it. One time I attended a speech/after party for Donald Johanson (discovered “Lucy”). I asked him about Gould’s theory of Punctuated Equilibrium. He ignored me with a sneer, pretty much, treated the idea with zero respect. He was a snob at the party too. Also had a run in with Napoleon Chagnon (Yanomami tribe, Amazon), who thought his shit didn’t stink. “It’s DOCTOR Chagnon!”. Oh, ok. “Sorry, there’s no one here by that name” and hung up the phone in his face.
Assholes, the lot of them.

…and then you have Gobekli Tape to explain. Back in the mid 1990s an Israeli business partner of mine Ezra Karon, who just happened to be a trained archeologist travelled to the Turkish Syrian border, to a dig called Gobekli Tepe.
They initially wouldn’t allow him access but he had flown in with a group of archeologists from Harvard and he was able to slip in with them anyway. This was the real deal. 9,000 + years BCE and just after the retreat of the ice after the last ice age. His theory was that up to 10,000 hunter gatherers would come together in family groups of about 40, following herds of Orachs (giant cattle) and use the terrain to drive large numbers over cliffs to their deaths. They then salted the meat from local salt deposits but also engaged in religious building and I should imagine quite a bit of gene swapping! 🙂
The detailed carving was extremely sophisticated, especially the images of snakes.
About every 300 years or so they seemed to ceremonially bury these ‘religious buildings’ by stacking them full of broken limestone and covering them over with sod. They then began again to build another religious building.

Terminal velocity. It has something to do with mass, surface area of the body, gravitational pull and stupidity.
No matter how high you throw a standard weight and shape human out of an aircraft the fastest they will go is about 120mph.
As long as they don’t curl upinto a sobbing and deficating soy ball on the way down.
Achievement was actually hitting the net.

Once you get down into the lower atmosphere, yes. Baumgartner reached a maximum speed of 843 mph during his free fall. He was the first (and still only) person to exceed the speed of sound outside of a vehicle.

The degree of co-operation and logistics involved in feeding, watering and organising 10,000 people to smoke and salt large volumes of fresh meat, provide water for 10,000 people in a region with little natural water (Apparently the water availability was restrictively seasonal but still scarce), and have 10,000 people under transportable hide tentage, was pretty clever. And then the management of the stone cutting, transportation and carving plus all of the planning to bring the whole shebang together for a brief 3-4 month of high activity, before breaking camp and all going their own ways for the next 9 months until the next annual Orach migration between winter and summer grazing.

About 50% of the amateur parachutists seemed to have a death wish to one level or another. The other 50% were all safety focused and managing the risk.
One guy (a naval rating from the Navy), no matter where he landed would just stand up, throw the lift webs over his shoulder and drag his parachute through the dirt back to the packing shed. When he opened the chute the next time there would be a shower of dust and bits of sticks and stones showering out. He averaged a partial failure about one in four or five jumps. He was totally nuts!

Landing in the Star Mountains in New Guinea. Hell this guy is flying a Pilatus Porter for crying out load. And he’s got a 20+ degree slope and 1,000 feet of runway. I’ll grant him that it’s definitely a One-Way strip however.
🙂
Used to put my Cessna U-206 onto a strip called Ningle in the Bewani Mountains near the North Coast of New Guinea. Tennis court sized landing pad with a 20 degree slope beginning at the edge of the landing pad. SAs soon as you got wheels onto the ground you opened up the throttle to maintain speed or you’d get ‘cast’ half way up the hill. As you crested the hill you’d close the throttles and stand on the breaks as there was only another ‘tennis’ court sized pad at the top of the slope as well. Use brakes and rudders to turn the airplane around to face back down the hill just by the lip of the slope. It concentrated the mind!

It was a double fenced area within a fenced and controlled flight line patrolled by security police, some with dogs, with 1 pair of gates for vehicle access and 1 pair of gates for the airplanes to get in and out. We had 8 airplanes loaded with nukes that were ready to take off at a few minutes notice, if the Warsaw Pact or another hostile nuclear power did something incredibly stupid. When the signal was sent we scrambled to the airplanes, just like in the movies, saw a couple guys go ass over teakettle trying to go behind airplanes running up their engines. We would watch the news later to see if the alert was a practice alert or for a real event. We lived in the area, there were 2 crews swapping times, we worked 3 days on, 3 days off, 2 days on, 2 days off. I was the lead weapons guy, part of my job was to make sure they knew how to manually arm them if something screwed up. We had a placard hanging in the ready room that said “If the alert birds roll through the gate, put your head through your legs and kiss your ass goodby.” Fun times.

Remember the Podesta art collection? In 2016 it was revealed that the art collection of DNC bigwigs Tony and John Podesta was bizarre and really disturbing. The Podesta’s collection contained, as critic Michael J. Pearce described it, “weird genetically-mutated piggy-children sculptures and creepy photographs of men with children running away.” People were “shocked to learn that this pillar of the Democratic Party owned a sculpture of a decapitated naked woman whose pose closely resembled a photo of one of Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims. Another installation in [Podesta’s] home included hyper-real sculpted hybrid human and pig figures, including piglet children.”

Earlier this year we started fostering 5 from someone my wife knows who got evicted. She’d said 3 or 4 times over the last month that she was going to pick them up, and she finally got them!
We still have an insane number, but the extras are gone.
The kitten we picked up a few weeks ago is doing well, and we should be able to take her to the Humane Society once we’ve had her a month, as long as they’re doing intake. We probably won’t, but we could.

Black people should get $350,000 each in reparations, landmark California committee hears

Max Fennell, a 35-year-old businessman and former professional triathlete, told the committee the money should be given to all black California residents. He argued that black-owned businesses should receive grants of about $250,000 and 15-20 acres of land to help further boost black wealth during the Task Force to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals’ public hearing.
“It’s a debt that’s owed, we worked for free … we’re not asking; we’re telling you,” he told the panel, the Daily Mail reported. “The tangibles of what I’m asking for is $350,000 per black American in California — that’s tangible, small business grant $250,000, and land 15-20 acres.”

Slavery is in the Bible. Sarah, Abraham’s wife, owned Hagar, who Sarah offered to Abraham as it seemed Sarah was barren. Hagar gave birth to Abraham’s son, Ishmael.

He could have made a Hershel Walker NFT that delivered $100 to the walker campaign and then sent back screen saver updates on voting to a persons phone.
One could also create an NFT deck that shared out Trump hoaxes and accomplishments.
One could create a journalist deck that displayed them as good or evil and linked back to their actual articles.

The British Burn Washington, DC, 1814
http://www.eyewitnesstohistory.com/washingtonsack.htm
George Gleig was part of the British force that attacked and burned Washington. Too small in size to effectively occupy the city – their intent was to cause as much damage as they could. We join Gelig’s story as the British send a truce party to negotiate with the Americans:
“Such being the intention of General Ross, he did not march the troops immediately into the city, but halted them upon a plain in its immediate vicinity, whilst a flag of truce was sent in with terms. But whatever his proposal might have been, it was not so much as heard, for scarcely had the party bearing the flag entered the street, than they were fired upon from the windows of one of the houses, and the horse of the General himself, who accompanied them, killed. You will easily believe that conduct so unjustifiable, so direct a breach of the law of nations, roused the indignation of every individual, from the General himself down to the private soldier.
All thoughts of accommodation were instantly laid aside; the troops advanced forthwith into the town, and
having first put to the sword all who were found in the house from which the shots were fired, and reduced it to ashes, they proceeded, without ‘a moment’s delay, to burn and destroy everything in the most distant degree connected with government. In this general devastation were included the Senate House, the President’s palace, an extensive dockyard and arsenal, barracks for two or three thousand men, several large storehouses filled with naval and military stores, some hundreds of cannon of different descriptions, and nearly twenty thousand stand of small arms. There were also two or three public rope works which shared the same fate, a fine frigate pierced for sixty guns and just ready to be launched, several gun brigs and armed schooners, with a variety of gunboats and small craft. The powder magazines were, of course, set on fire, and exploded with a tremendous crash, throwing down many houses in their vicinity, partly by pieces of the wall striking them, and partly by the concussion of the air whilst quantities of shot, shell, and hand grenades, which could not otherwise be rendered useless, were thrown into the river.”
