The Biden administration announced its latest regulatory action targeting home appliances late Friday, this time targeting popular home gas-powered furnaces.
The Department of Energy (DOE) said the energy efficiency regulations would slash household utility costs by $1.5 billion on an annual basis while reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the residential sector. The proposal, according to the agency, require non-weatherized gas furnaces and those used in mobile homes to achieve a far higher level of efficiency than cheaper models on the market.
âAt the direction of Congress, DOE is continuing to review and finalize energy standards for household appliances, such as residential furnaces, to lower costs for working families by reducing energy use and slashing harmful pollutants in homes across the nation,â Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said in a statement.
Granholm claims that these changes are designed to âsave Americans money and deliver healthier communities.â Of course, as with almost everything coming out of the Biden administration, that couldnât be further from the truth. Current regulations require gas furnaces to convert at least 80% of the natural gas they consume into heat. The new regulations would raise the bar to 95%.
he only furnaces that currently meet that requirement are the ones with condenser technology installed. Condensing furnaces work by incorporating a second heat exchanger that recycles the furnaceâs exhaust fumes, burning the small amount of unspent fuel that would normally be released. So at least in theory, you would use a fractionally smaller volume of natural gas to heat your home to the same temperature. And an equally small amount of unspent gas would not go out the chimney.
However, high-efficiency condensing furnaces are not only far more expensive than non-condensing models, but they are physically larger due to the extra heat exchanger. That means that modifications may be required to fit the new furnace in where the old one is currently located, driving up installation costs in addition to the higher sale price. The difference for a typical 2,000-square-foot house can be as much as $8,000 dollars

yes it does, it tastes of sage, black pepper and salt. bangers taste of flour and white pepper. now, this is a hot debate point. sometimes we like american breakfast sausage, sometimes bangers. i’ve had some shitty cheap bangers in ireland and UK and some wonderful bangers, price usually determines quality.
get hand meat grinder and make your own breakfast sausage. it’s insanely easy even if you use a casing. if you make patties, its simply simple and then you can have control over what you want it to taste like. that $80-$200 dollar hand grinder will pay for itself in a year as you can use it for ground beef as well and save $$$ on processing.
the mass marketed breakfast sausages in the US are meant to be popular with the most people and by definition are going to be turned back a bit on taste. sausages from a butcher are going to be better and not cost that much more (surprisingly). your own sausages will be better than anything you can buy.

mass market bacon is crap. but like sex and pizza, even if it isnt that good, it’s still good. bacon is a favorite subject of mine. the brit rashers are nothing more than ham. if i want ham, i’ll have ham. ‘streaky bacon’ is a gift from God himself (just like beer). that said, note the price of mass produced, over-sugared, liquid and chemical cured bacon versus a slab of pork belly. pork belly at whole foods is $4.99/lb. it’s $3.50/lb at the smokehouse that we go to north of here near g’ma and papap coldwarriors. bacon is 2-3 times the price of belly because of the time and manual labor it takes to make bacon. it’s a long process. i will smoke a slab of belly (cut into 1 inch cubes of bacon greatness) often. however, i need 6 hours to get it right. that is a lot of time for breakfast meat. the bacon from the smokehouse is salted, peppered, and then smoked for hours and hours so it costs much more than belly. we can get it cured (brined) or uncured. uncured is not as good, but it’s still good. salt and fat are flavor, less salt means less flavor.
wally world average bacon is cut thin so that you think that you are getting more bacon. its a fraud. it messes up my cast iron because of the massive amounts of sugar. my preference is somewhere between thin and thick cut, but will default to thick in a pinch.
american bread is crap đ that’s my complaint. gum bread sucks. an english batch loaf is a thing of beauty and that is why i make my own at least 3 times a week.

Delta, American, United and Southwest Airlines have discovered that unapproved jet engine parts with fake safety certificates have been installed inside their planes.
The airline companies and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency have claimed that AOG Technics, a leading global aircraft support provider to the air transport industry, sold them the fake parts. The airlines stated that AOG Technics falsified the required airworthiness documents for the spare parts and mass-produced artificial safety certificates in order to sell its engine parts to them.
Parts sold by the problematic company have been found in 126 engines across the airlines and several questions have been raised over the effectiveness of the aviation industryâs safety oversight measures.
The potentially faulty parts stretch from minor screws and bolts to essentially important turbine blades in the planes. The most impacted engine model was discovered to be a CFM56, which is known to carry the record for the most engines ever sold to airlines at over 33,900

It’s happened to the Air Force before, too. They actually lost an F-15E as a result of a defective turbine that had a forged certificate. It had microscopic cracks, and one of the blades let go in flight. It went right into the other engine, destroying it.
I think someone went to prison over that one.

I was there for a few days last week. Drove there and stayed in a hotel on Michigan Ave. The place is a dump compared to ten years ago. Night life is dead as a third of the bars and restaurants are gone alone with the commercial real estate. A lot of “for lease” and help wanted signs. Roves of illegal aliens congregating on the street at night. They did not have much tourist or business traffic.
Before I left I asked a young black gentleman working at the hotel WTF happened. Covid forced closures was first, then crime coming downtown and now alien invaders. He was working 2 jobs due to the inflated prices. Current rumor going around that the mercantile exchange (CME) is going to leave Chicago.
Place will be Detroit within a decade.
