It’s an open…yinz know that.

Ryder Cup. All that is glorious and victorious about American golf is versus the stuffy Euro-weenies just outside of Rome. This isn’t your standard pro outing, there are no golf claps or decorum. it is golf at its most primal. the fans don’t shut up, the players talk shit, no holds are barred. Euro is up 6.5-1.5 after Friday’s 4 ball. It’s gonna get real fun for today’s foursomes and sunday’s all important singles play with 12 points on offer. first team to 14.5 wins. i watch the US open and The Masters at Augusta. I cheer at the Ryder Cup. Do watch on Sunday morning even if yinz aren’t golf fans. It’s great stuff.

woot. we were 4/4 last week so it’s $1300/1000. we made 30% ROI in 5 weeks. I would quit here if this were real money, it aint. zo:

#8 USC @ Colorado 12:00 PM. It’s the second game against top 10 for Coach Prime and his Buffs. They got slaughtered last week and brought down to earth. Don’t count out these guys in the long run tho. Today they are 21 point dogs at home against the storied Trojans of USC. I’m not touching this game..

22 Florida @ Kentucky 12:00 PM. Ummmm… the wildcats are 1 point faves at home versus ranked gators. K has beat FL the last 3 times. But, jeeze, i dunno. The gator run offense is physical, brutal in fact. I take the gators to cover on the road.

frankly, none of the other games are worth watching.

Rugby Wold Cup 2023

Nz destroyed the Italians on Friday night. no surprise there.

the upcoming matches are not worth watching this weekend. they are on Peacock if yinzs want to familiarize yinz self’s with the sport. All hell breaks loose in a week or two.

Yeah, you have no idea. It’s been about 4-5 years since I had to get a new fone. The battery on the old one just gave up the ghost. The new one has bells and whistles and I’m like – whuh?

Don’t talk to me about Canadian euthanasia laws. They took Yenta. She had been ill for decades, in a wheelchair. But that Healthcare system KEPT her ill because $$$. We had a STUPID falling out before she died and when I called to make up her husband answered.

I had talked to my husband about bringing her to the US for help and he squshed it. Understandably. WAY too much commitment.

So my view of the Canadian so called health care system is that it kills people for profit

Yeah. I tossed the rooster back into the neighbors yard. God almighty those things have claws. But the cat.

    So I’ve unleashed the beagles.

Study identifies new pathway to suppressing autoimmunity

Researchers at Stanford University School of Medicine, Yale University School of Medicine, and the Hospital for Special Surgery Research Institute have uncovered new details about how the immune system prevents the production of antibodies that can recognize and damage the body’s own, healthy tissues.

The study, to be published September 29 in the Journal of Experimental Medicine (JEM), also reveals how this process is impaired in autoimmune disorders such as systemic sclerosis and systemic lupus erythematosus and suggests potential new strategies to treat these diseases.

Yes, they are coming for your gas furnaces too

The Biden administration announced its latest regulatory action targeting home appliances late Friday, this time targeting popular home gas-powered furnaces.

The Department of Energy (DOE) said the energy efficiency regulations would slash household utility costs by $1.5 billion on an annual basis while reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the residential sector. The proposal, according to the agency, require non-weatherized gas furnaces and those used in mobile homes to achieve a far higher level of efficiency than cheaper models on the market.

“At the direction of Congress, DOE is continuing to review and finalize energy standards for household appliances, such as residential furnaces, to lower costs for working families by reducing energy use and slashing harmful pollutants in homes across the nation,” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said in a statement.

Granholm claims that these changes are designed to “save Americans money and deliver healthier communities.” Of course, as with almost everything coming out of the Biden administration, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Current regulations require gas furnaces to convert at least 80% of the natural gas they consume into heat. The new regulations would raise the bar to 95%.

he only furnaces that currently meet that requirement are the ones with condenser technology installed. Condensing furnaces work by incorporating a second heat exchanger that recycles the furnace’s exhaust fumes, burning the small amount of unspent fuel that would normally be released. So at least in theory, you would use a fractionally smaller volume of natural gas to heat your home to the same temperature. And an equally small amount of unspent gas would not go out the chimney.

However, high-efficiency condensing furnaces are not only far more expensive than non-condensing models, but they are physically larger due to the extra heat exchanger. That means that modifications may be required to fit the new furnace in where the old one is currently located, driving up installation costs in addition to the higher sale price. The difference for a typical 2,000-square-foot house can be as much as $8,000 dollars

Although this is not England and I understand food is different here. Eggs are smaller, sausage does not taste of anything, mushrooms can’t really get fucked up. Baked beans are too sweet BUT.

ah yes, one of my favorite discussions. english versus american breakfast. mrs coldwarrior and i are fans of both, so lets go through your points one by one.

    eggs are smaller here:

i don’t think so, i’d really need a side by side of grades in UK v US as proof. as yinz know, i lived in ireland for a long time and travelled a lot in UK. i don’t remember the eggs being larger?

the eggs i get from my egg lady are smaller than the jumbo eggs from wally world and vary a bit in size due to the obvious factors, they are also infinitely better (obviously). at $3.50 a dozen, it’s a bargain. factory farm regular size eggs are smaller by definition than large or jumbo eggs.

sausage does not taste of anything:

yes it does, it tastes of sage, black pepper and salt. bangers taste of flour and white pepper. now, this is a hot debate point. sometimes we like american breakfast sausage, sometimes bangers. i’ve had some shitty cheap bangers in ireland and UK and some wonderful bangers, price usually determines quality.

get hand meat grinder and make your own breakfast sausage. it’s insanely easy even if you use a casing. if you make patties, its simply simple and then you can have control over what you want it to taste like. that $80-$200 dollar hand grinder will pay for itself in a year as you can use it for ground beef as well and save $$$ on processing.

the mass marketed breakfast sausages in the US are meant to be popular with the most people and by definition are going to be turned back a bit on taste. sausages from a butcher are going to be better and not cost that much more (surprisingly). your own sausages will be better than anything you can buy.

    Baked beans are too sweet:

yes. i’ll take uk heinz baked beans all day, and perfect with bangers and toasted batch loaf bread.

What is the thing with bacon. Why is it sliced so thin? I deliberately always buy the thick sliced stuff, but it is sliced really thin. Current pack of bacon is labeled as thick sliced hickory smoked but being honest here:

mass market bacon is crap. but like sex and pizza, even if it isnt that good, it’s still good. bacon is a favorite subject of mine. the brit rashers are nothing more than ham. if i want ham, i’ll have ham. ‘streaky bacon’ is a gift from God himself (just like beer). that said, note the price of mass produced, over-sugared, liquid and chemical cured bacon versus a slab of pork belly. pork belly at whole foods is $4.99/lb. it’s $3.50/lb at the smokehouse that we go to north of here near g’ma and papap coldwarriors. bacon is 2-3 times the price of belly because of the time and manual labor it takes to make bacon. it’s a long process. i will smoke a slab of belly (cut into 1 inch cubes of bacon greatness) often. however, i need 6 hours to get it right. that is a lot of time for breakfast meat. the bacon from the smokehouse is salted, peppered, and then smoked for hours and hours so it costs much more than belly. we can get it cured (brined) or uncured. uncured is not as good, but it’s still good. salt and fat are flavor, less salt means less flavor.

wally world average bacon is cut thin so that you think that you are getting more bacon. its a fraud. it messes up my cast iron because of the massive amounts of sugar. my preference is somewhere between thin and thick cut, but will default to thick in a pinch.

american bread is crap 😆 that’s my complaint. gum bread sucks. an english batch loaf is a thing of beauty and that is why i make my own at least 3 times a week.

The airline companies and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency have claimed that AOG Technics, a leading global aircraft support provider to the air transport industry, sold them the fake parts. The airlines stated that AOG Technics falsified the required airworthiness documents for the spare parts and mass-produced artificial safety certificates in order to sell its engine parts to them.

Parts sold by the problematic company have been found in 126 engines across the airlines and several questions have been raised over the effectiveness of the aviation industry’s safety oversight measures.

The potentially faulty parts stretch from minor screws and bolts to essentially important turbine blades in the planes. The most impacted engine model was discovered to be a CFM56, which is known to carry the record for the most engines ever sold to airlines at over 33,900

    @ eaglesoars:

It’s happened to the Air Force before, too. They actually lost an F-15E as a result of a defective turbine that had a forged certificate. It had microscopic cracks, and one of the blades let go in flight. It went right into the other engine, destroying it.

I think someone went to prison over that one.

Fortunately, the crew ejected, and it was a training flight (over Germany, as I recall), but the plane was destroyed.

“The Magnificent Mile is becoming a ghost town with 35% of business gone. BIDEN’S USA!”

I was there for a few days last week. Drove there and stayed in a hotel on Michigan Ave. The place is a dump compared to ten years ago. Night life is dead as a third of the bars and restaurants are gone alone with the commercial real estate. A lot of “for lease” and help wanted signs. Roves of illegal aliens congregating on the street at night. They did not have much tourist or business traffic.

Before I left I asked a young black gentleman working at the hotel WTF happened. Covid forced closures was first, then crime coming downtown and now alien invaders. He was working 2 jobs due to the inflated prices. Current rumor going around that the mercantile exchange (CME) is going to leave Chicago.

Place will be Detroit within a decade.

Too true mate. We used to bring a separate bag of English loves back through US Customs on our way to LA where we were quartered for 3 months at a time. Used to throw a n extra loaf in for LAX customs but they were too afraid of accepting them, although you see it in their eyes looking longingly. US bread is like eating sugary cake. Revolting.

A free flowing interview Jordan Peterson and his daughter Mickaelia by Piers Morgan. I don’t think Morgan is normally up to the mark but in this really lucid and open interview he does a remarkable job. I may have to think again about Morgan’s capabilities. The two Petersons, father and daughter speak openly and I believe truthfully and it’s a real pleasure to listen to them hold each others feet to the fire and demand truth.

    DEFINITELY worth watching

Today, while assailing Trump, using new leaks relating to the claims of an Australian businessman (just as an aside, remember Alexander Downer?), Nicolle Wallace gives us a new revelation:

Yeah, I DO remember Alexander Downer. Steele Dossier crap.

IIRC, he played a role in getting the dossier to McCain. But I may be mis-remembering that.
