#Caturday: Censored Edition

by 1389AD ( 61 Comments › )
Filed under Caturday, Open thread, Weapons at March 23rd, 2013 - 6:00 pm

This post was originally entitled…

#Caturday: Let’s call it a Hello Kitty battle rifle, okay?

I normally don’t care for anything pink, with the exception of Hello Kitty items.

By the way, “assault” is the legal term for a criminal act; no need to use the proggies’ vocabulary here!

For those who require a concealable weapon with a more subdued appearance:

For when the balloon goes up:

So why did I take the pictures down?

Statement from Sanrio
Owen, Wickersham & Erickson, P.C.
March 25, 2013

Sanrio, the owner of the Hello Kitty property, writes to correct the misconceptions cast by your March 23, 2013, blog post titled, “#Caturday: Let’s call it a Hello Kitty battle rifle, okay?”

This post falsely suggests that we are involved in the manufacture or sale of so-called Hello Kitty guns. Sanrio is not a purveyor of arms. Sanrio has never authorized the manufacture or sale of any firearm or weapon and does not and will not condone the use of its Hello Kitty character, or any of its characters, for the purposes of marketing such merchandise.

The guns referenced and pictured in your article were customized by an individual without authorization to include Sanrio’s Hello Kitty copyrighted image and trademark. Such actions constitute copyright infringement, trademark infringement and dilution. Sanrio’s attorneys will take appropriate legal action against anyone who manufactures, sells or displays such products. The pictures in your article falsely suggest that the gun depicted was authorized by Sanrio.

We ask that you:

1. Remove the misleading photographs of the unauthorized guns bearing the Hello Kitty image.

Thank you.

That obviously required an answer:

Dear Ms. Hawkins,

I’ve always been a fan of Hello Kitty products and of Sanrio Inc. I never intended to create confusion or cause any problems for Sanrio or the fan base. I was very surprised to read that there are concerns that someone might think Sanrio Inc. to be a firearms manufacturer.

I have already taken the pictures down. As far as I know, those pictures were of “fan art” – one-off decorative effects that handicrafters applied to firearms that they own for personal enjoyment or display. It’s also possible that somebody used Photoshop to apply the Hello Kitty image to a photograph for humorous purposes. To the best of my knowledge, no one at all is making a business practice of decorating and selling actual firearms with Hello Kitty imagery.

However, if Sanrio, Inc. should ever decide to manufacture firearms, I would be happy to give you a discounted advertising rate on 1389 Blog.

Thanks very much,

1389AD, admin of 1389 Blog

To which I got a very nice reply:

Firearms Equality Movement Gaining Momentum: Government has same rights as citizens

Firearms Equality Movement
Firearms Equality Movement

From AmmoLand, this is the honor roll as of February 27, 2012:

By Tred Law

New Jersey – -(Ammoland.com)- The newly emerged Firearms Equality Movement is gaining more steam among manufactures and gun rights supporters alike.

The firearms industry, in reaction to the Governor of New York ramming through the NY SAFE Act which banned AR15 style rifles, has seen multiple manufactures revise their firearms sales polices to restrict LEO and Police Agencies from only buying the same level of firepower as is allowed for the average citizen of their state.

Thereby helping to make the citizens equal to police and law enforcement agencies with in the same state, and, in some part, making rouge politicians accountable for their actions trying to disarm the people.

It is important to note that the Movement is not asking industry to join a “conspiracy” but only to make their own sales policies support the right of the individual to keep and bear the same arms as all other classes of people in their respective states. The Firearms Movement is just that, a movement and not collusion, as some have suggested. In the end each and every company is free to do business as they wish.

The List of Manufactures as complied by NC Gun Blog has continued to grow and at last count (2-27-2013) included the following.

  • Wilson Tactical 2-28-13

As of yet we have not seen the big four manufactures, Glock, Sig Saur, Smith & Wesson and Ruger, that supply the majority of police contracts, make the same policy changes. We understand they are beholden to their stock holders, but I am still hopeful that they will move to support their biggest customer of all, the American people.

I want to let hem know that I will buy all I can from any company that protects my rights, to help make up for any loss of sale they may experience by limiting police sales.

It is great to see manufactures banding together to protect the rights of their customers and hold politicians accountable for their acts disarming the American public.

As this movement evolves I would like to see this become an unsaid blanket policy that applies to all states, especially New York, New Jersey, Maryland, California and anywhere else where honest law abiding citizens need the right to keep and bear arms of equal fire power as the state the live in.

For more info and an easy tools that you can use to write firearms manufactures, encouraging them to make their own policy’s one that will hold the line for you and me, visit:

Canadian Firearms Owners Fight Ontario CFO ‘Authorization To Transport’ Regs

by 1389AD ( 5 Comments › )

AmmoLand has the story:

Canadian Shooting Sports Association
Canadian Shooting Sports Association

CALL TO ACTION – PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS!

Canada – -(Ammoland.com)- Canada’s firearms community must join forces to fight the anti-gun civil servants who are trying to steal your rights.

The Ontario Chief Firearms Office (CFO) has suddenly introduced new Authorization To Transport (ATT) regulations that are unfair, unnecessary and undemocratic.

Responsible firearms owners must make our voices heard on Parliament Hill, where all CFOs derive their mandate. Let the government know why Canada’s ATTs are nothing more than an exercise in useless red tape. ATTs do not help to keep Canadians safe — these redundant rules are intended to frustrate sport shooters into quitting their heritage activities.

The Canadian Shooting Sport Association (CSSA) is preparing to take the CFO to court for imposing artificial transport regulations on responsible owners of restricted and prohibited firearms. Under ATT regulations imposed many years ago, the CFO has permitted transporting firearms between the owners’ home and any approved shooting range in Ontario in accordance with the federal Firearms Act. Responsible firearm owners have been doing it for a very long time, virtually without incident.

The CFO’s new arbitrary ATT regulations quash the previous rights conferred under the Criminal Code, and suddenly specifies that sport shooters are only permitted transport to shooting clubs where the permit holder is a “member in good standing.” New rules say sport shooters may only visit shooting ranges where they have a written invitation, and incredibly, they must surrender that invitation to a police officer upon demand.

Let’s go one better – write to Prime Minister Stephen Harper and your Member of Parliament today. Politely explain why ATTs are a waste of time and resources. If you are not an Ontario resident, rest assured that all provincial CFOs are watching – they make up the rules as they go and get away with it. But, enough is enough. Your letter can make a difference – but your silence will certainly be interpreted as your approval. Do not remain silent.

Please tell our federal politicians:

a) ATTs are specifically designed to harass sport shooters and do nothing to keep Canadians safe

b) Every ATT application to the CFO to move restricted and prohibited firearms is granted with a rubber-stamp – it is an expensive, useless exercise

c) Criminals do not seek permission to transport firearms, so the ATT does not prevent crime

d) ATTs provide CFOs with another avenue to make up more stringent and unfair rules on their own

e) The federal government grants power to the CFOs and then refuses to take responsibility for those powers. The CFO’s don’t make the law, Parliament does.

f) Scrapping ATTs was advocated by the Public Safety Minister’s Firearms Advisory Committee who are Canada’s leading experts on firearms.

g) The Conservative government campaigned on scrapping Bill C-68 for years and gun owners everywhere supported it – the government should stand and deliver
