Frank Tending The Machine

For those of you who have never run across the artwork of Jim Woodring, you’re missing out on some of the most surreal (and sometimes disturbing) pen and inkwork that I’ve seen. Woodring based a lot of his subject matter on hallucinations he had as a child, and decided to record them on paper.

His most recognizable character is Frank, a good guy who goes on bizarre adventures, often accompanied by Madame Pupshaw (sort of a cat) and Pushpaw (sort of a dog). None of the characters speak.

As a special added bonus for all Blogmockers, here’s a short video of Frank, Madame Pupshaw and Pushpaw in action:

Woodring’s online store is awesome. It’s full of delightful oddness, perfect gifts for the hard-to-get, and presented for your review on The Overnight Open Thread.

Check out this StarWars excreta for the dinner table. Not only does it come in white, you can get an R2 of color that craps pepper just like the white version. But wait! There’s more! It beeps and whistles in Japanese!

Speaking of peppercorn grinders, let’s all beep and whistle into another  Overnight Open Thread.

Mrs. Jenkins

Mrs. Jenkins. Everyone knew her by name, yet she knew none of ours. She never spoke, except when we walked down the line pretending to stick our fingers down our throats.

Mrs. Jenkins was The Lunch Lady, and she had a hair net and a mole. She worked the serving line in the Maple Dale Elementary School cafeteria serving up fluorescent orange “sloppy joes” on buns that were more like pancakes; warm egg salad; green orbs with orange cubes (both having the consistency of PlayDoh) labeled as “peas & carrots;” and cheeseburgers consisting of a rectangular piece of asphalt roof shingle with a triangle of Velveeta. Oh, yeah… macaroni and Velveeta was available everyday.

EVERYBODY REMEMBERS MRS. JENKINS.

And now you can purchase a Mrs. Jenkins Lunch Lady Action Figure just as you remember her and make her eat that garbage while we enjoy an Overnight Open Thread.

I had one of these. What a sucky toy. I would have rather had an Overnight Open Thread.
