Global Warming McCarthyism

The Left always cries McCarthyism when their positions are criticized. However, when it comes to the Global Warming debate they seek to silence all that disagree. Al Gore goes out and smears  opponents. Progressive blogs and commentators, mock and ridicule all who question. This creates a climate of fear among critics who dare question this ideology.

DISCUSSIONS about global warming are marked by an increasing desire to stamp out “impure” thinking, to the point of questioning the value of democratic debate. But shutting down discussion simply means the disappearance of reason from public policy.

In March, Al Gore’s science adviser and prominent climate researcher Jim Hansen proclaimed that when it comes to dealing with global warming, the “democratic process isn’t working”. Although science has demonstrated that CO2 from fossil fuels is heating the planet, politicians are unwilling to follow his advice and stop building coal-fired power plants.

This is the tactics Progressives use when someone questions. They attack, smear and humiliate their opponents. They go after their families and friends to intimidate. It’s sad to say, but these tactics work.

The Right should mimic these tactics and turn the tables.

Or, to ask another obvious question, “Could we be wrong about global warming?”, as even USA Today’s blogs are beginning to ask:

Could the best climate models — the ones used to predict global warming — all be wrong?

Maybe so, says a new study published online today in the journal Nature Geoscience.  The report found that only about half of the warming that occurred during a natural climate change 55 million years ago can be explained by excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. What caused the remainder of the warming is a mystery.

In a nutshell, theoretical models cannot explain what we observe in the geological record,” says oceanographer Gerald Dickens, study co-author and professor of Earth Science at Rice University in Houston. “There appears to be something fundamentally wrong with the way temperature and carbon are linked in climate models.”

During the warming period, known as the “Palaeocene-Eocene thermal maximum” (PETM), for unknown reasons, the amount of carbon in Earth’s atmosphere rose rapidly. This makes the PETM one of the best ancient climate analogues for present-day Earth.

As the levels of carbon increased, global surface temperatures also rose dramatically during the PETM. Average temperatures worldwide rose by around 13 degrees in the relatively short geological span of about 10,000 years.

The conclusion, Dickens said, is that something other than carbon dioxide caused much of this ancient warming. “Some feedback loop or other processes that aren’t accounted for in these models — the same ones used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for current best estimates of 21st century warming — caused a substantial portion of the warming that occurred during the PETM.”

In their most recent assessment report in 2007, the IPCC predicted the Earth would warm by anywhere from 2 to 11 degrees by the end of the century due to increasing amounts of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere caused by human industrial activity.

Basically, what he’s saying is that even though there’ve been increases in CO2 in the past, the correlation between temperature and carbon that pro-global warming scientists think ought to be there isn’t.  Something else besides carbon content in the earth’s atmosphere accounts for a goodly share of climate change.  So, not only is global warming theory not an accurate predictor of future climate behaviour (as the current cooling trend which has been going on since 1979 shows), but it doesn’t even backtest accurately either.  I.e. the models used for climate change are wrong.  That’s what happens when you substitute wishful thinking and the need to support the environmentalist agenda in place of, well, actual science.

Maybe this is why thousands of scientists in the relevant fields of study have basically came out and said that anthropogenic global warming is “not supported by the scientific evidence”?

It’s time to revisit the notion, first advanced by some Japanese scientists decades ago, that climate change has more to do with solar activity than anything else.  And yes, that really is as much of a “Duh” proposition as it seems to the average observer who uses a little common sense.

BTW, it’s got to be at least a tiny bit disconcerting to the AGW-fanatics that an official blog associated with a MSM outlet like USA Today is feeling forced to begin to allow question of the “theory.”

Worldwide Temperatures Continue to Drop

In news which is sure to induce a massive case of cognitive dissonance in Charles Johnson and other supporters of the anthropogenic global warming mythology, the global averaged satellite data for June 2009 shows that the Earth’s mean temperature continues to drop steadily.   As Marc Morano points out, this means that the earth’s temperature has dropped 0.74 ºF (0.39 ºC) since  Al Gore released his piece of cheap propaganda entitled An Inconvenient Truth back in 2006.

The latest global averaged satellite temperature data for June 2009 reveals yet another drop in the Earth’s temperature. This latest drop in global temperatures means despite his dire warnings, the Earth has cooled .74°F since former Vice President Al Gore released “An Inconvenient Truth” in 2006.

According to the latest data courtesy of algorelied.com: “For the record, this month’s Al Gore / ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ Index indicates that global temperatures have plunged approximately .74°F (.39°C) since ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ was released.” (see satellite temperature chart here with key dates noted, courtesy of www.Algorelied.com – The global satellite temperature data comes from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Also see: 8 Year Downtrend Continues in Global Temps)

Gore has not yet addressed the simple fact that global temperatures have dropped since the release of his global warming film. (Gore has also not addressed this: Another Moonwalker Defies Gore: NASA Astronaut Dr. Buzz Aldrin rejects global warming fears: ‘Climate has been changing for billions of years’ – Moonwalkers Defy Gore’s Claim That Climate Skeptics Are Akin To Those Who Believe Moon Landing was ‘Staged’)

A record cool summer has descended upon many parts of the U.S. after predictions of the “year without a summer.” There has been no significant global warming since 1995, no warming since 1998 and global cooling for the past few years.

In addition, New peer-reviewed scientific studies now predict a continued lack of global warming for up to three decades as natural climate factors dominate. (See: Climate Fears RIP…for 30 years!? – Global Warming could stop ‘for up to 30 years! Warming ‘On Hold?…’Could go into hiding for decades’ study finds – Discovery.com – March 2, 2009 )

This means that today’s high school kids being forced to watch Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” – some of them 4 times in 4 different classes – will be nearly eligible for AARP (age 50) retirement group membership by the time warming resumes if these new studies turn out to be correct. (Editor’s Note: Claims that warming will “resume” due to explosive heat in the “pipeline” have also been thoroughly debunked. See: Climatologist Dr. Roger Pielke Sr. ‘There is no warming in the pipeline’ )

Before he goes off half-cocked, Charles may want to note that Morano’s link in the second to last paragraph is to the Discovery Channel, not the Discovery Institute.  Easy there, down boy.

One thing to note – while 0.39 ºC might not seem significant, keep in mind that the AGW true believers have been telling us that a 1 ºC rise in global mean temperature would mean massive ice pack melting and rising sea levels that would wipe out all kinds of coastal regions, wreaking unimaginable havoc on worldwide civilisation.

People like Al Gore and Charles must hate it when peer-reviewed science destroys a perfectly good scare tactic like AGW.  It should be telling that the AGW fanatics routinely ignore the literally thousands of scientists in the relevant fields who have signed onto statements rejecting AGW as a cause for climate change, and instead try to hang onto thoroughly debunked scientists like James Hanson as support for their fantasies.  It should also be telling that the most vigourous supporters of the AGW myth are not scientists – they are politicians and others who wouldn’t know actual science if it set their pants on fire with a Bunsen burner.

EPA Suppressed Global Warming Report

There have been studies casting doubt on Global Warming. However they are usually dismissed by the Progressive Machine because it does not fit their totalitarian agenda. The Obama Administration is now suppressing an EPA report that cast doubts on Global Warming. This is the politicization of Science, something Progressives used to accuse Bush of doing.

The Environmental Protection Agency may have suppressed an internal report that was skeptical of claims about global warming, including whether carbon dioxide must be strictly regulated by the federal government, according to a series of newly disclosed e-mail messages.

Less than two weeks before the agency formally submitted its pro-regulation recommendation to the White House, an EPA center director quashed a 98-page report that warned against making hasty “decisions based on a scientific hypothesis that does not appear to explain most of the available data.”

This is another example of Progressives using any means to further their agenda.
