Blogmocracy in Action:
Guest Post by Bumr50.

In what’s being touted as a “victory” in such circles as World Net Daily, the Heritage Foundation has announced that it will not be represented at this year’s CPAC due to the continued participation of the gay Republican group GOProud.

WASHINGTON – Two more big guns of the conservative movement confirmed today they are not participating in the Conservative Political Action Conference next month because of the continued participation of the homosexual activist organization GOProud.

The Heritage Foundation, the largest think tank in Washington and not known as part of the religious right, confirmed that it is not taking part in what has been the largest annual gathering of conservatives in the country. Heritage has been an active participant in CPAC every year for the last 10.

“We have withdrawn,” said Mike Gonzalez, vice president of communications for the Heritage Foundation. “We have been there for many, many years at the highest level of participation.

Heritage’s official site has no mention of the flounce.

This at BEST counterproductive.

Some objectivity from the Daily Caller.

The participation of gay conservative organization GOProud in this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference has resulted in several socially conservative organizations declaring their intention to skip the annual event.

On Wednesday, the Washington Times reported that the Heritage Foundation will join the Family Research Council, the American Family Association, the Media Research Council, the National Organization for Marriage and others in declining to attend.

It’s not clear whether the Heritage Foundation’s decision not to participate is related to the involvement of GOProud. Heritage was not available for comment.

GOProud Executive Director Jimmy LaSalvia told The Daily Caller that the controversy over his group’s involvement was “by and large driven by a man by the name of Joe Farah of WorldNetDaily.”

It’s not as though GOProud is trying to take over the event. They are not the type of group that pushes ANY social agenda. In fact, their de facto position on such matters mirrors my own in that they don’t believe that government has any business wondering what people do behind closed doors.

Maybe we should write twenty different letters to Rush to see if he can give some kind of explanation on air.

He’s pretty tight with them, and doesn’t seem to share the moral crusade.

This should be a big deal.

It’s why we lose in spite of ourselves

I would have a completely different opinion if GOProud were a gay activist group. They’re not. They just happen to be conservative and gay.

I have a great deal of respect for Heritage, and they are coming off as TOTAL bigots (real ones, not the kind that the Left wishes we were) and advocates of socially driven policy within government – meaning MORE government, not less, in areas in which they feel socially conflicted (read morally superior to those keeping score.)

I believe homosexuality is a sin. Not a crime. I sin every day. My bible preaches forgiveness in ALL matters of the flesh.

This sets a horrible example, and more viscerally gives the left ammo to hurl (no longer baseless) insults at the conservative movement as being cruelly intolerant while at the same time making it much harder for any new conservative hopeful to use the great resource that the Heritage Foundation is without carrying this huge amount of baggage.
