When Truth Hurts

A Dutch court has ordered prosecutors to put a right-wing politician on trial for making anti-Islamic statements.
Freedom Party leader Geert Wilders made a controversial film last year equating Islam with violence and has likened the Koran to Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf.
“In a democratic system, hate speech is considered so serious that it is in the general interest to… draw a clear line,” the court in Amsterdam said.
“…to draw a clear line…”
Between what? Free speech and hate speech? Or between unpopular truth and popular fantasy? Between intolerant hatred and bigotry hidden under the guise of religion?
There is more on the line here than Freedom of speech. It is one thing to limit free speech by prosecuting inciting and hateful comments. But the real danger is to limit free speech that expresses truth.

Taliban ban ‘un-Islamic’ female education in Pakistan region

Taliban militants have banned female education in the northwest Pakistan valley of Swat, depriving more than 40,000 girls of schooling, officials said on Saturday.
“My daughters are sitting at home,” said Mohammad Ayub, father of two girls whose school was blown up by militants in October. “Their future looks bleak because they will stay uneducated.”
There has been fighting in the valley for more than a year, but residents say the military is losing control to militants who aim to impose a severe form of Islamic law.
Shouldn’t muslims rise up against this “severe form of islamic law”? Where are the protests about how badly these muslims are being OPPRESSED?
Islam’s Fight

“Brother, you have to fight. This is a matter of prestige of Islam. You may feel tired or sleepy, but the commandos of Islam have left everything behind, their mothers, their fathers.”
These are the words of a Muslim leader to one of the gunmen in the Mumbai siege. The “fight” these Muslim terrorists are in is one between heavily armed militants and innocent, defenseless hostages.
But in Islam, understand, there are no non-Muslim innocents. All non-Muslims are an enemy to Islam. And Muslims, like these Mumbai cowards, feel justified in killing civilians as though they were combatants.
In another conversation between the Muslim gunmen and their handlers, the militants stated they had several hostages. The order came on how to deal with these civilian captives – “Kill them.”
The gunman said into the phone, “We have three foreigners, including women.” The response was plain and brutal: “Kill them,” the man said. Gunshots rang out inside the Mumbai hotel, followed by a round of cheering.
The Muslim gunmen were repeatedly told to spare any Muslim hostages.
