Look what’s in Obamacare!

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told us we needed to pass it to see what’s in it. Well it has been passed and a little gem has been revealed. It turns out that middle class families will now be eligible for Medicaid. Couples with incomes up to $64,000 will be able  to receive this program in 2014. The Obama Regime claims it was an accident, but I highly doubt it.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama’s health care law would let several million middle-class people get nearly free insurance meant for the poor, a twist government number crunchers say they discovered only after the complex bill was signed.

The change would affect early retirees: A married couple could have an annual income of about $64,000 and still get Medicaid, said officials who make long-range cost estimates for the Health and Human Services department.

After initially downplaying any concern, the Obama administration said late Tuesday it would look for a fix.

Up to 3 million more people could qualify for Medicaid in 2014 as a result of the anomaly. That’s because, in a major change from today, most of their Social Security benefits would no longer be counted as income for determining eligibility. It might be compared to allowing middle-class people to qualify for food stamps.

This was no glitch, it was intentional. The Obama Regime wants to do away with private health insurance. The best way is to make middle class people eligible for Medicaid. This will create an incentive for employers to drop coverage and have their workers take Medicaid. Less people on private insurance, means insurers goes under. That happens and we will have a single payer called Medicaid!

It was designed this way on purpose. The question is, will the GOP repeal this. If not, how will we pay for it? I bet Nancy Pelosi, knew this was in there!

Finding Out What’s In It Part XI

Every once in a while, I am surprised in a horrible and completely unexpected way.  Today was one of those days.  The hat tips for this story are literally too numerous to mention.  I have seen it all over the net, and it still shocks me.  Most of us knew that as part of the Obamacare sink hole of a law, Student Loans were effectively nationalized and placed under the jurisdiction of the Department of Education.  I don’t think any of us realized that the Education Department would be given armed thugs with broad authority to break through doors and brutalize private citizens over delinquent loans.  There are no words, but those of you who know me, know I will try anyway.  For those of you who voted for Obama, was this the hopety change you were looking for?  Debtors prison was ended in the civilized world centuries ago.  In the past, in America anyhow, loan delinquencies held with law abiding entities were dealt with through court filings, promises to repay, wage garnishments, and other more civilized methods.  Only loan sharks, gangsters, and other less savory thugs used the methods of violent intimidation.  Being from Chicago, President Obama prefers the latter.  It would seem that the Department of Education will join the ranks of the Mafia in order to settle their accounts.  So, if you are planning on going to college, beware, and be very frightened.   To the GOP Presidential candidates out there, please have the moral courage to make this a campaign issue, especially in the debate about repealing this law.  I for one do not want a Department of Education with guns, especially since it is painfully obvious that no one has taught them how to use them.

The US can’t be both a Superpower and a Welfare State

The last 11 years have been some of the worst strategic of economic growth we have seen. Job creation has been anemic and most of the new jobs are low wages positions. Our debt when from 5 Trillion in 2000, to 14 trillion in 2011. While our economy declines, we got involved in wars, without going to war time economy. To make matters worse, we increased entitlement spending with Medicare Part D and Obamacare. Then we had an economic collapse and still engaged in War and entitlement spending.

Secretary of Defense Bob Gates is stepping down. He is warning America can’t continue to be both a welfare state and a superpower. We have top choose what type of nation we have.

Robert Gates, who steps down next month after four-plus years at the Pentagon, is making his retirement lap a tutorial on America’s defense spending and security needs. His message is welcome, especially on Memorial Day, and even if he couldn’t always heed it in his time as Secretary of Defense.

In a series of farewell speeches, Mr. Gates has warned against cuts to weapon programs and troop levels that would make America vulnerable in “a complex and unpredictable security environment,” as he said Sunday at Notre Dame. On Tuesday at the American Enterprise Institute, Mr. Gates noted that the U.S. went on “a procurement holiday” in the 1990s, when the Clinton Administration decided to cash in the Cold War peace dividend. The past decade showed that history (and war) didn’t end in 1989.

[….]

But on coming into office, the Obama Administration put the Pentagon on a fiscal diet—even as it foisted new European-sized entitlements on America, starting with $2.6 trillion for ObamaCare.

America needs to be both an economic and military superpower. It can’t be that if we go the route of the welfare state. To be a military superpower, we need to be an economic power. The only way we can be an economic power is by eliminating the welfare state and entitlement reform.  The choice is ours to make.

Letter to the Editor: Obama’s “Achievements”

Obama has put us in a deeper hole

Patriot-News (Harrisburg, PA)
Published: Friday, May 27, 2011, 12:24 AM

In response to “Obama has done a lot during his time in office” (letters, May 22), the author offers a “short list” of President Obama’s achievements.

The theme of the letter was that Republicans are the party of “Wall Street,” yet it was President Obama who bailed out Wall Street, Goldman-Sachs, GE (that made a profit of $14 billion yet paid no taxes), the car industry, the mortgage industry (Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, who are responsible for the deep economic recession we are experiencing today) and the banking industry, all at the expense of the American taxpayer.

Before touting President Obama’s achievements, take a further look at the following: One in seven Americans lives in poverty and is on food stamps. The latest government figures show a poverty rate increase from 12.7 percent to 13.2 percent or 39.8 million people. Unemployment is at its highest level since the Great Depression.

Furthermore, rather than being in two wars, President Obama has put us into three, the latest being Libya, and even now is fighting against congressional controls of the War Powers Act that he supported when George W. Bush was president. And this is the President Obama who was in office less than two weeks when he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

STELLA JATRAS, Camp Hill

The last paragraph to Stella Jatras’ letter was deleted:

“I strongly recommend that everyone see the movie “Atlas Shrugged” which depicts the dangers of an overreaching federal government that picks winners and losers in the private sector, just as President Obama is doing today. Almost 20 percent of Obamacare waivers went to Nancy Pelosi’s district in California while Harry Reid’s entire state of Nevada received a waiver to opt out of Obamacare Other waiver recipients were labor unions which supported Obamacare being rammed through a Democrat Congress. To top it all, our President sides with the Mexican government against his own American citizens in the state of Arizona while his Department of Justice selectively decides which federal laws it will defend. Ironically, “Atlas Shrugged” was written over 50 years ago by Ayn Rand but we are living the nightmare today.”
