Great prize! Great cause!

What will the “Palestinians” do?

They’ve gone back and forth a million times among all the players on their side (“Yes, we will declare statehood”, “No, we won’t”, “We haven’t decided”, “Yes, we have”, “No, we haven’t”, “We want to negotiate with Israel”, “No, we don’t”, “Yes, we do”, “Israel is the one who’s really refusing to speak to us”, etc.)

Recently, a legal expert told the “Palestinian Authority” that they would be sacrificing the so-called “right of return” (i.e., flooding Israel with millions of Arabs) if they declare statehood. Hanan Ashrawi came forward and said that this isn’t true.

Today, Jordan is also telling the “Palestinian Authority” not to declare statehood because the so-called “right of return” (flooding the state with millions of Arabs) would be ruined. Jordan has some of these refugees themselves and they don’t want to be stuck with them. The rest of the countries that have “Palestinian” refugees don’t want to be stuck with theirs either.

While all this is going on, of course, Israel is under attack in the (“Palestinian”) hope that they will lose enough people to make a bigger stink at the UN (but not enough of a stink to ruin the so-called “right of return” because they want to flood into Israel in the millions no matter how woefully they cry that Israel is mean to them).

What the “Palestinians” want most of all is the “one state solution” because they believe that they would be moving into the Knesset and forcing Benjamin Netanyahu to scoot over in the Prime Minister chair.

So one of the real possibilities in all this is that they will dissolve the “Palestinian Authority” and hand the keys to Israel. In this way, they would force Israel to take care of millions of Arabs in Judea and Samaria. They believe they would get the “one state solution” that they’ve wanted all along (the one that would become an Arab state as soon as humanly possible).

There’s a new document out from the “Palestinians” that ponders some of these questions and Carl in Jerusalem is pondering their pondering (as many of us are doing now as we look at these strange people who believe that declaring a state means sending ones population into the state next door).

Please take a look at Carl’s post to his take on all this:

‘Palestinians’ threaten ‘one-state solution’

Caturday Sunday Evening Edition: Cats in Motion

Caturday: cat under blanketIt’s that day again…

The 1389 Blog team, myself included, has been putting up some grim fare on the blog lately, on the topic of man’s inhumanity to man. Some of it is too over-the-top horrifying to re-post on Blogmocracy. It has to be fully documented with photos, videos and eyewitness narratives, because nobody would believe it otherwise.

The dog ate my homeworkSuffice it to say that this effort has not put me into much of a mindset to do the usual Caturday post. I know what kind of nightmares I can expect to have tonight. I was tempted to claim that the dog ate my homework, and just let Caturday go for the week, but thought better of it on the grounds that we really need to lighten things up a bit.

This cat must have heard the can opener

At least I did tear myself away from the computer long enough to feed El Gato and La Gata. No, unlike the white cat gracefully rolling off the table, they don’t come running at the sound of an electric can opener, mainly because we live in a motorhome and have no room for such things. There’s no point in spending money on bulky motorized tools for tasks I can perform just as easily by hand. And nearly all cat food cans these days have pull-tab tops anyway.

How to put your cat in reverseThis animated .gif shows flagrant misuse of office supplies to torment an unfortunate kitty. This kitty may start looking for ways to make the human’s office supplies disappear.

Just sayin’.

Dog pounces on cat, cat chases dog

In this B&W .gif, the dog pounces on the cat, and the cat chases him down the road. It’s just some harmless play-fighting; good exercise for feline and canine friends. This is a mother dog who is feeding a nest of puppies somewhere; maybe she needs a break!

Have you ever changed your bed linens, only to find that your cat has gotten between your mattress and your fitted sheet? This is how it looks like from the cat’s perspective!

Rotisserie Chicken…that’s right! And you thought you couldn’t do that at home. Well, you can’t, unless you have some specialized equipment like the the Faberware Rotisserie FSR150 that we use in the winter, or a rotisserie that attaches to your grill like what is used in the post below. Since I want a very large carbon footprint, we will cook the birds outside on the smoker.

I got these two chickens from my farmer; I try to buy as much produce and eggs as I can from him because its cheaper, local, and much better quality. These two birds were making me eggs last year, production is down, so apply the old Soviet proverb. It goes like this: ‘He who does not work, does not eat’. I have changed it slightly for these chickens as ‘She who does not produce eggs, gets eaten… Lets prep two 5 pound chickens for the rotisserie:

First, Stuff some aromatics in the bird’s cavity like garlic, thyme, rosemary, whatever you like. Then set the first tine on the rod securely then add a chicken, add another tine (one chicken held by two tines). Add another tine, another chicken then another tine. Like this –>chicken<– –>chicken<– . Tie the legs and wings up so they don’t flop around on the spit and inject the chicken with your favorite marinade.

Injection is an option, you can use a rub under the skin as well; or both! . I used an injection this time. Injection is tricky because the needle will clog if there are particles in the marinade. For beginners, try any of Ton Chachere’s injectable marinades and experiment from there. Insert the needle and inject as you pull the needle out on multiple sites to get the marinade out there evenly.

..

This rotisserie set up is available at any hardware store and can be adapted to just about any grill. Make some fire with brickets. Smoking the chicken here is pretty pointless as the skin is still on, a little smoke from some apple or even some pecan is a nice touch though, i used a coal or two of Jamaican Pimento wood (from the allspice tree) at the beginning. Place the charcoal in a circle around the chicken and replace with 2 or 3 brickets as the first burn out. Don’t put it directly under the chicken or there will be flareups.

..
Mrs Coldwarrior’s favorite thing  about rotisserie chicken is the skin, it should be crispy and yummy. To get it right requires a few extra steps. Take your remaining marinade and add a couple of tsps of olive oil and a tsp of brown sugar. The sugar will help make a light flavor glaze and aid in crisping, the oil will help the marinade stick. Brush the mixture on the chickens as they cook with a paint brush. Some skin may get burned a bit as the internal temperature is reached, but the majority of it will be great.

The above photo shows the orientation of the coals, below shows the larger set-up. Most of the cooking happens with the lid down or slightly opened 3-4 inches. Your technique will depend on your setup.

The rotisserie motor is located on the left.

It should take about an hour and a half to hit internal temperature of 165-170 (YMMV). Please use a meat thermometer to ensure doneness. at 165F.

..

Rotisserie chicken retains much of its fat because the chicken is always rotating. Therefore it will be more tender and flavorful than baked.

Let’s Eat!

Snow Leopards

By Gramfan

RARE snow leopard triplets have made their first public appearance at Basel Zoo in Switzerland.

The zoo is showing off the eight-week-old cubs today alongside their mother, Mayhan and father, Pator.

The pair were matched mid-January through a preservation program run by the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria.

Snow leopards are an endangered species and only 4000 to 6000 are believed to still live in the wild.

They are mainly found in the mountains of Central Asia and the Himalayas.

Three Snow Leopard Cubs Born at Zoo Basel

Uploaded by ZooBorns on Jun 15, 2011

This past week Zoo Basel’s newest furry residents began to venture outside of their den for the first time, proving to be bold and curious little cubs. Born April 22nd, the three little Snow Leopard cubs have stayed secluded with mom, Mayhan, in the den for the last two months and these pictures are their first debut to the world. While the cubs are still nursing, they are also getting practice at munching chicken, which appears to be more about having fun than dinner at this stage. In the wild this shy mountain dwelling feline is threatened by poaching and suspicious herders. Wild populations are estimated to be only 4,000 – 6,000 making these births all the more important.
