Last minute post… weird glitches that I got tired of messing with. My contract says I gotta post something, so here it is, just in the nick of time for The Overnight Open Thread.

One Easter Egg

A Kosovo Serb peels an Easter egg during an Orthodox Easter service in a fire-gutted Serbian church, burned in 2004 by ethnic Albanians, in Mitrovica, 40 kilometres (30 miles) north of the Kosovo capital Pristina, April 5, 2010.

History of the Easter Egg:

The earliest Christian history of the Easter egg tradition is found approximately 50 years after Jesus’ resurrection. Bright red-colored eggs were simply exchanged as gifts as a symbol of continuing life and Christ’s resurrection. The red color was an intentional Christian tradition commemorating the blood of Christ. The red Easter eggs in Christian history were originally used when two friends met on Easter day. The two friends would know to tap their eggs together and one would greet the other with the words, “Christ is Risen!” and the other would respond, “Christ is Risen Indeed!” Then the eggs were eaten in fellowship.

In the Reformation years, the church instituted the custom of breaking the Lenten fast with hard-boiled eggs. The eggs were brought to the Easter morning service, and the priest blessed them saying, “Lord, bless these eggs as a wholesome substance, eaten in thankfulness on account of the resurrection of our Lord.”

A closed hand, symbolizing the womb, the mother, Gaia, the Earth.

The thumb, representing life, emerging to take its first breath.

Blue is the clear sky and the deep oceans. White is pristine purity.

The flag in the background, I’m not quite sure. Probably neonazis.

On this glorious Earth Day, let’s give thanks to the Industrial Revolution. It allowed us to utilize the bountiful resources of the planet to combat the destruction of the environment by emissions of green house gases.

Contrary to popular opinion, methane, not CO2, is the culprit. Let’s bury our rotting compost heaps, bulldoze the rain forests, pave over everything that decomposes and eliminate the effects of SGW (Saprogenic Global Warming) while simultaneously reducing the undisputed major contributor to global warming: botanically produced water vapor.

On another note, this is a Good Friday for The Overnight Open Thread.

Savage Chickens is a classic internest dealie. Since so many folks have seen Doug Savage’s clever Post-It Notes cartoons, I’ve avoided posting any on any blog… until now. This one is unique, as it’s interactive. You’ve probably already scrolled up and down a few times and smiled to yourself, huh. I know I did.

Then someone had to go and “improve” upon the low-tech simplicity and created a couple of .gif animations to save the trouble and effort of moving a finger back and forth.

Doug Savage liked ’em enough to post ’em, and if they’re good enough for him, they’re good enough for The Overnight Open Thread.
