Star Trek: Discovery Takes A Knee

ANNNNND if you thought seeing NFL players, coaches, and National Anthem singers taking a knee, not to mention at least one A’s player doing the same, would be all that we see…well guess what, it’s spread to other aspects of the Entertainment world.
As in the entire cast of Star Trek:Discovery…aka STD in some circles…on the night of the premiere of what may turn out to be a VERY short-lived series!
From Breitbart….

The cast members of Star Trek Discovery were slammed by social media users Sunday after a photo of the CBS show’s stars taking a knee went viral online.
The photo, posted on Discovery star Sonequa Martin-Green’s Instagram account, was an apparent show of unity with NFL players protesting the national anthem.
The post, captioned with the hashtag #StarTrekDiscovery and #takeaknee, appeared online just hours after the show’s world premiere.

Here’s the cast taking the knee…

NOT. GOOD. ENOUGH. Seeing as this series is actually filmed in Toronto…here’s what Deplorable Photo should REALLY look like!

I am a lifelong Star Trek Fan…and I am absolutely appalled at their actions. Don’t even get me started on this series’ Klingons being painted as RAAAAACIST Trump Supporters. This one just dumps it for me.

Toronto Mayoral Election 2014 OOT

by Deplorable Macker ( 16 Comments › )
Filed under Canada, Election 2014, OOT at October 27th, 2014 - 10:00 pm

Here are the three main candidates for Toronto’s Mayoral Election, which took place today. The polls closed at 2000 hours Eastern Time. All our Canadian Friends (yenta-fada and Paladin Phil come to mind!) are invited to add their commentary:

PICTURED (L-R): Olivia Chow (NDP), Doug Ford (Ford Nation), John Tory (CPC)
One article from the Toronto Red Star postulates how each of these candidates might fare in the first 100 days in office:

Mayor Olivia Chow’s first 100 days in office
A win for Olivia Chow would signal an appetite for the improvements to childcare and social housing that she promised during the campaign.
Mayor Doug Ford’s first 100 days
Mayor Doug Ford faces a tremendous hurdle: he is the inheritor of his brother’s administration, one characterized by three years of losing key votes at city council.
Mayor John Tory’s first 100 days
Mayor John Tory will have the wind at his back as he moves quickly to fulfill his promises to unite the city council and work well with other governments to break the traditional logjam at city hall and get things done.

Looks like the last guy will get his shot: as of 2044 hours ET, CBC, The Toronto Sun, and The Red Star have all called it for Tory! So…Chime right on in, Canadians! As for the rest of us, it’s just another Overnight Open Thread!

Undying Love: True Stories of Courage and Faith

Many true stories of the Founding Members of the Lodzer Synagogue. David and Jenny Rybowski will be there to speak and answer questions.

One does not usually associate the word “love” with the Holocaust, yet this tender documentary relates how love did surface, against all odds, in the Displaced Persons (DP) camps after World War II.

The movie “Undying Love”, tells the poignant and often-miraculous true-life love stories of ordinary people who survived the unimaginable horrors of the Holocaust and continued with dignity and undaunted hopes for a promising future. Many of the stories

The film is a testament to the Survivors’ collective optimism and desire for a normal life. In their teens and twenties, many were the sole survivors of their family and with the trauma of imprisonment behind them, they felt a great need to form new attachments. These tales of blossoming love in such difficult circumstances is artfully recreated on film by Helene Klodawsky, the noted documentarian whose own parents are part of the story.

Couples tell of chance meetings or of re-found childhood sweethearts. Now they recount their love stories with spirit, insight and passion. This film artfully touches on many powerful realities but transcends the darkness to become a source of profound inspiration.

Nominated for an Oscar in 2003 and Winner of Four (4) International film awards.
Canadian Society of Cinematographers Awards
Columbus International Film & Video Festival
Writers Guild of Canada
Gemini Awards

A small donation at the door will be appreciated.
