The Daily Constitutional

Here in America, our government is based on a set of written laws, at the base of these laws is the Constitution. It is important to remember what the Constitution is; it is the legally binding document that enumerates what the government is allowed to do and what it is not allowed to do.

When one is sworn in as a Congressman or Senator, one must swear a legally binding oath that reads:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”

It seems easy enough, the representative should know what’s in the Constitution before being sworn in. If the person doesn’t like what’s in the document, then they should not have run in the first place. The following is a collection of quotes from some of our representatives who have made the above oath:

Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) told CNSNews.com that Congress has the authority to force individual Americans to buy health insurance because the U.S. Constitution “charges Congress with the health and well-being of the people.” The words “health” and “well-being” do not appear anywhere in the Constitution. http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/5865

Sen. Jeff Merkley (D.-Ore.) told CNSNews.com says that Congress derived the constitutional authority to make Americans purchase health insurance as part of its “very first enumerated power.” see Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution, which states: “The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defense and general Welfare of the United States.”

Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) told CNSNews.com she would leave it up to the “constitutional lawyers” to explain exactly where Congress gets the constitutional authority to force Americans to buy health insurance, the central mandate in both the Senate and House health care bills .

And lets not forget the classic: 23 October 2009 exchange between the CNSN reporter and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Madame speaker uttered the now famous reply “Are you serious? Are You Serious?” when asked about the constitutional basis for mandated health insurance.

I am sure this is not an all inclusive list. What we have here is what is at the heart of the progressive movement, the idea that government can and should usurp the Constitution that they are sworn to defend and replace our freedoms and prosperity with Economic Egalitarianism where all members of society are of equal standing to have equal access to all the economic resources such as wealth, power, and contribution. This is the basis for socialism; the product of the producers is taken and distributed without the consent of the producer. This redistribution of the wealth occurs through Public Management where the government control of society and the economy by progressives is increased over and over again by the progressive movement while they pursue their idea of a utopian state.

The price of cradle to grave security is cradle to grave indentured servitude.

We're not easily offended and don't want people to think they have to walk on eggshells around here (like at another place that shall remain nameless) but of course, there is a limit to everything.

Play nice!
