Today’s Press Conference From Obama? You’ve Guessed It, More Snake Oil.

Today, Barack Obama announced yet again, he believes it is time to get something done regarding our looming debt train wreck.  His proposal, well let’s just say that it reminds me of one of my favorite memories from my childhood.  Every year, for the beginning of the fall season, I would eagerly await the Peanuts cartoon where Lucy Van Pelt would offer Charlie Brown a crack at kicking the football.  Each year, I would read in anticipation of Charlie finally connecting, and each year, along with Chuck, I would be disappointed.  In his last year of writing the popular strip, Charles M. Schultz stated in an interview that he gave serious thought to allowing Charlie to attain his goal during what was to be his last crack at kicking the ball.  It was not in the cards however, as once again, Lucy would succumb to her inevitable nature.

Obama’s offered proposal?  He promises to lower spending later, if we give him a tax increase now.  For those of you who need a visual representation of this deal, I’ll repeat it for you now, in an easier to understand visual form.

The new taxes of course will be on top of the 11 new taxes which were signed into law as a part of the Affordable Health Care Act.

Taxpayer cost over 10 years: $210 billion.
• Also starting in 2013 is a 2.3% excise tax on medical device manufacturers and importers. That’s estimated to raise $20 billion.
• Already underway this year is the new annual fee on “branded” drug makers and importers, which will raise $27 billion.
• Another $15.2 billion will come from raising the floor on allowable medical deductions to 10% of adjusted gross income from 7.5%.
• Starting in 2018, the bill imposes a whopping 40% “excise tax” on high-cost health insurance plans. Though it only applies to two years in the 2010-2019 window of ObamaCare’s original budget score, this tax would still raise $32 billion—and much more in future years.
• And don’t forget a new annual fee on health insurance providers starting in 2014 and estimated to raise $60 billion. This tax, like many others on this list, will be passed along to consumers in higher health-care costs.

Lost in this discussion of what the attainment of the decades long goal of the Democrat party means to our nation, is the actual facts of what will in deed happen. The goal of course was to spend our country into oblivion. Congratulations Democrats, you made it happen. So, here we are today, and these two trains are going to wreck. What is going to be the result.

1. We will not default on our debt. According to current law, our debt will be the first thing paid.

2. It will result in a defacto balanced budget amendment that about 60% of the country believes is a good idea. (While most Americans agree with the concept of a balanced budget amendment, they do not agree with number 3 of this list. Unfortunately, our elected leaders have done a terrible job in explaining the basic math involved with their magic programs. 70% of Americans who want a balanced budget, want to have this happen without cutting entitlement spending, which is impossible.)

3. Since entitlement spending in our country is currently, (and this factoid by the way serves as the greatest proof of the failure of the Socialist agenda which is now choking the life from our country,) $260 Billion more than our revenues at their highest point in our nation’s history, our defacto balanced budget amendment will cause a mandatory decrease in entitlement spending.

4. The current President, who presided over an 83% increase in discretionary spending over the last two years, along with adding over $1.5 Trillion in new entitlement spending, will be forced to pull out a machete, and not a scalpel in order to determine which programs would be actually paid for. (Since the money would not be in existence to continue anything which required any type of credit. Also, his role would still be on an equal footing with the current House.)

During his presser today, the President, beyond saying, “let me be clear,” for the thousandth time also stated that he is in fact now ready to lead the two sides to a compromise. For those of you who have not figured this out yet, compromise in the liberal speak language boils down to this, it means that the President want the Republicans in the House to now give up their position and accept a crappy deal which would make it look like they got something while in practice, they would have capitulated to more spending, and increased taxation. Sure, the promise of lowering spending later on down the road would be there, but…………..

At this point by the way, I would just like to point out that the Pelosi led House did not produce a single budget for her entire 4 years as Speaker. That by the way is the only constitutionally mandated unique duty of the House of Representatives. The House under John Boehner has produced a budget, but the President, and his party apparatchiks in the Senate have failed to address the budget issue. where has his leadership been on the budget issue for his entire term so far. Perhaps if we wrote our budget down somewhere, we could have avoided this entire mess.

Kudos by the way to John Boehner, for standing tough so far in this fight. He has been vilified by the left, and even more viciously vilified by the right. The left hates him because he is a conservative, and that is all that the left needs to validate their blind hatred. The right is still mad at conservative leaders in days past who found themselves at a similar crossroads and sold us out. Perhaps Boehner will be the first Republican to tell Lucy to buzz off. Maybe he will be the first to not go for the, “this time I’ll let you kick it,” gag.

Qaddafi sends delegation to Israel

Col. Mumar Qaddafi has sent a delegation to Israel. Their goal was to meet Leftist opposition leader Tzipi Livni. They wanted to meet her because she has been backing the rebels. They came to improve Qaddafi’s image in Israel and to begin to establish relations between Israel and Libya.

A delegation of four Libyan officials met with opposition leader Tzipi Livni on Thursday and sent her a message from their country’s dictator, Muammar Gaddafi, Channel 2 reported Sunday night.

According to the report, the delegation wanted to meet with Livni, because she had expressed support for the rebels who are trying to overthrow Gaddafi. They received visas from the Israeli embassy in Paris after gaining approval from Israeli security services. Once in Israel, the delegation immediately asked to meet with Livni, who obliged.

[….]

“I met with them, because I was curious,” Sheetrit said. “They don’t have roles in the Gaddafi regime. They wanted to come to Israel and change the image of Libya. They said there isn’t fighting on the streets there and that life goes on. They hope the situation will get better and that there will be relations between Israel and Libya in the future.”

Qaddafi and Israel do have common enemies. Hizballah, AL-Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood are enemies with both. Col. Qaddafi should have reached out to Israel sooner.

“There Are Only Muslims and Communists”

Our Czech correspondent Gemini sends his translation of sections from two articles in the Czech media. These stories concern a plain-spoken Czech politician whose candor is refreshing, to say the least, for those of us who live to the west of the old Iron Curtain.

Below is Gemini’s introduction:

Islam is the enemy, the Czech presidential candidate reminded the world

In recent days the Czech mainstream media have brought to light statements from Miloš Zeman, a prominent leftist politician, regarding Islam. This former prime minister of the Czech Republic (1998 – 2002), also at one time a presidential candidate, is well-known for his open statements and uncompromising humour. Most of these statements were taken from his report presented at the international conference entitled “Europe united and free?”, held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and country’s Defence Ministry. The rest come from a subsequent press release. These statements have already led to charges against the aforementioned politician.

The original sources, including a few more short commentaries, may be found here and here, while this article concentrates mostly on Zeman’s statements.

His condensed translation:

“NATO has declared itself as a defensive alliance without questioning what is it defending against. But it all begins with defining the enemy,” Zeman stated. He then continued: “The enemy is the anti-civilization spreading from northern Africa all the way to Indonesia. Inhabited by two billions of people and financed partly by gasoline sales, partly by drug sales,” speaking about the world of Muslims.

With his mention of drugs, he was mostly referring to Afghanistan and Kosovo. With the former NATO became mired in an endless war, while the latter got help from the alliance to secede from Serbia. This involvement he regards as a failure.

“I don’t believe there are Muslims and radical Muslims. Just as I don’t believe there are moderate and radical communists. There are only Muslims and communists,” Zeman addressed the conference participants.

He believes that one of the mistakes the West has been making is its willingness to negotiate and its responsiveness towards Muslim countries.

“Just remember the appeasement politics during the ‘30s. The victims were thrown directly into enemy’s guts, and (see) where it ended. The 21st century is not going to be Fukuyama’s ‘End of History’, but Huntington’s ‘Clash of Civilizations’,” predicted the retired Zeman.

If NATO should expand in the future, it must be Israel that is adopted, according to Zeman. “Not the state whose president regards Stalin and Beria his main heroes,” he declared, referring to Georgia as governed by Mikhail Saakashvili. However, this could not be so easily done without changing the political climate in the NATO countries. And this is exactly what the politicians are afraid of, Zeman believes.

Nor was the EU spared. “The EU reminds me of an overweight kid who is starting to throw up,” summed up Zeman about the union of states, some of which have already asked for huge financial support.

“Even if one might agree that women should not be allowed to drive a car, in every other aspect the Islamic anti-civilisation makes women into a subjugated and second-class minority,” he added in a separate press release.

“There is no doubt that Islam’s ideological basis is the Koran. A Muslim can be identified as an adherent of Koran, just as Nazi is an adherent of racial supremacy and anti-Semitism, or a Communist an adherent of class struggle and proletarian dictatorship,” he further elaborated in his press release.

“Islam is incomparably more aggressive and intolerant that today’s Christianity, Buddhism, Confucianism, Shintoism and other world religions,” added the former presidential candidate, referring to Koran.

Prague Daily Monitor: Former Czech PM sued over statements on Islam

8 July 2011

Prague, July 7 (ČTK) – Retired politician Milos Zeman, Czech prime minister in 1998-2002, faces a criminal complaint over the statements on Islam he made in June at an international conference on Europe.

“The enemy is the anti-civilisation spreading from North Africa to Indonesia. Two billion people live in it and it is financed partly from oil sales and partly from drug sales,” Czech news servers quoted Zeman as saying about Islam at the recent conference.

Zeman said Thursday Muslims believe in the Koran like Nazis believed in racial supremacy and anti-semitism and communists in class struggle and dictatorship of the proletariat.

He said Islam is far more aggressive and intolerant than present Christianity, Buddhism, Confucianism and other world religions.

He added that the Koran includes passages calling for the subjugation, enslavement and even elimination of non-believers.

Analyst: Even Dollar Stores Struggling In ‘Obama Depression’

July 11, 2011 9:19 AM

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — More stores across the U.S. that offer deeply-discounted products are seeing their sales decline after years of growth amid America’s “Great Recession” — and one analyst said on Monday it’s another sign of even deeper downturn.

While the demand at stores like the 99-Cent Store or Dollar Tree is still relatively high, the biggest chains in the nation have fallen short of Wall Street’s expectations for several months, a trend that may prove even more ominous for the economy at large.

“I think what’s going on in those stores is that we are in a depression for 80 percent of Americans,” top retail analyst Howard Davidowitz told KNX 1070.

That is the first time I have seen it called a “Depression” in a non-right wing venue. The wheels are starting to come of Obama’s Magic Bus…
