Mumbling man’s mouthful leads to charges

AMBRIDGE — Police figured the mumbling man with the bulging lower lip had a story to share with them. When he was later struck with a Taser and spit 23 individually wrapped pieces of crack cocaine onto the ground, the details emerged.

Frank Lee Turner, 56, of Ambridge was a passenger in a vehicle during a traffic stop at 2:38 p.m. Feb. 5 on 11th Street in Ambridge. Three men were riding in a truck equipped with shoulder belts for two.

Turner left the vehicle as police talked to the driver, according to the Ambridge police report.

Asked to return to the vehicle, Turner mumbled a response and began to struggle with police. In the struggle, a single piece of crack cocaine popped from his mouth and police could see something white under his tongue, according to the report.

After Turner struck an officer in the head, knocking his sunglasses and hat to the ground, police used a Taser on Turner and he spit two pieces of crack cocaine on the ground.

Turner, attempted to swallow the remaining pieces, so police again used the Taser and he spit out 19 more pieces of cocaine.

Turner, of 644 Duss Ave., First Floor, was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest and drug possession with intent to deliver, according to court documents.
