This video is well worth the 70 minutes of your life that it takes to watch it from start to finish. In my case, I wanted them to actually keep going. In April of last year, Barack Obama promised America that he was a) just as upset as we were that his IRS, and more importantly his political appointees, were caught targeting his political opponents for increased scrutiny, harassment, and prosecution during two national elections, and b) he would, “get to the bottom of it.” Three weeks ago, he sat for a nationally televised interview and declared that his version of getting to the bottom of this had found that there was not even the slightest smidgen of scandal or anything untoward going on anywhere within the IRS.
Of course the reality is that the daily operations and status quo at the IRS are in fact far, far, worse than anyone ever thought. On the Friday after Thanksgiving this past year, the IRS announced that they would be changing their rules to make all of the things that they demanded of only conservative groups that were not part of their scope, part of their scope. There was no Congressional Legislation passed which granted them legal authority, nor any signed by our President. They just claimed via fiat, their very own increase in both scope and authority. Apparently, that’s pretty much the way things go at the IRS, and anyone who balks will be subject to the thuggish behavior that they have entitled themselves to.
Scarier than that however, is their blatant intention to apply these increases in scope and authority unevenly. Left of center good, right of center bad, and elected politicians from the political left will be all too happy to point out the targets for them. Even though the whole process is now playing out with nary an attempt to hide it any longer, we’re to believe that their’s not a smidgen of any wrong doing to be found here. I think I’m developing an eye tick.
