Technical Update 11 17 2017

by coldwarrior ( 82 Comments › )
Filed under Open thread at October 17th, 2017 - 8:24 am

According to the GoDaddy geeks, we should have a new security certificate, be no longer black-listed, and, from my end, be up to almost full operation….with some things disabled for now. The old comments are still in limbo. I will call GoDaddy tomorrow to set them free.

I intend, over the winter, to re-design this website into something more cohesive. It’s code and ad-ons over ten years is not working as well as I would like.  That said, to add to my otherwise absurd schedule, I will be starting yet another Master’s program November first. So, any help with posts would be greatly appreciated as would any help with a re-design using a standard WordPress template.

Thanks for yinzes patience.

Comments

Comments and respectful debate are both welcome and encouraged.

Comments are the sole opinion of the comment writer, just as each thread posted is the sole opinion or post idea of the administrator that posted it or of the readers that have written guest posts for the Blogmocracy.

Obscene, abusive, or annoying remarks may be deleted or moved to spam for admin review, but the fact that particular comments remain on the site in no way constitutes an endorsement of their content by any other commenter or the admins of this Blogmocracy.

We're not easily offended and don't want people to think they have to walk on eggshells around here (like at another place that shall remain nameless) but of course, there is a limit to everything.

Play nice!

    Wish I was even a little tech-savvy.

Suggestion that you add a ‘view new comments’ feature so we don’t have to reload the whole page.

CW – I can try to set aside part of my day each day to give you a boost, by bringing my laptop to work and having it set to the site so I can monitor if people have a stuck comment. Also, I can set up a separate email account that could link to people with comments stuck in limbo. Let me know by email what I can do.

I could also contribute more in the threads department, I’m sure.

And really, best wishes on your tackling a new Master’s Degree. A daunting task to be sure.

I’m coming to the conclusion I need to get the hell off Twitter. I think my IQ loses 10 points just by clicking on the site.

Honest to God, we had some brainless wonder come on yesterday and say that McCain spent the Viet Nam War at the Hanoi Hilton which means he was NOT a P.O.W. I looked for the sarcasm tags. I looked for anything to indicate she wasn’t serious.

    Dear GOD, she was.

Glad to see things are back to a semblance of normal.

    @ Deplorable Barbarian:
The Hoa Loa was the city jail IIRC. He would have died from his injuries there until his captors learned that he was a Senator’s son. The USS McCain is named for his father.

[Inaccuracies corrected by Dorian in comment below.]

    @ Bunk X:

I’m no big fan, as you know, of McCain the Senator. But to read the crap the Twitter sewer dwellers were spewing on the thread made me want to reach my hands through and do some serious bitch slapping.

no, probably won’t, the list of ‘to read’ books is embarrassingly long

But the next non fiction book I’m reading is Sheryl Atkissons’ The Smear. That’s getting great reviews

If you want books on China I’ve got some but really nothing under 400 pages or so.

Oh jeeze… Now I have to de-bunk Bunk. McCain was not a Senators son. He was the grandson and the son of two United State Navy Admirals. His grandfather and father’s were both Navy Admirals. Admiral John S McCain Sr, Admiral John S McCain Jr were Admirals, John S McCain III is the current batshit crazy traitorous Senator from Arizona.

As difficult as this has been, we have seen no indication that our partners are willing to make any changes that will result in a rebalancing and a reduction in these huge trade deficits. Now I understand that after many years of one-sided benefits, their companies have become reliant on special preferences and not just comparative advantage. Countries are reluctant to give up unfair advantage.

ICE Issues Detainer Request For Man Arrested For California Wine Country Fires

The U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) issued a detainer request on the Sonoma County Jail for Jesus Fabian Gonzalez, who was arrested Sunday on suspicion of arson in Wine Country fires that have killed at least 40 residents.

Breitbart News reported earlier this week that Sonoma County Sheriffs had arrested Jesus Fabian Gonzalez, 29, at Maxwell Regional Park in Sonoma County after a series of reports of ongoing fires in the region. Mr. Gonzalez was observed around 3:00 p.m. PDT wearing a jacket and walking “out of the creek area and a plume of smoke behind him,” according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Mr. Gonzalez, who is homeless and reportedly known by law enforcement to have been living under a nearby bridge, claimed he was cold and had lit the fire to stay warm. But it was a balmy 78 degrees when he and the plume of smoke were first observed.

Mr. Gonzalez was booked into the Sonoma County Jail for suspicion of felony arson. His bail was set at a steep $110,000, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff Public Information Officer.

Kaepernick Hires Attorney Mark Geragos! Lawsuit for the NFL Refusing To Let Him Quarterback!

Colin Kaepernick, who has not been able to find another job in the NFL since opting out of his 49ers contract earlier this year, has reportedly filed a collusion grievance against NFL owners.

The 29-year-old quarterback has hired attorney Mark Geragos to assist him. Geragos released the following statement Sunday night:

We can confirm that this morning we filed a grievance under the CBA on behalf of Colin Kaepernick. This was done only after pursuing every possible avenue with all the NFL teams and their executives.

If the NFL (as well as all professional sports leagues) is to remain a meritocracy, then principled and peaceful political protest — which the owners themselves made great theater imitating weeks ago — should not be punished and athletes should not be denied employment based on partisan political provocation by the Executive Branch of our government. Such a precedent threatens all patriotic Americans and harkens back to our darkest days as a nation. Protecting all athletes from such collusive conduct is what compelled Mr. Kaepernick to file his grievance.

Colin Kaepernick’s goal has always been, and remains, to simply be treated fairly by the league he performed at the highest level for and return to the football playing field.

Re: President Trump’s Phone Call To Slain Soldier’s Widow

Slain soldier’s mom backs rep. on Trump comments

    Excerpt from article:

Democrat Congresswoman totally fabricated what I said to the wife of a soldier who died in action (and I have proof),” Trump tweeted. “Sad!”

It was shortly after that tweet that Johnson’s mother told The Post via Facebook Messenger that Wilson’s account of the conversation was accurate.

“President Trump did disrespect my son and my daughter and also me and my husband,” Cowanda Jones-Johnson told The Post. Though she declined to elaborate, she said “yes” when asked if Wilson’s account was true.

    https://www.aol.com/article/news/2017/10/18/mother-of-slain-soldier-backs-congresswoman-after-trump-says-she-fabricated-his-comments-to-widow/23247330/

Now here’s a different article [This is where you go hmmmmm]

The lives of the 4 US soldiers killed in Niger

    Excerpt:

Johnson lost his mother as a young boy and was raised by relatives.

Growing up in South Florida, he loved playing football. And during his early school years, he met Myeshia Manual, who later became his wife.

He is survived by his wife and children, Ah’leeysa Jones and Ladavid Johnson Jr. Before he died, Johnson was expecting his third child, La’Shee.

    http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/18/politics/niger-us-soldiers-killed-profiles/index.html

    And let’s not ignore the elephant in the room;

Of the four slain soldiers, three are White and one is Black.

Only one family is criticising President Trump.

    Hmmmmm

The BlogMock Spaminator is officially in rehab, but it will take some time.

Watch out for the casting couch. I hear it leaves you walking funny for a few days.

Lol at the human microphone stand. Yeah, he did the job, but how could he not stare at the best legs in the blues?

You mean the guy holding the megaphone during Crow Jane?

That’s her guitar tech. With as many times as she switches guitars during a set, he stays pretty busy.

Brother-in-law’s wife/ex-wife/wife/ex-wife did voice overs for commercials. Oh, man, could she sound sultry after asked to stop laughing on the demo tapes.

I liked the drummer she had on her killer version of “Shake ‘Em On Down.” He was all business.

    @ Bunk X:

I never did hear what happened to Go Go Ray. He played with her for years.

I loved her little intro to that song: “This one is called ‘Shake ‘Em On Down.’ It’s about shakin’ ’em on down.”

    🙂

I loved Probability and Statistics because it blew away all sorts of “common sense” ideas I’d been taught. Permutations floored me.

On the other hand, give me a half-dollar and I’ll flip heads ten or more times in a row.

Did I already post the old “Professor of Logic” joke?

“King of Groove” is the perfect moniker. Not flashy, just grinds it out.
