Monday Markets Open

U.S. stock futures rallied early on Monday as strong manufacturing data out of China eased worries of a possible global economic slowdown.

At around 7:10 a.m. ET, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures pointed to a gain of 172 points, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 indexes were also in positive territory.

A private survey showed the country’s manufacturing activity expanded unexpectedly in March, at its fastest pace in eight months. The figures gave some much-needed relief to investors unnerved of late by fears of a global economic downturn. Early last week, equities came under pressure as bond markets indicated an impending U.S. recession.

The yield on the 10-year Treasury note recently dipped below that of the 3-month bill, in what’s known as a yield curve inversion. A yield curve inversion is seen as a trusted predictor of a recession. (my note: Right now the yield on the 3 month bond is 2.416, the yield on the 10 is 2.85, therefore there is no need to even mention last weeks hiccup as the inversion was not sustained. But, Lord knows, we can’t let Trump have any credit. I suppose, it was the only negative econ news that I have seen in a long while, so they had to glom onto it without fully understanding what it is or how it works)

Monday’s gains came after the S&P 500 notched last week its best start to a year since 1998 and its strongest quarterly performance since 2009. The broad index gained 13.1 percent in the first quarter, led by the technology sector.

the markets are a leading indicator. When the market thinks things are good, the market goes up, it goes down when the market thinks that bad things are coming or are happening.

Hence:

Monday is a busy day on the data front, with U.S. retail sales, manufacturing numbers, construction spending and business inventories due to be released.

The markets would not be up if they expected bad numbers

one note, tho, and I’ll be watching: for the past couple weeks I’ve seen some commentary that inventories are high/up/increasing, but no more detail than that, i.e., lawn mowers, fridges or paper towels? I know housing starts can impact appliance inventories but I haven’t seen numbers on new housing, either.

And in other news, how good are those China numbers?

I think the 2020 presidential election will bring you some interesting responses should Donald Trump win. What do you think the odds are at the left will except those results? Slim or none? Will they riot? How many special investigations will they expect?

The Armstrong article I posted the other day was referring to yield curve problems in Europe and emerging markets. I can’t get my computer to cut and paste the text or the entire post for some reason. grrrr. In fact Armstrong makes the point that you do. The same is not true of the U.S. and no recession is indicated.

Marty expects volatility in Europe in May, which is why he is holding a Seminar in Rome in early May. So, we will see if he’s right by the end of that month.

I do know that car sales in China are down by 42%. Trends Journal writer Gerald Celente says there are thousands of protests going on in China over real estate going down in value and other economic issues. The media retains strict control over what goes on in China.
I wouldn’t be too quick to rely on their official data.

I have trust issues. I do trust a lot of what Armstrong says because of his astounding record. He always says that Governments don’t listen to his suggestions anyway unless there’s a crisis. CW recognizes the same design flaw in the Euro that Armstrong mentions. He was called in for his opinion on the euro, but they didn’t listen to him. A favorite expression of his is that “The majority is always wrong.”

This is a fun thread on the Chinese financial numbers just released. Remember that I asked ‘how good are those Chinese numbers?’

    yeah

The reports, when dug thru makes little mathematical sense, but it keeps the Chinese Party supplied with wonderful numbers , and its authors out of jail
Chart compiled primarily from figures from the just released sister report, the 2018 Financial Responsibility Report

    a. In four years the Chinese Government has created 380 Trillion Renminbi or US$ 50.1 Trillion in Financial Assets out of thin air. The dollar value of these Financial Assets increased 22% in 2017 and its forecast growth of 8% for 2018.
    .
    .
    .
When reviewing the figures you should observe the disparity between the Peoples Bank of China FINANCIAL STABILITY REPORT and those provided to the FINANCIAL STABILITY BOARD (Since the numbers are all being reported by the PBOC, they should be the same, right?).
    Bullet points…

    it gets better

I think this must be it. It’s based on the fact that Stzrok and Page were the leading investigators and KNEW and TEXTED that the FISA document was a nothingburger. Mueller knew it at the same time (mid July, 2017)and still went full blast after Manafort, Papadopoulos, and Flynn. Bongino says it’s the worst political hoax/scandal in American history. He calls Mueller, paraphrasing, a tyrant of the Police State.

Pope Francis used strong language to condemn populism Sunday, suggesting that it gains followers through fear as Hitler did in the 1930s.

“I see that many people of good will, not only Catholics, are a bit gripped by fear, which is the usual message of populism,” the pope told reporters aboard the papal plane returning from Morocco to Rome.
“They sow fear and then make decisions. Fear is the beginning of dictatorships,” he said. “Let’s go back to the last century, to the fall of the Weimar Republic. I repeat this a lot. Germany needed a way out and, with promises and fears, Hitler came forward.”
“I once spoke to a politician, a man that I respect and I will say the name: Alexis Tsipras,” he said. “And speaking of this and the accords not to let [migrants] in, he explained the difficulties to me, but in the end, he spoke to me from the heart and said this phrase: ‘human rights take precedence over agreements.’”
“This sentence deserves the Nobel Prize,” Francis said.

    Hmmmmmmm

Hey Frank….So that would be the same Tsipras who got a start in the Greek Communist Party, an atheist who imposed capital control of the Greek banks stopping people from accessing THEIR money….but sent Greeks broke to stay in the EU.
The same Tsipras who has US$58 million personally….but is an avowed Socialist.
The same Tsipras who led the Greek Socialist Party Syriza, and used Greek navy land and State financing to build a mosque while cutting back public spending on citizens who are predominately Greek Orthodox.
The same Tsipras who supports the dictator Maduros’ tyranny in Venezuela.
But then, Obama got a Nobel Prize….so it’s in keeping you give this idiot one as well.

McConnell to Trump: We’re not repealing and replacing Obamacare

McConnell said he made clear to the president that Senate Republicans will work on bills to keep down the cost of health care, but that they will not work on a comprehensive package to replace the Affordable Care Act, which the Trump administration is trying to strike down in court.

“We had a good conversation yesterday afternoon and I pointed out to him the Senate Republicans’ view on dealing with comprehensive health care reform with a Democratic House of Representatives,” McConnell told reporters Tuesday, describing his conversation with Trump.
    []
“I made clear to him that we were not going to be doing that in the Senate,” McConnell said he told the president. “He did say, as he later tweeted, that he accepted that and he would be developing a plan that he would take to the American people during the 2020 campaign.”

she’s right, tho. If a man is behaving in a manner a woman finds unacceptable, there’s always an elbow in the ribs, or some such, even in public. I’ve known men like Biden and never thought they were anything but affectionate. I’ve known men who have behaved in similar ways and got punched. I don’t like this business of not speaking up until it’s politically convenient/popular. We’re getting to the point where a guy can’t even hug a woman who’s a friend. How stupid is that?

Yep, got a call from accounts department on 02/19/2019 saying none of us would be paid on 02/22/2019

I asked owner when we would be paid and got fired

No one has claimed you will not be paid. Your employment is no longer required and is terminated as of yesterday. You will be paid through 2/19/19. Please arrange to return the keys and any other Altech property you may have in your possession.

I need answers, my rent is due in 10 days.

I was the only one working in the office full time. Company is dead now.

    oh goody!

China’s latest quantum radar could help detect stealth planes, missiles

The quantum radar could ‘observe’ the composition of the target since, in the state of entanglement, the entangled photons remaining in the radar would show the same changes that transmitted photons would have when interacting with the target (known as quantum correlation).

    https://www.popsci.com/china-quantum-radar-detects-stealth-planes-missiles#page-3

The question becomes: did they come up with this by themselves or did they steal it? If they stole it, then they’re not the only ones who have it.

I read a pretty good book about this not long ago. Can’t recall the title.

Did not get paid what I was owed until 03/13/2019 after I threatened my ex employer with legal action. And free of charge to me legal action!

Texas Pay Day Law says that an employer has to be paid the outstanding wages within 6 days of termination of employment, no matter as to the cause of termination.

ADT job numbers came in at 170k vs 250k expected. If the BLS numbers are that low, watch Trump go after the Fed.

Attitudes regarding the Judge election in Wisconsin, yesterday: “View from Dane County (79% for Neubauer): The natives are restless.

View in the rest of Wisconsin (55% for Hagedorn): We’ll show those jerks in Madison who’s boss.”

Looks like we will have a conservative Judge ( Mr. Hagedorn ) in Wisconsin, leading to a conservative majority on the State Supreme Court. 🙂

I’m jealous. Stuff up here costs a fortune. BUT we have a new carbon tax that will make everything more expensive. The govt WILL NOT TELL US HOW MUCH IT IS. They just keep increasing it every couple of months. Kafka or Orwell? Left or right. There is NO leadership up here t5hat will speak for the so-called electorate.

What will it take to wake up a kingdom of sheep? No 1st amendment, no second amendment. Quebec (corrupt and entitled to the core) runs this country. You can get free child care in Quebec. %The productive parts of the nation pay for that. People are actually noticing they chose a nasty moron. No real opposition.

Imma come and live with eagles. lol

Meanwhile the politicians are blaming the media, even though Rep. Adam Schiff, Rep. Maxine
Waters, Rep. Jerry Nadler, Rep Ted Lieu, and many other political reps were every bit as bad as the ‘experts’. Some, like Schiff, are doubling down and will go on investigating Russian collusion until the media stops inviting them on morning shows to discuss the nothing that they found last week and the week before.

Oddly, no one is blaming the political arsonist who started the dumpster fire that is Russiagate.

The Russian conspiracy theory was invented by the Clinton campaign. It was used as a pretext for spying on Trump associates. And then became an argument for invalidating the results of the 2016 election.

And while the Republicans and Democrats tore each other apart over Russiagate, Hillary Clinton sipped her chardonnays and spent the evenings cackling madly at the TV while watching Washington D.C. burn.

Working backwards and doing some crazy math and spreadsheet stuff, that is how I knew I could move to Texas and what I needed to do.

If I look at what I put in savings over the last four years and subtract the equivalent hourly rate for what I managed to save it looks like between $14 to $15 per hour for a forty hour week and I will break even.

I would like to stay in the Southwest Houston area.

My lifestyle is not extravagant, a sushi meal once every six months…..

Unemployment here pays me $12.67/hour but only for six months.

So life is good at the moment but I am bored, and severely time shifted. Up all night, sleep all day.

I have to get my shit together again. The last four years at the job I was fired from were depressing. There was no future in it. I knew…

That Nazi chrystia Freeland is lusting after the leadership of the Liberal party. Directly a Soros candidate. All of the liberals I know could never bring themselves to vote Conservative.

Justine keeps showing his vengeful stupidity as he throws everyone under the bus for not making him a billionaire who deals with utterly crooked SNC Lavalin. The export development bank has ‘loaned’ SNC untold millions. The World Bank refuses to deal with SNC, and putting them high on the list of corrupt international corporations. We have no idea how BIG this really is, but Justina has given us a peek beneath his skirt.
