Biden: The Economy Isn’t Booming But ‘I Don’t Look at the Numbers’

Arguably one of President Donald Trump’s biggest successes since he took the office in 2017 is the record low unemployment rate, which currently sits at 3.6 percent. More people are back to work than ever before and yet former Vice President Joe Biden refuses to give Trump praise.

During an interview with “PBS News Hour” host Judy Woodruff, Biden attempted to buck the narrative that Trump’s economic policies are working for average Americans.

“The economy — new jobs numbers out today, look pretty good,” Woodruff said. “The unemployment rate is staying very low, 3.6 percent. It’s as low as it’s been in 50 years. President Trump has a strong hand going into the — “

Biden was quick to interject, saying Woodruff’s so-called “analysis” of the situation was all wrong.

“Absolutely wrong about that,” Biden replied.

The former vice president said he judges whether or not the economy is booming based on how his old neighborhood is doing, not the actual economic numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“Look, go back to your old neighborhood. Find me middle-class folks who think they’re better off. Find me anybody out there who thinks their children are going to be as well off as they are,” Biden said. “Do you think they are in fact actually able to benefit from what’s happening here?”

Biden believes “wages are stagnant and they’re going up slightly but not enough.” That sentence alone is contradictory. If wages were stagnant then they wouldn’t be going up at all. In a sense, he proved Trump’s policies are working in that sentence alone.

The former vice president, however, admitted that he doesn’t look at the cold, hard facts to come to his conclusion.

“I mean, look, the numbers I don’t look at,” Biden admitted. “What I look at is what I hear in the street when I look at my old neighborhood.”

Biden used a rather stupid example to claim Trump’s policies aren’t working. He argued that if a family unexpectedly received a bill for $400 in the mail that “they’d have to borrow the money or sell something” to make their finances work.

“So I think that’s what the voters will decide. I think middle class is being left behind and working people are being left behind by these policies,” he concluded.

Here’s the reality that someone like Biden, who is well off, doesn’t understand. Middle class Americans live paycheck to paycheck. We try our best to anticipate and prepare for the unexpected expenses that come with every day living, like a trip to the emergency room or a flat tire. Most people are banking on payday to get ahead on their bills and put more in their savings accounts for rainy days.

Trump’s tax cuts have provided relief to the middle class. They’ve put more money back in people’s pockets so they can spend their money how they choose. Some will put it in savings for a rainy day, others will pay off debt and a handful may even buy themselves something they’ve wanted but couldn’t afford.

The president’s tax cuts have enabled small and big businesses to hire more people. Money that would have gone to the government is now going to working people. When more people have jobs, they have more money to spend, which stimulates the economy.

Biden can’t say people are “being left behind” when the unemployment rate is at a record low and the middle class has more money in their pockets. This is just his way of downplaying President Trump’s economic success.

This is my entry for the most boring post on Blogmocracy for 2019.

Today I met a gender neutral friend for about 15 minutes this afternoon and we discussed many things but due to time constraints very briefly. One was the Trump impeachment inquiry farce.

Another was the stupidity of the changing the clocks stupidity. Why do we do it?

The generally accepted view is that it will be lighter in the morning and so school children will be safer going to school. There will be less accidents involving children.

Now, recently some states, education authorities etc are recommending and implementing a policy whereby schools start later in the day so as to give the delicate children an extra hour or two of sleep.

That makes a mockery of the time change in winter does it not?

If school children need extra sleep MAKE THE LITTLE BASTARDS GO TO BED EARLIER!

That is not all, I have another really boring post about the time change lined up.

You will be amazed I can still get my shit together.

Oh as a side note, meeting my gender neutral friend was a very enjoyable but short afternoon.

Central Time Zone, all data taken from Accuweather and dated 11/02/2019 as in before we messed with the time.

    South Central time zone.

East point Dothan AL, West El Paso TX.

    North Central time zone.

East Grand Portage MN, West Williston ND.

So current sunrise and sunset down here in the South. In AL at Dothan the most East place in Central time they had sunrise at 6:58am tomorrow it will be 5:59am.

In the South El Paso had a sunrise today at 7:23am Tomorrow it will be 6:24am

So, as we move towards the winter solstice in January the days will become shorter, sunrise will be later and many children lives will be saved becayse we changed the time!

Children never have to go to school in the dark!

  20. Possum
    20 | November 2, 2019 10:17 pm

    However…..

Now look at the North end of the Central Time Zone.

Most West point Grand Portage, Sunrise 7:45am, cool, change the time back an hour and kids still can go to 8:00am class in daylight.

    In November….

Poor kids in Williston ND went to school yesterday and got there at 8am. Sun did not rise until 8:41am

Williston kids have been going to school for weeks in the dark.

    The point of my ranting?

If time change is primarily to avoid child deaths then start school later and quit fucking with my sleep cycle, and more importantly quit fucking with my cats’ sleep cycle.

Changing the time of your car clock is easy.

You try changing the time on a cat.

    War Pigs
    Black Sabbath

    Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
    Evil minds that plot destruction
    Sorcerers of death’s construction
In the fields the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
    Death and hatred to mankind
    Poisoning their brainwashed minds
    Oh Lord yeah

    Politicians hide themselves away
    They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight
They leave that all to the poor, yeah

Time will tell on their power minds
    Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait ’till their judgment day comes, yeah

Now in darkness world stops turning
As the war machine keeps burning?
No more war pigs have the power
Hand of God has struck the hour
Day of judgment God is calling
On their knees, the war pigs crawling
    Begging mercy for their sins
    Satan laughing spreads his wings
    Oh Lord yeah

Why they had to move yet another UN ‘climate conference from Chile. People protesting higher transit fare and taxes. From wattsupwiththat.

“As Chileans protest, climate activists and their media allies want people to believe oil is to blame, rather than government climate programs that raise energy prices and impoverish people.

Unlike speculative climate change woes that never seem to materialize, carbon dioxide taxes and renewable energy mandates immediately and measurably raise living costs and reduce living standards. In the United States, people may have some concern about climate change, but polling shows most Americans aren’t willing to pay $2 per month to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

In Chile, where per-capita income is merely one-quarter of U.S. per-capita income, people are understandably even less willing to pay for carbon dioxide reduction. Moreover, Chile’s per-capita income is higher than that of most other Latin American countries, so people in other Latin American countries would be even more likely to rise up and protest economically destructive climate change programs like the ones imposed in Chile.”

MOVE the UN to Pakistan or West Africa.

Well that’s not exactly true. The nutty State government of New South Wales in Australia is using hydro generated power to PUMP water to a higher dam where it will wait until there is a need for a lot of power. Alas the losses between the motor the pump, the wall friction of the piping, storage losses through evaporation, more wall friction losses, more generator losses when it’s reused, transmission losses make the whole exercise a bit of a nonsense. So many losses that there is precious little usable power to actually use.

Then there is hydrogen conversion but that has its own list of losses. Efficiency losses of power used in the electrolysis process to generate hydrogen from water, Cooling and pump losses as the hydrogen is compressed, fuel cell losses as the hydrogen creates electricity, Transmission losses etc, etc. Efficiency losses as far as the eye can see.

If you use batteries to store the power such as a Tesla cell, There are storage losses aplenty before you get to use the power at a time of your choosing and then all the normal losses before the electricity actually does useful work!

In this world you get ‘nuttin fur nuttin’.

    🙂

Given that her husband has a PhD in Physics and could obviously explain it to her in words of one syllable is he henpecked into silence…. much?

Very interesting lecture on some of the dynamics of hydro power. I need to make a start in educating myself.

I watched the Australian Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme when I was a kid (10-16). Used to visit with my aunt and uncle . They lived on the sSnowy River at a tiny town called Jindabyne. … until they moved a lake into the valley and shifted the town 3 miles up the hill. In all there were about 13 major dams build and miles of huge underground tunnels linking dams and lakes. The whole Snowy Scheme took 20 years to build and employed over 100,000 Italian and Greek immigrants fleeing Europe after WWII finished.

I used to hitch hike around the mountains by yelling to the drivers of explosives hauling trucks if I could jump up. They used to grind up the steep dirt roads at 3 MPH so it was easy to jump on and off.

Dem Rep. Jim Clyburn: Trump Admin Are ‘Sunshine Patriots’ Attacking ‘Real Patriots’ Like Vindman…

CLYBURN: “Sure it could. And that would make this whole process much more political than I would like for it to be. I believe this whole process to me is about preserving this republic, protecting the democracy that we hold dear, and I do not believe that we ought to allow our political feelings to get in the middle of this. This country is worth saving. And I do believe that we are in a crisis much like that Thomas Payne wrote about back in 1776 when he talk about some are soldiers and sunshine patriots. We’re seeing a lot of sunshine patriots who are challenging the authority of real, brave soldiers and real patrons for lieutenant colonel vindman to be eviscerated the way this white House is, a real patriot he is and we have so much sunshine patriotship in this White House we ought to expose them and I think the American people ought to have an opportunity to read what Mr. Vindman had to say — lieutenant colonel vindman had to say and make their own judgment.”
