NCAA Football Week #12 OPEN Thread.

It’s an open

We were 3/5 this week and 24/46…1200/1000 overall. I got suckered into working some OT on Saturday so I have to get this out quick and go to bed.

#8 Penn State at #2 Ohio State – Sat, Nov 23, 12:00 PM ET…PSU is a 19 point dog and covers the spread.

And, that is why I agreed to work, there aren’t any other interesting games on so I might as well pay for Christmas.

Enjoy yinz’s open!

    Ecommerce Jumps by Most Ever

    by Wolf Richter • Nov 22, 2019 • 43 Comments

Department stores get crushed one by one.

Ecommerce sales in the third quarter 2019 spiked 17.3% from a year ago to $145.7 billion, not seasonally adjusted, according to the Commerce Department. On a seasonally adjusted basis, sales hit $154.5 billion. Ecommerce sales will exceed $600 billion in 2019, double the amount five years ago. In dollar terms, ecommerce sales jumped by $20.4 billion in Q3 compared to a year ago, the biggest dollar-jump in the history of ecommerce:.

Hefty marijuana taxes that can approach 50 percent in some communities have been blamed for pushing shoppers into California’s tax-free illegal market, which is thriving. Industry analysts estimate that $3 are spent in the illegal market for every $1 in the legal one.

When you live in a third world city like Tucson, e-commerce is a real blessing. I can actually get things that I need without having to search high and low for somebody who might be able to order something. … or have to drive to Phoenix to actually be able to get something.

Just like Sears and other mail order houses did for rural shoppers, those of us in the regressive hinterlands are very grateful for e-commerce. I try not to use Amazon unless I absolutely have to, but places like Acme tool, Woodworker’s Supply of NM, and others are great sources

Navy Is Said to Proceed With Disciplinary Plans Against Edward Gallagher

The secretary of the Navy and the admiral who leads the SEALs have threatened to resign or be fired if plans to expel a commando from the elite unit in a war crimes case are halted by President Trump, administration officials said Saturday.

The Navy is proceeding with the disciplinary plans against the commando, Chief Petty Officer Edward Gallagher, who counts Mr. Trump as one of his most vocal supporters. After reversing a demotion in recent days, the president suggested on Thursday that he would intervene again in the case, saying that the sailor should remain in the unit.

The threats by the Navy secretary, Richard V. Spencer, and the commander, Rear Adm. Collin Green, are a rare instance of pushback against Mr. Trump from members of the Defense Department. Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper and Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, scrambled to come up with a face-saving compromise this past week in the hope that Mr. Trump could be persuaded to change his mind.

On Thursday, Mr. Trump, referring to the pin that signifies membership in an elite force, said on Twitter that “The Navy will NOT be taking away Warfighter and Navy Seal Eddie Gallagher’s Trident Pin.” He added: “This case was handled very badly from the beginning. Get back to business!”

One argument that officials said may be relied on is the assumption that a tweet does not constitute a formal presidential order. Mr. Esper and General Milley conveyed to the president that if he followed up that tweet with a direct order, there would be huge consequences: Mr. Trump would lose Mr. Spencer and Admiral Green, further infuriate his top military leadership and do untold damage to decades of military justice doctrine, according to administration officials.

Administration officials said they now hoped that Mr. Trump would allow the proceedings to continue, but it is unclear whether the president will do so. The debate over Mr. Gallagher comes as Mr. Trump, facing a difficult re-election battle and an impeachment inquiry, has increasingly sought to highlight his role as commander in chief.

Tucson is a third world city? I Had no idea it was the hinterland. Toronto is a big city, but people still go to Buffalo malls to shop if they want more depth of choices at a fraction of the cost. Some things I need due to illness would be impossible to find without Amazon. I just get concerned about a monopoly. Canada doesn’t manufacture much anymore. That was deliberate and slow Socialism pushed by international unions and greedy politicians.

No, it would not be pushback, it would be Article 92 insubordination at the very minimum, perhaps even Article 94. This single sentence casts doubt on the entire article as it is something that only an imbecile with zero experience with the military would think possible.

I find the article extremely unlikely as making such a threat would be court-martial worthy conduct. Something that a civilian might not realize, but any commissioned officer would know.

I was the chairman of one of the committees doing the investigation. I’m not in the shoes of a special counsel. I don’t work for the Justice Department. All I can relate is what the witnesses said in the deposition and in the open hearings. And that’s no reason to call me as a witness.

    Fantastic.

That takes care of the Sec Navy!

Now the C in C should give Rear Admiral a direct order and leave it at that. We’ll then see how the dominoes fall. And especially if the Admiral decides to resigns and whether the Sec of Navy follows him, or decided to cut his loses and get his heels together and obey the C in C.

Sec of the Navy Spencer has been canned.

em>Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper asked for the resignation of Navy Secretary Richard V. Spencer on Sunday after losing confidence in him over his handling of the case of a Navy SEAL accused of war crimes in Iraq, the Pentagon said.

Spencer’s resignation came in the wake of the controversial case of Chief Petty Officer Edward Gallagher, a Navy SEAL who was accused of war crimes on a 2017 deployment. He was acquitted of murder but convicted in July of posing with the corpse of a captive.

Esper asked for Spencer’s resignation after learning that he had privately proposed to White House officials that if they did not interfere with proceedings against Gallagher, then Spencer would ensure that Gallagher was able to retire as a Navy SEAL, with his Trident insignia.

If correct then Green is ‘toast’ as well. Trump should team the incoming Sec Navy to sort out ear Add. Green as proof that he is up to the Secretary’s job. Again allow the Chain of Command to do its job, rather than just using a blunt instrument with the C in C issuing Green with a direct order.

If true then Spencer is an idiot.

Anybody even contemplating that course of action given the politicisation of the case would be expected to ask himself … “would I die in a ditch for this?”…. if the answer is no, then he should take his own wiser council and punt for the touch line and then go to lunch!

    https://www.navytimes.com/news/2019/06/04/lead-navy-prosecutor-in-seal-war-crime-case-out-over-email-spying/

The whole question of why they were after Gallagher in the first place is the one the media should be asking.

It MAY be about the Leahy Law. Basically, Green and Spencer ordered the SEALS to fight with ERG Iraqi forces. They were raping and torturing prisoners. The prisoner, desperately injured, was killed, either by Gallgher or the medic (who has confessed to it) to avoid turning him over to THAT. Green and Spencer orders were in direct violation of the Leahy Law and that’s where the cover-up is.

The Leahy Laws or Leahy amendments are U.S. human rights laws that prohibit the U.S. Department of State and Department of Defense from providing military assistance to foreign security force units that violate human rights with impunity.[1

A thing of beauty. A wooden wonder. A WWII Fighter bomber that could outrun the best that the Luftwaffer could throw at it.

4x 20mm cannon and carrying a bomb load of almost as much as a B-17 and 370mph. Precision low level bombing and photo recon. Just a pilot and a navigator bomb aimer. Used as pathfinders and for surgical bombing raids.

Built by carpenters as a make work scheme in the UK to use their skills, until they discovered that they had a magic aircraft.

    Enjoy.

This is the third totally restored Mosquito built in NZ for the US market. Currently Texas is home of all three airworthy Mosquitos in the world, built at Ardmore airfield just South of Auckland. The fourth aircraft is due to be built for the Brits for their former Mosquito Squadron the famous 633 Squadron,

    @ RIX:
It’s bad enough that Obama’s supposedly conservative. But claims that Warren and Sanders aren’t liberal to radical are outright ludicrous. ‘Universal health care’ , ‘universal education through college’ and a ‘living wage’ are the norm everywhere else, so we should follow them off the cliff too. F*ck liberty, we need ‘security’.

If the fake Indian and the lazy old man aren’t, just what would it take to BE far left? Or is there such a thing?

    @ right_wing2:

These people aren’t talking to YOU. YOU are an anachronism that will fade away and don’t even belong here in the first place. The globalist mindset is remarkably parochial when it comes to recognizing humanity’s actual diversity, especially when it’s inconveniently located so close to home. They talk to each other. Only each other.

I am alive! Baking a pineapple pizza for breakfast.

It is a beautiful Sunday morning here, I may go to church later. Well that or the Indian store to get beer.

Oh, is it Thursday? It could be, or Wednesday.

I do not know any more, all days are the same now.

Night is day and day is night.

Tomorrow I am going to get my hair cut, or maybe the day after. It is so long I could have a man bun.

Or next week, there is always a tomorrow to do something.

All my life I have dreamed and yearned for some time when I could do what I want, when I want. With no commitments and nobody to care about or worry about and no one telling me what to do.

After eight months I have had enough! I NEED stress, deadlines, commitments, a purpose in life.

Many years ago the company I worked for brought in an outside consultant to give our team a training course on motivation and team building and other bullshit. I am sure others here have gone through the same. One point they made was humans thrive under stress. However the stress level at the company/job I had was very high. So what these “consultants” were saying was a total wast of time and money. We had stress!

Example, one wedding anniversary on way home to go for a meal, ended up in Paris. ( got a call when on way home, go to Heathrow airport, flight xxxx )

Another one, was late getting home, Wife called 24/7 support center to ask where I was. They told her I was on way to Switzerland. Zurich and I was booked into a hotel there. She needed to contact me urgently and she called very many hotels in Zurich to find me. None had any record of my reservation.

To cut a long story short the job was in Basel not Zurich. When I called her from hotel she was beyond stressed.

Reason for this post. Yes, I think humans and even cats need a little bit of stress in their lives to keep them going. Cats manufacture stress by attacking imaginary enemies like toy mice and things, for practice.

    I need to go get a job………

OH NOOOOO not the dreaded Team BuildingExercise, where everyone is attempting to lead and show their managerial skills, all at the same time… type bullshit ‘team building’?……… One point they made was humans thrive under stress…… Tr ue but only under the good type of stress. (like jumping out of an airplane or canyoning a raging stream type stress. Not the bad type stress of “your job is in jeopardy unless you do this mountain of work in the shortest time possible … or even faster… type stress.

    @ eaglesoars:
Just be aware that PETA and other animal welfare type groups such as RSPCA and SPCA are attempting to tailgate the Red Poppy Day veteran support programs by instigating a Purple Poppy Day program targeting collection of funds for ALL animals killed or injured in war, and OTHER INSTANCES (unstated). The collection timing is worrying being just prior to the ANZAC Day collections in Australia and NZ and prior to Remembrance Day collections throughout the Commonwealth.

The argument is that these collections are in memory of the 40,000 horses slaughtered and left post WWI, animals killed and injured in WWII and search and detection dogs and animals killed and injured in military service in modern conflicts. A good and worthwhile c cause I hear you mutter. However the program has just passing and quizzical references to war service animals and to a suspicious individuals like me it sounds like PETA and extremist vegan groups trying to ‘coat-tail’ other charities to lift funds from their established collections regimes.

    @ Aussie Infidel:

SPCA actually does rescue animals from war zones (I sponsored one home for a soldier who found her as a pup, and got a letter and a pic!)

Here, it’s the Humane Society (along with PETA) that is a fraudulent group. They even tried to rehab the dog killer, Michael Vick. Must have been one hell of a check he wrote them. They’ve put out fraudulent animal abuse vids against farmers too

HSUS, yes. Not necessarily true of your local Humane Society, though.

That’s what confuses people (by design, I’m sure).

Until I heard what Katie Pavlich has to say about it, I’ve said there’s no way Mooch Obama runs. She hates politics, she hates the spotlight, she loves the good life.

But Katie makes a case: she has history to make. The first woman/ black woman.

    Almost convincing. Almost.
