    From USNI News:

“We’ve seen a number of potential exploits by malicious cyber actors. Kind of the easiest stuff and because everyone is super responsive and working from home – lots of phishing activity. And Especially early on, if it said COVID-19 in the subject line, you were going to open it,” Weis said.
“And really then that’s the front door and then getting somebody to click on an attachment or whatnot that you can get into somebody’s face with a COVID-themed message,” he continued. “The other is – there was an uptick in the registration of domain names that contain COVID, COVID-19, along with DOD specific variants of that, as the services rushed to push out tracking, tracing capability services, etc, for use in this teleworking environment.”

the phones are nothing more than tracking devices

Seven years after former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden blew the whistle on the mass surveillance of Americans’ telephone records, an appeals court has found the program was unlawful — and that the U.S. intelligence leaders who publicly defended it were not telling the truth.

In a ruling handed down on Wednesday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit said the warrantless telephone dragnet that secretly collected millions of Americans’ telephone records violated the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and may well have been unconstitutional.

what was the name of that PBS/Frontline documentary you ran a thread on? Something like “The United States of ???”. It was a 2 part thing, featuring an NSA whistleblower. Bill somebody.

The United States of Secrets, 2014.

Methodical and comprehensive, “Frontline’s” documentary “The United States of Secrets” offers a blow-by-blow account of the Bush administration’s embrace of potentially illegal spying/eavesdropping techniques, President Obama’s decision to continue them (despite campaign promises to the contrary) and, most compellingly, those who sought to blow the whistle on government overreach, culminating with Edward Snowden’s unprecedented dump of classified documents. If the two-part project breaks little new ground, it’s an utterly thorough primer on what transpired that almost plays like a John Le Carre thriller, with remarkably candid interviews from participants on all sides.

She’s not there, of course, and there’s a wall around her house, but damn, her neighbors are not going to like it. And what can S.F. do? They allowed other protesters to run wild through the streets without a permit, blocking traffic and setting fires. All these people are going to do is chant through a bullhorn.

Just looked it up on the CDC website this morning: Infection amount over the past 8 months (9 if you count December) is just a little over 1.8% of US population. Death rate is order way below that. That’s a pandemic? Heaven help us if something really contagious is unleashed.

It’s part of a coordinated attack to build a ‘narrative’.

The other part is a piece in the Atlantic that has Trump disparaging the military, saying he didn’t want wounded veterans at a parade “because nobody wants to see that”, that he didn’t want to visit a cemetery because they are “losers” and he lied about his copter being grounded by bad weather, he just didn’t want to make the trip.

All sources are anonymous. Nobody believes Trump feels like that about the military and FOIA records show his copter was grounded by bad weather.

The narrative being built is that Trump hates the military therefore it’s justified the military remove him from office

The WaPo sources representing the Trump side are ALL never-Trumpers, from Bill Kristol on down.

They are now at the stage of whole-cloth fabrication, so all I can think is that the internals are horrifying.

The author went to court claiming the apology defamed her.

She just lost. Guess who it is?

NINA BURLEIGH!!! Good ole Knee-pad Nina gets it in the throat!

    AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

    Talk about your volatile markets…

The tankers, which can haul 2 million barrels of oil across the world’s oceans, are now earning just $6,103 a day on the benchmark route from the Middle East to China, Baltic Exchange data show. That’s the lowest since May 2018. Back in March, they could make $250,000 a day on the same journey.

Queensland-based constitutional law expert James Allan switches to full auto in the last paras:

What has happened to all the many, many advocates for ‘human rights’ and for ‘bills of rights’? Where are the cries from those who – when it comes to, say, supposed refugees piled into boats trying to sneak in illegally or in regard to anything to do with sexual freedom – like to paint themselves as champions of the individual and of choice and of rights and of freedom? Where are they now? Because most of them seem pretty silent to me, if not cheerleading the heavy-handedness. Where are the supposed libertarians in the Liberal party room, the Tim Wilsons and James Patersons? I don’t hear them speaking up for the Swedish approach, do you? Meanwhile lots of right on, lefty virtue-signallers seem more than content to jump on the ‘freedom ignoring, citizen distrusting, top-down dictating, Big Government’ express train. The retired British Supreme Court Justice Lord Sumption says we are right now living through what is, without doubt, the greatest, most extensive government attacks on our civil liberties and freedoms of any time in the democratic history of our countries. He’s right.

And this when, if the politicians had refrained from indulging in their pale imitation of East Germany, then 99.95 percent of us would have survived the virus. (That’s what the data from Sweden tells us, full stop.) More, in fact, would have survived if our government had just focused on the frail and those in aged-care and left everyone else to their own devices. Trusted them. You know, the way a democracy is supposed to work.

As you may have inferred by now I’ve reached the stage of total disgust with our politicians. Indeed I have much the same attitude to the many Australians who are content to be ordered around, locked up, shut in, told what to do, and afraid of their own shadows.

In a democracy you get what you deserve. Next election we will all have a chance to pass judgement on this fiasco. I, for one, can’t wait.

    https://quadrant.org.au/opinion/qed/2020/08/i-didnt-vote-for-tyranny-did-you/

Attached, several pages from a book on the ordeal that many people in China faced during the Cultural Revolution.

These pages deal with the public humiliation, torture and struggle sessions these supposed enemies of the people were put through by all those Red Guards and others who had bought into Mao’s dictatorial fantasies.

Are we closer to this happening than we were say five years ago?

    Most definitely.

    SEND MONEY!!

    B. to his venerable master A., greeting This is to inform you that I am studying at Oxford with the greatest diligence, but the matter of money stands greatly in the way of my promotion, as it is now two months since I spent the last of what you sent me. The city is expensive and makes many demands; I have to rent lodgings, buy necessaries, and provide for many other things which I cannot now specify. Wherefore I respectfully beg your paternity that by the promptings of divine pity you may assist me, so that I may be able to complete what I have well begun. Excellent piece on this latest hit attempt on Trump

Quite aside from this specific story about whether Trump loves The Troops, conflating the crucial journalistic concept of “confirmation” with “hearing the same idle gossip” or “unproven assertions” is a huge disservice. It is an instrument of propaganda, not reporting. And its use has repeatedly deceived rather than informed the public. Anyone who doubts that should review how it is that MSNBC and CBS both claimed to have “confirmed” a CNN report which turned out to be ludicrously and laughably false. Clearly, the term “confirmation” has lost its meaning in journalism.

@ Aussie InfidelIts a failure of government. I was listening to the Scott Adams periscope he was saying the main factors in Covid deaths are obesity rate of the country, median age, percentage of black Africans. US is at 36 percent obesity with some 40 million black Africans. Japan is 4 percent obese. China 6 percent.

I think the point is politicians across the planet are focusing on superficial looks at the virus. Which help no one. In the US, one could just remove high Fructose Corn Syrup from the diet and the morbidity outcome would be improved over time. No national mask mandate needed.

Looks like the Kentucky Derby went woke. This is from someone on instapundit who watched it

We watch the turf race and no issues. Then the Derby pre-race starts and during the pre race track walk they interviewed the owner of ‘Tis the Law, the favorite. He’s an African American and right straight to supporting the protesters and BLM.
    .
    .
But no, Churchill Downs had to add a commentary on the “Anti-slavery movements and abolitionist movements” in Kentucky before singing My Old Kentucky Home. Really?

Karma is a bitch, ‘Tis the Law” did not win the Derby.

Allegheny Ludlum stainless steel cars sell for $950K at auto auction

A trio of stainless steel cars produced by Ford and Allegheny Ludlum sold at auction for $950,000.

Billed as “The Historic Stainless Steel Trifecta” and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, the cars were sold Saturday night as a single lot by Worldwide Auctioneers at the 13th annual Auburn Auction.

They were offered for sale without a minimum price.

The buyer’s identity was not known.

The lot included one of each example produced by Ford and Allegheny Ludlum, predecessor of today’s Allegheny Technologies Inc.: a 1936 touring sedan, a 1960 Thunderbird, and a 1967 Lincoln Continental convertible.

The three are among a total of 11 ever made — six of the 1936, two Thunderbirds and three Lincolns.
