As the free peoples begin to see the corrupted elites in all of their decadence and imperiousness, these same elites are becoming increasingly despised by the common man. With the information revolution every and any person can gain access to the true state of affairs, with the imperfections and corrupting influences of the elites exposed. The elites have responded to this public pressure with knee jerk defensiveness and contempt. Rather than preventing further attacks from the populous this has only made the public even more hostile and defiant towards authority. This defiance is however unguided and unplanned and risks a fall into nihilism. Unless the old order, built upon the institutional corruption and self serving elites, is not replaced by something new and better, the outcome could lead to strife and chaos.
In those regimes where the elites are digging in for the final push towards the New World Order, their captive peoples will be pushed towards open revolt, which will trigger a massive new repression. Not a hard physical repression but a soft dominating suffocating repression where political revolt is crushed by a new technologically empowered all seeing State. As the elites push for more centralised power, often by using the coercive powers of State sanctioned Health Mandates, the public will seek more localised control, and will seek from the elites some ceding of centralised power to local authorities.
The current drift within the ranks of the elites towards authoritarianism will only spark more extreme outcomes from the general public. Currently the long suffering public remain quiescent, but the elites risk all if they believe that they can forever keep the common man in this ‘box’. The longer this quid pro quo settlement takes to work through the more chance there is of an extreme outcome that risks the very foundations of the State.

I have found out that he’s got some association with a company called Memphis Meat, which I think is fake meat.
So, do you have good pain meds?
I get Gate’s emails and sometimes read his blog. He’s got a new book coming out “How to Avoid a Climate Disaster”. I like to read him because it’s good to know how he thinks. I’ll quote a bit from his most recent because he has a point.
I’ve written about the Green Premiums on this blog before. The term refers to the difference in cost between a product that involves emitting carbon and an alternative that doesn’t. For example, the current average price of jet fuel is $2.22 per gallon. If an airline wanted to swap that out for a zero-carbon advanced biofuel alternative, you’d have to pay $5.35 per gallon—a whopping 140 percent increase. That difference is the Green Premium for gasoline.
Green Premiums let us see which zero-carbon solutions we should deploy now—like solar power, which has a low premium in some places—and where we should pursue breakthroughs because the clean alternatives aren’t cheap enough. The bigger the Green Premium is for a particular product, the more expensive it will be to eliminate that product’s emissions—and the harder it will be to accomplish. Lowering these premiums is the only way to zero out emissions without making things significantly more expensive.
The one thing I hope people take away from my climate book

I don’t ‘like’ Marjorie Taylor Green’s personal history. She’s probably not someone I could be friends with. She’s probably a whack job.
But her policy issues are dead on. And as far as I know, she has never used her influence to harm people who it would politically benefit her to harm.
As opposed to the Vice President of the U.S. whose personal conduct is just as distasteful but who went out of her way to incarcerate people who didn’t deserve it and who used her position to bludgeon whoever was on the political outs. Not to mention parents of truant children.
A comment on Instapundit
I live in southern Colorado but all of my relatives (including in-laws) live in Texas. My family lives in the Houston area…my elderly mother, my brother and my sister. All of them lost electric power today. My sister’s power was the last to go, about three hours ago.
They are facing 36 hours of no power as they are part of a rolling blackout. My sister has a fireplace but almost no firewood on hand. There is no place to buy firewood because all of the stores are closed. The stores are closed because there is no power. So, if you wanted to go buy lumber (to burn) at Home Depot you can’t because they are not open. My sister said that most of her friends are planning on sleeping in the idling cars overnight in order to stay warm. There will be carbon monoxide deaths from this practice…an exhaust pipe crack or a muffler with a hole in it will kill occupants in an idling car.
My brother’s family also has a fireplace but little to no firewood on hand. My mother lives in an independent living facility in Houston. She is trapped in her unit because she has limited mobility and the elevators are not working.
But even if they could get out the roads are like an ice skating rink…solid ice. And there is no place to go. Prior to the power being shut off the grocery stores went empty because the trucks can’t get in due to the ice.
They are expected to be experiencing this “event” in Houston for the next three days.
My in-laws are in a rural community in Texas. The story there is much the same except that in addition to losing electricity they have no water. The water company has shut down service because of an overwhelming number of broken pipes in the area.
I was in Texas last week visiting a property that I own. My wife and I saw the forecast and made the (correct) decision to get out before this disaster hit. We left on Friday at noon. We immediately got caught in a massive traffic jam on Interstate 10 west of San Antonio. Tractor trailer trucks could not drive up the steep inclines due to the ice. It took us three and a half hours to get out of the right lane, move to the left and then drive down the median to find a break in the fence so that we could drive back the way we came. If not for four-wheel-drive we would not have made it. The trip back to southern Colorado usually takes about 15 hours of drive time. This time it took three days. We got back on Sunday afternoon. Our top speed on ice covered roads was about 30mph for much of Friday night and Saturday morning. We witnessed several ice-caused traffic collisions and several instances of downed power lines.
This is a demonstrably worse disaster than the last hurricane to hit Houston

It’s a critical part of the ecosystem.
The first time I snorkeled I nearly drowned from laughing. There I was, in the magnificent Caribbean seeing all the fish and the water was blue and warm – and then – they all started pooping. I never realized that it had to happen and be part of the ecosystem. There they were, the most colorful fish on the planet, just dumping. They never show that on NatGeo.
I think somebody should change the subject. I’m taking the coward’s way out and going to bed.

@ eaglesoars:
I also live in a rural community in SE Texas, lost power at 9pm last night, didn’t get it back until around noon today. Luckily the water never was shut off so I was able to save my pipes, so far. I was able to trickle water from all the faucets, loosened the connection to the toilet and put a big pan under it to catch the water. The kitchen sink and bathtub had a thick layer of ice in them, the toilet catch pan had slush and ice from about 4 AM on. I tried to flush the toilet every hour but fell asleep for a couple hours, woke up, checked the toilet and it had stopped dripping, loosened the connection a bit more and flushed. The toilet is at the end of the cold water pipe. My old Aladdin kerosene heater and Cali King orthopedic water bed with thick padded cover saved my butt last night. It was cold enough to see my breath 20 feet from the heater.

Yeah, I’m not suicidal, earned my spurs from my grandfather when I was 14. Still have the spurs, they’re nickel made in the late 1800’s, the buttons are Mexican Centavos dated 1868. His cattle were originally longhorns, bred with Brahma bulls to deal with the gulf coast mosquitoes. They were mean with needle sharp horns, the real aggressive ones we ran into a chute and clipped the ends of the horns to keep them from hurting the horses. The cowboys had to be quick enough to get out of the way. Roundups and branding were a spectacle. The first time my dad gave me a beer was when I was about 16, a steer was stuck in a bog and had hurt itself. He put a loop around its horns and pulled it out with his horse. I was on foot to hold it down so it wouldn’t injure itself when he pulled it out. The damn thing jumped up and rushed me head on, I grabbed it by the horns and twisted it down. Scared shitless, pure survival instinct and dumb luck… We loaded it in the back of his pickup, I sat on it, holding it by the nostrils and tail to keep it still. On the way to a pasture closer to home, so he could treat its injuries, he decided to stop at a friends house for a drink. He went in, a few minutes later came out and handed me a beer, turned around and went back inside, didn’t say a word to me, about an hour later we brought the steer to the farm. A couple weeks later Homer (the friend) told me what happened inside. He went in mixed a scotch and soda, visited for a couple minutes then grabbed a beer and started outside. My mom was already there as they had previously planned to spend the evening visiting, she asked my dad where he was going with the beer. He said it was for me, she said I wasn’t old enough to drink, his response was, “anyone who can throw a steer like that earned it”.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-02-16/frozen-wind-farms-were-just-a-small-piece-of-texas-s-power-woes
@ Guggi:
That article is behind a paywall, but here’s another that quotes the main idea and is a bit more comprehensive
https://www.centerforsecuritypolicy.org/2021/02/17/texas-blackouts-highlight-costs-of-ignoring-resilience/
market failures lead to grid failures:
“For generator operators, the rational economic calculation can be to collect payments for “reliable capacity” and to simply pay penalties for the rare occasions where capacity cannot be delivered as promised. … The result of these deliberate market designs is less generation capacity that is resilient to short-term disruptions in supply— such as nuclear, coal-fired, hydroelectric, petroleum-fired, and gas-fired dual-fuel—and more capacity that causes risk of long-term, large-scale blackouts—such as electricity imported on long transmission lines and also gas-fired generation entirely dependent on the unreliable flow of gas from pipelines with single points of failure.”
Translation: there are immense market pressures for grid operators to move to “environmentally friendly” power generation and “just in time” capacity and away from resilient sources of base-load power.
Supposedly we’re in the low 30s right now but it feels like it’s around 10. Bloody freezing.

Yeah, that’s on my NOPE list! sheesh. Bunk is right, that’s a great story.
Do you use a particular type of horse for that work? I’m assuming you’re not using Arabians. Quarter horses? (If I sound like I know what I’m talking about, do not be deceived – I’ve never met a horse I haven’t fallen off from. Well, one, Molly, but it’s not because she didn’t give it her best.)
@ eaglesoars:
Hi, eagle,
here is more information
https://www.texastribune.org/2021/02/16/texas-wind-turbines-frozen/
@ Guggi:
Hi ya! Are you warm?
This sounds like they just didn’t prepare for the once-in-100-year catastrophe. The problem with that thinking is that those catastrophes actually happen about once every 20 years or so. Also, their predictive models suck.
@ eaglesoars:
{{eagle}}, here everything is fine, the weather has warmed up and no supply problems. But although it was pretty cold for some days we didn’t have a winter storm.
@ Guggi:
We’re due for an ice storm starting after midnight tonite, going well into Thurs. You just KNOW the grocery stores are going to be brutal.
Have you heard about this yet?
JUST IN – Letter bomb explodes at Lidl’s head offices in Germany. Casualties rushed to hospital, building evacuated.

I need food. BRB
@ eaglesoars:
I’ve no extra information for you about the Lidl bombing – maybe related to the bombing of the “Capri Sun” producer ADM Wild yesterday
Oh no. Rush has died. Catherine is announcing it now. This morning.

I was unaware of that.
Well, I’d best get to the store. If I stay here I’ll just cry.
Take care, Guggi, we’ll chat more later.

damn
@ eaglesoars:
He was diagnosed terminal in October?
I missed that one.
I’ll miss Rush, too.
@ Bunk X:
No, he was diagnosed at the beginning of 2020.
He’s not replaceable.
eaglesoars wrote:
Nope. He will be missed. On the positive side, he will no longer be witnessing the destruction of this country that he loved
@ AZfederalist:
Well, I prefer to think he’s just in a better position to do something about it.
He pretty much raised an entire generation via Andrew Breitbart. Orson Bean gave him one of Rush’s books to read, then he started listening and he became seriously converted. And how many people did Andrew ‘discover’? Dana Loesch, Ben Shapiro, Larry O’Conner, Greg Gutfield, Bannon, just off the top of my head.
All because Orson Bean said “If you want to date my daughter, you have to read this book”. HA!
I’m not sure how this started, but apparently Facebook just canceled all of Australia news outlets.
Washington DC has become Baghdad on the Potomac
I got stopped by armed soldiers for using my phone near the razor-wire steel barricades on the way to my car after work today and when I got home the President was on TV telling me we all must understand Chinese cultural norms

Just as long as they are consistent. They can cancel The Australian, The Sydney Telegraph, The Herald-Sun and all of the conservative magazines. Just as long as they also cancel the rabid Fairfax press’ Sydney Morning Herald, The Melbourne Age, The fascist left The Drum and not forgetting the Australian Broadcasting Commission’ Ultimo communist ‘collective’. A fascist leftwing collective sucking on the teat of the Australian tax payers.
This is all about the cancel culture battle going on in Oz. Twitter and FB threatened the Australian Government and the Australian Prime Minister DIDN’T blink…… Twitter and FB did. Microsoft seeing monetary advantage jumped in and offered its services in place of Twitter and FB …. hence the backdown by these two IT bullies.
I guess this is round #2.
A first world nation State with 25 million population will ALWAYS beat a common company no matter how large it is or how powerful it thinks it is. How many trained assassins does Zuckerberg have and can he call on a regiment of special forces to annihilate an enemy IT company? Nah!
Didn’t think so.

I can just imagine the celebrations on the left too.
Well I won’t shed any tears over the loss of some on the left, there’s only one person who’s passing I will celebrate, and that’s George Soros.

They actually do have predictive models????

Spit on your palm smack your hands together and watch where the spit ends up….. now THAT is predictive modelling.

About a fortnight ago FB and Twitter threatened the Australian government because Australia was enacting charges on FB and Twitter for acting as information carriers.
They threatened to ‘pickup their marbles and go home’ Morrison said be my guest arseholes or word to that effect. Microsoft immediately jumped i and offered Australia alternative services .
FB and Twitter did a shamefaced 180 degree about turn.
Now they are trying it on again… They WILL fail again and if they are nor careful they will be BANNED from Oz cyberspace.

Well, my rant for the day: Just tried installing my H&R Block 2020 Tax Software. It first threw an exception because it could not create the needed Share directory in the Mac share volume. I was able to fix that by pulling up a terminal window, using sudo to create the directory myself, change the owner and the permissions so that the software would install. I can’t be the first person to have that problem. Then, after getting it to run, it claims I have the Deluxe version and would I like to upgrade to Premium? I bought Premium and paid for it back in October. The email with the license code says I bought Premium. Tried both Chat and Telephone support — Digital Assistants suck canal water! Big time. The Block phone assistant is really annoying — they actually have keyboard sound effects after you give an answer as if a human is actually typing in your response. When I asked to speak to a human, I get transferred, told the wait times won’t allow me to talk to anyone, “thanks, goodbye /click”.
I’m about to change to Intuit, despite the fact that I swore off of them years ago.
/rant off

Good on Australia. We should have done the same. Because of their censorship actions, they are information carriers, not platforms.

Taffy belonged to Mr. Edwards up the lane. He owned the last stable in the Denison Street’s parallel lane….. as all of the rest had been converted to garages. This was Bondi Junction in Sydney 1949. I was 3. To ride Taffy, who was rather rotund for a pony, my legs stretched out sideways doing the splits. Mr. Edwards used to take Taffy… and me aboard ….. for walks in Centennial park down by the ponds at the end of Denison Street.
Even though I was only 3 I can still remember being aboard Taffy.

Molly had been in racing in her previous life. She loved to run, she loved to race. Another riding group galloped past us and she took off like a bat out of hell. This was on Mackinac Island, where no cars are allowed. Molly headed for the main pedestrian area and she was going to jump over all the ladies with baby carriages.
I stood up in the stirrups and pulled on those reins as hard as I could. I put that horse on her haunches. The guide who had been trying to catch us finally caught up and used her horse to block. I just slid off the back of Molly and laid on the ground in a heap. I couldn’t walk for 3 days. Hubby thought it was hilarious. I almost divorced him.
Last time I get on a horse.
@ eaglesoars:
I was flying DC-8 -63s Cargo aircraft very regularly out of Welington (bottom of the North Island – The Capital of NZ) We based out of a hotel in central Wellington. Mostly we were flying up to 40 race horses into Sydney and Melbourne, just before they raced to prevent them getting a case of the ‘jipps’ on different water and feed.
On days off I’d head up the Ohuria Valley on the electric train to Ohuria where there were a lot of horse farms. I used to ride a huge 17 hands tall Hannovarion gelding called Jupiter. He was a real gentleman but he had a hard mouth and you had to show him who was boss before settling down. We would practice dressage in the sand ring for ages and even go over a few jumps.
Good times.

Anybody watching Tucker? Remember General Honore from Katrina who gave us ‘stuck on stupid’?
He’s retired now and Nancy Pelosi has picked him to conduct her ‘security review’.
Guess what? He’s an insane partisan who said josh hawley is a little shit who should be run out of D.C., the Capitol Police are complicit, 40% of them are ‘Trumpsters’, and on and on and on. Apparently he’s on twitter so I’ll have to check.
@ eaglesoars:
Why else would Pelosi have hired him?
I don’t know where this pic is from but look at the text – no 2A rights at 1A protests. Constitutional scholar, this guy

COVID-19 In Pennsylvania: Incentive Program Offers Inmates $25 To Get Vaccinated Against Coronavirus
The state’s correctional employees say it’s “ludicrous” they’ll have to wait to get the vaccine after the inmates while advocates say it’s important to reduce the spread of the deadly virus in congregant settings.

I think this is Virginia, but not sure – anyway the priorities will be schools – which are closed – and the homeless – who hardly mix in with the population at large. I mean – haven’t run into any in Safeway.
Wife: You go get groceries next time the checkout clerk was a total bitch.
Husband: Oh so you went through the self service scanners again?
@ Deplorable Bumr50:
I’m ok if they test further on inmates.

At 17 hands he was a very big animal but as long as he knew that you were the boss he was as gentle as a lamb. He couldn’t help it if he had a hard mouth. He just wanted to get moving to shake the folds out 🙂
W wonderful horse and as I said a real gentle giant. Hanofarians were almost like half draughts in stature with a good ‘grasp of the ground… 🙂 … but were much finer muscled and moved wonderfully and made the rider look a hell of a lot better than I really was!
He would have been a great cavalry mount. A true war-horse

I’m hearing it’s health care workers and people over 75 here among the local health systems. CW would know more.
Oh, and prisoners apparently.
(To be fair, our “jail” in Allegheny County is technically a prison, as it houses sentenced inmates. It underwent a change in designation a while back in that regard.)

there is some underlying angst there!
@ lobo91:
there are some turbines up on top of the mountain here by altoona. its actually a good place for them as the winds are pretty predictable and strong enough to drive them.
these are backed up by several nuclear stations, gas turbines, and coal to cover base load and handle spikes.
